Celebrated Chef David Burke unveils David Burke Fishtail, a new innovative seafood concept on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Located in a historic townhouse, the bi-level eatery combines casual late-night dining with an extensive raw bar in the ground floor bar with traditional sit-down service in the main second floor dining room. Fishtail offers the freshest fare – provided by Litchfield Farms as well as their own company-owned fishing boat out of Brielle, NJ. Known for its sustainable seafood, Litchfield Farms compliments Burke’s & Hara’s beliefs in providing diners with the highest quality ingredients that do not compromise on integrity. Together, they have created a menu of 85 percent sustainable seafood which is coded with levels of authenticity for guests’ reference. The 120 seat restaurant is located at 135 East 62nd St. between Park & Lexington Aves.
"What an excellent restaurant all around! The food was amazing, beautifully prepared and presented , delicious flavors as well! My Mom and I thoroughly enjoyed all of our selections which included a grilled shrimp Caesar, an appetizer portion of the special pasta for the evening, and a beautiful amuse courtesy of Chef Ed Cotton, clams with duck sausage and shrimp toast. Our main courses were perfect, and the desserts were phenomenal as well. We enjoyed our wait staff, they were very attentive and fielded our questions regarding spicy ness and portion size like pros. We will go back, and we highly recommend!"

"If you like seafood, this is the place to go. We went for restaurant week. One glance at the menu and we knew we'd love the food. And yet we underestimated just how subtle, nuanced and flavorful each item would be. Would give 6 stars on the food if I could. I had read from the other reviews to expect brusque service during restaurant week, so we had braced ourselves for this. But again proved entirely wrong, every single person we interacted with, from the bartender to the host to the waiter and guys who topped up our water etc all offered an impeccable experience. Ambience is nice, modern, low lighting, divided into a few separate rooms aether than a single large room, which helps build a feeling of intimacy. Overall, one of our best city"

"We had been here multiple times before, and the food was always delicious. This time, nothing we had was delicious, even down to the raw oysters. We were so disappointed. The tuna was fishy and bland. The mussels were over spiced and lacked sauce. Et cetera. We are very unlikely to go back."

"My wife had the fish tartare taco sampler which she described as bland. I started with one of the nightly specials - a crab risotto with truffles - that was terribly over-salted. I had the whole Branzino which was good, but not properly fileted. My wife liked her trout almondine. We also ordered a lobster mac - but can't tell you how it was because it never came. The waiter never came to find out how our dinner was, so we had no chance to try to correct the problem - by the time we saw a live server, we were 2/3 of the way through our meal and had given up on the lobster mac. Dessert was an apple tart which was generally tasteless. We did make friends with the nice couple next to us - they sent their overcooked Angry Lobster back."

"Whenever we are in NYC we try and include this restaurant on our itinerary because it is always a good experience. My husband enjoyed the tuna this time. The salmon was good but I really wished I had ordered the crabcakes. I have gotten them before and they are outstanding. I did not particularly care for the salmon served on penne pasta. I just made a bad decision on my entree for my taste, but the overall experience was good as always."

"Fishtail is one if my favorite. The food is prepared in a tasteful way without over flavoring. The service is impeccable with the service staff and Maitre d' checking numerous times to see if anything was needed. The corn bread at the beginning of the meal gets the pallet ready for the delicious food which follows. The townhouse setting makes it a perfect place for a quite romantic dinner"

"A seafood lover's paradise. The sunday $45 prix fixe is a great deal as there are about 4 lobster entrees on the menu. The cheesecake bubblegum lollipops are overrated."

"The ambiance was great but the attention to detail in the service and food was disappointing. I mentioned in my reservation that I was recommended here by my chef (for I'm in the industry) & celebrating our wedding anniversary but there was no mention of either. We noticed the Maitre'd visiting some of the tables around us, but never ours. The server was busy filleting another table's meal when we sat & it took him a while to greet us, let alone bring us water & bread. My steak was tender but definitely not MR as ordered & my husband's stuffed lobster was overcooked, but we were too hungry to compain. They'd run out of the chocolate cake we both wanted, & they did the right thing by substituting to the brownie. Thanks!"

