"As Aussies not always in NY it was great to see that SM hadn't lost it's magic from 3 years ago. We'd sent friends there 3 months ago and they raved so thanks for not letting us down. The only difference was the less extensive wine list which we guess was due to the more straightened times with a good match of value and special occasion wines."

"We had a guy who was waiting on us who was not very nice. A littlebit uninterested and made us feel we had to leave soon.... He recommended some dishes, which is ok, but when we did not take that dishes he looked a littlebit offended...
It's a shame we did not have better experiences with your staff, because overall the restaurant and food is good.
Although we did like a tall, blond guy (I think he was the manager), he was very kind and payed good attention to all the guests."

"Still one of my favorite spots in New York City. The food is flavorful and delicious, the service is excellent and the mood and atmosphere are very chic. It's lively even on a Monday night. Reservations are a must for this hot-spot, especially on the weekends."

"Probably one of the ten best restaurant in the City.

"The Spice Market sizzled as diners reluctantly witnessed a piquant show from a buxom scantily-clad lass who straddled and writhed atop her male companion for all to...endure. Diners were agog. My companion and I asked to move tables, twice. The waitress apologized. The maitre’d, who after pandering to the couple, finally summoned the courage to whisper in the gentleman’s ear that perhaps their behavior was less than appropriate. On the second occasion they adhered and retired to the bar. The food itself was a treat, each course tantalizing with its East Asian-influenced flavors and nice presentation. I would return but the maitre’d needs to learn to manage his restaurant and bend over backwards to those who truly truly deserve the attention"

"Greeted by a friendly host. We all loved the decor and openess of the restaurant. We decided to order several appetizers to share and glad we did because the portions were ample. The food was delicious and every dish had its own flavor. We were very happy and satisfied. Plan on taking our husbands next time. Would love to get the table downstairs surrounded by white pillows. "Yet again, another outstanding experience. We have now had every dish on the menu in a 1/2 dozen visits, and still nothing to criticize. The plate presentation, the house made infused drinks, the "by the glass" wines are all well thought. Our server Erika, as competent as she is lovely and beautiful, truly made the experience. What a DOLL! Wife and I both fell in love with her. What a Staff overall! We now go out of our way to dine at Spice Market whenever in the city."

"What a dissapointment, totally overrated and nothing more than average. As an Australian we are blessed with amazing Asian cuisine - this place is nothing short of a tourist trap or for those following the latest chef/restaurant fad. Don't bother!- there are so many better places in this great city. Also it was infruriating that all the decent timeslots were full and the place remained half emptin this from 8 to 11pm - on a Friday night!"

"More of chef Vongerichten's mastery at work. Fun drinks to start the meal with. The appetizers were the highlight of the meal to me. The crab dumplings and the lobster spring rolls were both amazingly good. Less impressed with the Halibut and the egg noodle entree. Tasty but both lacking something, We shared the Ovaltine Kulfi for dessert. It was very good but also very rich. Good for two to split. Serene ambiance and attentive service were both appreciated. "We went to Spice Market during Restaurant Week, so only sampled what was on offer on the RW menu (which we had to request). Appetizers were absolutely first-rate - the Salmon was especially noteworthy. Dessert was also excellent. Main courses, in contrast, were rather "Blah". Cocktails were good, but a bit on the weak side.

Restaurant staff is outstanding - some of the best and most attentive service we've experienced in any Manhattan restaurant. Ambience/decor is also very lovely and really adds to the dining experience.

Overall, the experience was good enough so that we will be returning in future to sample other things on the menu that sound intriguing."

"Excellent dining experience. The service was great, our waiter helped us select a variety of items as we had some dietary restrictions to deal with. Each dish was filled with flavor. The only item we were not 100% impressed with was the steak entre as it had some pieces that were very fatty. The Cod was exceptional, the pork satay appetizer very good, and the shrimp appetizer also excellent. We would definately come abck."

"We came a group of 4 for the restaurant week and tried all the dishes on that menu including a few more and all the dishes were excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive making sure the table was clean and our glasses full. The music and overall noise level may have been at the higher range of what I find comfortable for a restaurant but then again we came at 10pm and didn't leave till 2pm."

"The entrees here are extraordinary every time I go. So is the service. I have never been in a group larger than two so i haven't been able to really enjoy the "family style" dining experience the way the waiters recommend. The hardest part is trying to decide what to order because everything is so different and interesting. Highly recommend."

"We arrived at 10 pm after the Philharmonic and the Spice Market was pleasantly packed. The small dishes are delicious and great for sharing. The menu is called Thai street food and it is quite unlike Thai we have eaten before - very interesting and tasty spicing - especially the Red Curry Duck! The service was low key but excellent."

