Dervish Mediterranean Restaurant serves authentic Mediterranean cuisine in a duplex environment, with mosaic files, warm lighting, and beautiful mahogany bars on the mezzanine level and second floor. An unforgettable Broadway theme mural adorns the wall behind the bar, shouting "The Show Must Go On!" "For anyone that truly appreciates Mediterranean cuisine, I would highly recommend dining at Dervish. The room is warm and comfortable and provides for an intimate dining experience. The selection of dishes offers diners a broad array of options so they can fully experience what the Mediterrean has to offer, from traditional mezze platters (appetizers) through main course and desserts.
Their wait staff paid close attention to every detail and offered expert advise for those unfamiliar with the cuisine.

"I would recommend the restaurant with a warning about the service. We were brought the wrong wine and one wrong entree. The restaurant personnel seemed overwhelmed that day (a Saturday). The food was good and a good value for the prix fixee price, but the service made it a somewhat frustrating experience. the air was kind of musty too."

"Everything else was fine except for the food. We had recommended fixed menu. The soup was very thin, perhaps had too much water in it. The eggplant and lamb dish was not that tasty. Four of us all felt disappointed. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone."

"Went with my wife for dinner before theater two blocks away. We ordered one 3 course dinner plus another entree with two glasses of wine. Disappointed with the grape leaves appetizer. The rice was mushy. Not terrible but not great. She had the salmon which was bland. I had the whole branzino which was nicely cooked. The accompanying vegetables were nicely done, not over cooked. Almond pudding dessert was nice. Service was pretty nice, neither hovering nor ignoring us. We arrived an hour and 40 minutes before curtain and had plenty of time to make the show."

"We went to Dervish for a quick pre-theater dinner. The place is clean, service attentive, the food is good. However, what happenned to the portion size? Turkish restaurants are known with their generous servings but this one was quite a disappointment. We, two girls who don't eat much in general, left hungry. And that after an appetizer, main course and dessert for share. Pity because it looked good on the web."

"The food was just wonderful--I would go just for the food even if the place was gross and the service bad (it wasn't!). Service was also very good. The food is really the lasting memory for me of this place because every course was just wonderful, even the Turkish red wine we got was impressive. Only thing that keeps it at 4/5 stars for Ambience was that the back room we dined in was kinda "eh...""

"everything was fine until the end when it took us 15 minutes to pay our bill though i had said more than once - again when asking for the bill that i had to be at carnegie hall at 8 - so i went to ask for it - the extremely unpleasant incompetent waiter - not ours who was excellent ho was said he had been too busy, was having difficulty finding it - told him there were two AAdvantage credit cards from Citibank - he handed me an HSBC folder with card which i recognized right away as HSBC since i have the same card - he kept on telling me that i was taking the wrong card when he handed me another one with my name on it - i tried to take it and sign and he kept on telling me that it wasn't my card - i told him my name to no avail- i signed"

"We arrived from Boston to find the staff utmost warm, welcoming and happy. Our waiter's recommendations were excellent and he was so happy it was contagious. So we drank a white Spanish albarino and had various mezze spreads-all delicious, especially the cacik and the vegetable and fish options were all very fresh and wonderful. Desserts excellent as well with Turkish coffee and teas. We will definitely return anytime and recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants basic middle eastern style food served well in a small warm atmosphere."

"I used to come here a lot when I lived in the neighborhood. It was always good. I hadn't been in years so I thought I'd go again and it was somewhat of a disappointment. The restaurant wasn't very crowed but we were taken upstairs to be seated and we were the only ones in the entire upstairs space. We asked to move downstairs and they did so, no problem. The staff was very kind as always and accommodating. The food was just okay. The one dish I used to order, Sultan's Delight, was not as good as I remember. The meat was somewhat tough and the eggplant was lukewarm at best. I didn't send it back or complain but I thought that it wasn't up to it's usual standard. Other dishes looked good. Two for one martinis were good."

"Our dinner party had a lovely time at the restauarant. The food was authentic Mediterranean, the service was attentive but did not give a rushed feel. This must be a challenge since most patrons were theater-goers who where shuttling between shows. The food could have been hotter (the temperature, not spices) but the flavor was delicious. Our waiter was so gracious and patient with our questions.

"This location is convenient for theatre goers who are attending a show east of Broadway, and I had been looking forward to the Mediterranean fare, since, as a vegetarian, I know I can always find a good selection of healthful dishes with this cuisine. However, I was disappointed with the food. Everything was bland, needed both salt and pepper. I had a lemon wedge garnish for my salad, and I had to use it to season my appetizer! Pretty setting, but I cannot recommend the food. Too bad."

"Not sure if they had too many waiters or not enough. Confusion with our order (second appetizer didn't arrive until after we had our entrees) and very slow to give us our bill (pre-theater, so important). Don't go when you're in a rush. We weren't especially, but still felt very slow. Food was good, as it always is. Convenient to Broadway theaters and reasonably priced."