"The food was carefully prepared, fresh, and wonderfully seasoned. Their seafood was some of the best I've had... Crisp shrimp cocktail, incredible "crab cake" and crab salad, scallops seared and perfectly prepared, and tasty sauces to accompany many dishes. Their signature dessert, lollipop cheesecake tree with bubble gum whipped cream, was creamy with crunchy toppings and a fun way to end a perfect meal. The wait staff was attentive and professional. I definitely will return!Reservations are a must and an early reservation will help avoid the crowds!"

"1. The bartender recommended two appitizers....the crab cake and the lobster dumplings. Each was delicious. It was all downhill from there. 2. The waiter talked Janet Turco out of the salmon dish and into the flounder special (not a cool move). The flounder was dry. Our guest ordered the flounder special and also found the fish dry. 3. I ordered the tuna entree. The fish was cooked through, although the waiter and I discussed preparation to be rare. The dish was not good.
With an 0-3 entree, out rating is poor.

"Very nice experience overall - the raw seafood, ambience and service were all terrific - but most of the plates in our four course prix fixe meal felt overly complex and ambitious. The pretzels and dressing crusting the crab cake obscured the light taste of the crab, and the scallops, while fresh, were overly salted in the sauce. The lobster dumpling in the surf and turf did all the work, while the filet was just along for the ride. The butterscotch panna cotta was bullied by a thick layer of curried gelatin, but was magnificent once it was extracted without the goo. We'll go again because the ambience was nice, but will stick with a simpler menu: martinis, a seafood tower and a crisp salad."

"They gave us a small private room when one was not requested. We were just 3 people and wanted to be seated in the open main dining room. We waited for 45min-1hr. before a table was available by the bar. We took it. The service that followed was fair. We waited for our food a long time. No bread was offered. Main courses were bare bones. Nothing accompanying the dish. The food mediocre. Not a place that I would return to or recommend."

"I'm certain there are better restaurants than David Burke's Fishtail in Manhattan. This past saturday night, my wife and I didn't need one. Served the seafood 4 course pre-fixe for 2, we basked in delight! First course, shellfish on ice; sweet bluepoint oysters, shrimp, and a mound of crabmeat (dungeness?). Second; a "crab cake" wrapped in thin pretzel sticks made to look like a sushi roll in it's mat. As much fun to look at and play with as it was to eat. Mine was fluke crudo; a carpaccio of thinly sliced raw fish, radishes, blood carrots, and herbs. My norwegian blood bubbled delight. Third; Cheryl,s trout transported her back to Rio 1986, broiled and accompanied by lemon butter and capers, she was close to heaven. Why go on?"

"Was not aware that the menu was somewhat limited - expected a greater selection. The food was prepared and presented very well and tasted delicious. The service was inconsistent - sometimes, the waiter was very attentive and helpful, sometimes he seemed "not to be paying much attention to us". When the main courses were served, 3 of us got our orders at the same time; it seemed the serving for the 4th member of our group took much longer to be served."

"Went here after finding a great coupon deal and boy what a awesome experience. We ate off a special preset menu so I can't speak to the regular food but the set menu was amazing! We had fluke crudo and Thai shrimp ceviche as starter, followed by really great scallops and a surf and turf door main courses. Of course we had the cheese cake lollipop tree for dessert which is a house special and worth it for the picture alone. Make sure to get a little bit of peanut brittle for the road."

"This is the second time we have eaten here and it was just as great as our first time. They really know how to prepare great fresh fish. I had the Trout with a dill sauce and it was amazing. The serving size of my fish was very nice. We will be going back to this restaurant again. Great staff too!"

"Over all, a very nice place (we were a party of five). The staff was very, very good. The side dishes (we ordered all but one) read well, but were disappointing in taste. If you stick with the fish, you'll really enjoy your meal. The non-fish entrees were just fair."

"Service was very slow and did not check back to see if we needed anything. Appetizer was delish. Crabcake with pretzel crust. Dinner was just okay. Angry lobster not easy to eat. Good flavor. Dessert took about 30 min for a piece of coconut cake but was very good. Would try it again but maybe order something different."

"Salmon crudo was delicious but left a lingering taste of salt in my mouth for nearly 20 minutes. Maybe an off night for the wait staff but I felt the time it took to get served cocktails and wine was excessive."

"We were a bit disappointed. Lived the dry roasted mussels last time- they were very spicy , new chef this time and this was not the case. The chorizo crusted cod was delish, the Angry lobster no where near as good as last time.Service, our table- all perfection, but the food did not hold up. We would go back, not for awhile.... Not happy it was not consistent."