"The restaurant week menu was great. It let us try 8 different courses with a reasonably large portion. "Food and Service are top notch but I have to agree with other reviews I've read in regards to those stupid ugly clown costumes the wait staff is forced to wear. "Simply exceptional in every respect. Have dined here several times now- My wife and I are Southampton Caterers and appreciate fine dining whenever in Manhattan. Spice Market is a Comfortable, shabby chic, hip environment, with a sharp looking crowd- top 3 favorite of ours in the city. We have tried over 3/4 of the menu at this point and cannot find a single flaw in any of the dishes. Incredible combinations of exotic spices and flavors in the Beverages to Apps to Desserts. Raif and the entire staff compliment the experience- flawless, unobtrusive, confident service-very knowledgable on both menu and proper service.An Absolute stand out in an area filled with many fine restaurants. A must try. Prices- well beyond reasonable!!!!"

"First, I'll touch on Spice Market's positive attributes:
1) The interior is gorgeous. You truly feel like you've been transported elsewhere. I can only imagine what it looks like in there in the evening. Gorgeous.
2) The waitstaff was super attentive (almost to a fault).
3)There were lots of options to choose from the lunch menu.
4) The chicken samosa (+ sauce) appetizer was delicious.

Now on to the not-so-good:
1) The Bellini was delicious but had hardly any champagne in it and it cost $9+
2) The waiters should not be dressed in pajamas. Seriously, they look ridiculous in those outfits.
3) The vegetable green curry was ridiculous. Corn? Fennel? Huge chunks of carrots?
4) The sorbet packaging is RIDICULOUS. I could barely get it"

"I ate at Nobu for lunch during restaurant week. While the food was really delicate and delicious, I walked away a little hungry still, and I'm actually not a huge eater. Portions were miniscule. The ambiance is not my esthetic personally....rather bland. The service was efficient but I don't think I saw the same waiter twice. Anyone who happened to be walking by would swipe my empty plate or refill my glass but I didn't get the sense that someone was assigned to take care of me during my meal. Made tip time rather tricky as I felt I was tipping the whole village rather than one server. Overall: delicious but just ok."

"I went to Spice Market Friday evening for Restaurant Week. It was definitely the best RW menu I have had! Everything was absolutely delicious and served with beautiful presentation. All of the servers were wonderful and energetic and anticipated our every need. In particular, Alexis was great as well as the Manager Eric. He was extremely active making sure all guests were being taken care and was always present on the floor which was very refreshing to see. We will absolutely be back!"

"I had a great Saturday Lunch with my best friend! The food was exellent. I got the bento box, which was a great way to taste all the items, along with two appitizers (salmon tartar and spring rolls) The wine and completary bento box soda (fresh ginger ale) was FAB! our server (forgot his name) was very attentive! "Though its day as super trendy are over, Spice Market still hums with a vibrancy that makes being there fun. Some of the dishes were spectacular...the Tod Mon Pla and the squid appy's and the cod entree come to mind...but AVOID the skate... as a dining companion said, the tempura battered 'thing' tasted like it should have been wrapped in newspaper and served with soggy fries. Rice pudding was best I ever had...hands down!"

"Spice Market was awesome! There are no other words to describe the experience. My cousin and I ordered the sample menu. Each course was excellent and the price was just as good. I have to say the highlight of the evening was the service!! Every course was delivered by a different member of the waitstaff and they gave us the chef's recommendations on how to eat it! Superb! My hat goes off to Dave, he was most attentive to us and our glasses were NEVER empty!! Thanks Dave!"

"I have heard a lot about this place, and it was a great experience! Delicious food, amazing wine, and a great atmosphere. The only negative thing I can say about it is that our server was not as attentive as she could have been. It was very difficult to get her attention and she often let our wine glasses go empty before refilling them. She was very knowledgeable, though. I will definitely be back!"

"Our dining experience was fine...I found the restaurant week menu to be just fine...I was expecting a little more from it. The service was very good and attentive, the only odd part was when the waiter brought us our menus and took drink orders we asked about the restaurant menu, he suggested that we take a look at the slightly more expensive tasting menu, he thought that represented Spice Market's best dishes more so than the restaurant week offering. When a different waiter arrived to take our dinner order, he never followed up with the first server's suggestion, I just thought if he would have been a little more in tune with the first servers suggestion we might have gone for it and had a better foodie experience. Maybe next time."

"Been here several times, it's always great. Decor fantastic and amazing, service very good, food awesome. We were going to do the restaurant week menu but the waitress mentioned a 5 course tasting menu for only slightly more $$. It was fantastic and nicely varied, a huge amount of food we couldn't even finish. Chicken samosas, shrimp cakes, beef skewers, fish, rice, all were excellent. Ginger margaritas are a must. It's best to go earlier in the night to get a more relaxed experience, it reaches a fever pitch later on. This is a great place and I hope to visit again soon. Even thought the neighborhood is very trendly, this is a solid restaurant for people who love great food."

"They have great bento set for $24 -- don't need to wait for restaurant week! It was too much food anyway. I think I would not do the bento box next time. My bf is vegetarian and they were very accommodating with his request of changing the meat to vegetarian dishes.

I usually prefer going to hole in the walls for Asian food, but spice market didn't hold back on any of the spice. The Vietnamese coffee was to die for. Can't wait for my next visit!"

"The food was amazing, I loved the different textures and flavors.
We were celebrating our 5th year anniversary, so the ambiance was nice and romantic. They even served our dessert with a special message.... dessert was AMAZING!
However, our waiter was a bit over the top (almost intrusive during our dinner). He interupted us everytime we took a bit of food to ask us how it was, and to add his opinion to the meal (like what was his favorite, and so on ). My husband tried 2 times to give me a gift and the waiter interupted!!! And, the ginger margaritas were tasty...but $50 buck on a small pitcher...yikes....it wasn't that great!"

"Immediately as you enter your mood will shift with the atmosphere to be ready for a wonderful meal. The menu really has quite a good selection, but considering the price, go for the tasting menu to make it easy on choosing, you will be sharing anyways. The only low point was the salad, which clearly didn't measure up, but it started on a very high note with the salmon tartare and ended in the same spot with the Ovaltine Kulfi. Try the passion fruit soda, I wanted to order 10 of them. I will be back, soon!"

"Very excited to try out the spice market. Went this past Saturday and had a fantastic time. The decor and ambience was 5 star. The service from the host stand to our server was top notch. I had the black pepper shrimp over dried pineapple app-party in my mouth. Had a lovely glass of chenin blanc to match the spice of my food items. For my entree, had the sea bass-spicy, which I luv, but would not get again because there was a lot of food on the plate with the fish and cabbage. Then for dessert received a complimentary dessert from the kitchen. I am not sure exactly what it was but to receive the dessert was so kind. Overall, great experience, highly recommend."

"This is quite possibly my favorite restaurant in NY! the decor is amazing, very rustic, detailed and dim lighting made the ambiance perfect. the staff is supernice.
there is a complimentary hot towel along with these lentil chips and spicy tomato sauce.
the food is so amazing! there was a medley of flavors in everything and they all worked together in harmony. Had the chargrilled chicken in kumquat dressing and it was amazing. chicken was tender and juicy even though the top was charred.
for dessert i had the ovaltine kulfi with carmelized banana. quite possibly the best dessert i've ever had and it was so pretty too :)

All in all, GO to spice market! believe me you won't regret it!"

"Went last night and ate off restaurant week menu...It was AMAZING!!! They give you two appetizers, entree and dessert for $35, and the food was deeeeeelish! I had chicken samosas, spicy and yummy, and beef skerwers, which was sooo tender and fantastic, entree was chicken which was moist and deelish. Dessert was OFF THE CHARTS phenomenal, cooked banana with this chocolate like candy bar thing and fesh whipped cream/mousse....outrageously good!! The server did forget an extra side dish we had ordered, which was odd because he had highly recommended it. But when the food came, we did not remind him about it because we realized we had more than enough food already. It did not appear on the check, so no worries. And he was very nice and very capable, so I'm sure that if we had reminded him, it would have been no problem to get it promptly and pleasantly."

"Great food, even during Restaurant Week when some places offer a scaled-down, less appetizing menu. The tasting-menu was excellent, and the other guests in our party, who were from out-of-town, loved it. Even though Spice Market was crowded and looks cavernous, it's still intimate and you can carry on a conversation without shouting or craning to hear your table mates. I highly recommend it, IF you can get a reservation."

"This was my third visit to Spice Market and it never fails to delight me! The food is always phenominal (crab cake appitizer is just de-lish) and the staff is always so friendly and eager to help make my dining experience a great one! Very warm staff - not stuff & stuck up like some other places in Meatpacking District.

Our waiter, Nick, was spot on with his recommendations for food & drinks! (we loved the bellini's that they served). Also, I loved that it wasn't too noisey! I was able to talk with the ladies at my table without having to shout at them!

All in all a fantastic experience. I'll go back again!"
