Chef E. Michael Reidt at Area 31 delivers a dramatic menu of fresh, local seafood prepared with Global Influences for Ocean Inspired Modern American Cuisine. The name comes from the United Nations 'Fishing Area 31,' which encompasses the local waters surrounding Miami and the Florida coast. The UN is dedicated to supporting sustainable development in this region, a vision that our restaurant has embraced as well.
The menu combined with the chic ambiance created by famed designer Cheryl Rowley welcomes locals and visitors to its stunning 16th floor location for business or pleasure. Guests may dine indoors or on the expansive outdoor terrace overlooking the Miami skyline. The restaurant features an extensive list of high-end and unique wines as well as champagne thoughtfully assembled by Master Sommelier Emily Wines (of the Michelin-starred Fifth Floor Restaurant). Our Bar also showcases an innovative cocktail list from Master Mixologist Jacques Bezuidenhout.
"• Amazing food - tried the 5 coarse dinner , and it was unbelievable! I would have never thought to put foods the way the chef did together. • our waiter rob was just fantastic. Very perfessional, very attentive , extremely knowledgeable about all the different foods & the wine pairings to go along. He was a big part of our experience being so great.• The restaurant inside is beautiful.•Great View, beautiful patio. •Also, we find out that the menu changes often - LOVE that, I know that when we come again we are going to have the se experience and the same quality but with a different foods & tastes!"

"We dined there on a pleasant Miami evening and were able to sit on their outside deck. The view of downtown is great, and the setup is very conducive to fine dining. Our waiter, Hunter, was one of the most knowledgeable and accommodating servers that I have ever run across, with detailed knowledge of all dishes. That evening there was a scallop special as part of Best of the Best and it was very good."

"Moonlight over Miami River and Bay. 16 stories above the Miami street din w terrace dining & a hip bar scene, Chef Michael Reidt provides great imaginative continental fare. Braised Lamb Shoulder w Pork Belly, quite the superbly "sauced" tasty winter comfort dish, brilliant w an expensive(!)zinfindel; A broiled Paiche(sic)fish melts in your mouth. Butterscotch pudding a bit runny. A la carte is exceptional! A special $39 3 course menu for all Heat home games has choice items. Epic Hotel provides validated $13 Valet parking (long wait to get car) Perfect meal, night, attentive service by Juan Pablo and excellent location for American Airlines Arena activities--10$ cab- 17 minute walk along the park-so leave the car til after the event."

"They aim to please. One of the most courteous restaurant staffs we have ever come across. Combine that with the artistry of the Chef and the super view of Biscayne Bay from the 16th floor and you have a special dining experience. If you love fish and seafood, you will have many choices that are all perfectly prepared. I loved the ceviche which was beautifully plated instead of the usual presentation in a glass. The Covina fish with a touch of coconut milk (if I remember correctly) is not to be missed. My husband loved the starter of roasted root vegetables. The texture of the tilefish was perfectly done. They are really good at cooking the fish to the proper temperature. And we can't get enough of that fantastic view."

"Wow, wow, wow..... The food was incredible! The explosion of flavors and textures in every bite wouldn't even begin to justify this foody's culinary experience.
The pork cheek and ceviche were delightful. My wife ordered the tile fish which was cooked to perfection. My seared tuna was delectable and amazing! The chocolate dessert with bacon was unbelievable.
Our server Bobby, was awesome! He was very knowledgeable and had great recommendations. The views and scenery was just perfect for our anniversary dinner. This place is a must and a must for us to return!"

"I order a Glass Of Sauvignon blanc. They sent me a different wine ( Bordeaux ) without telling me. I'm expert of wine and I asked them "which wine is it?". The waiter "Sauvignon Sir". Only when I asked to see the bottle he told me "sorry we don't have Savignon blanc tonight". Incredible"

"Spectacular view of downtown Miami from the patio taqbles.
The foie gras torchon appetizer was the highlight. A small disk of liver atop a smear of what tasted like guava jelly infused with just a touch of hot pepper served with crisp raisin toast points. Simple yet delicious. This kind of creativity is what I expect from this chef. A decade ago he carried 'Wish' in South Beach to its pinnacle with his creativity.
Unfortunately, the rest of the dishes were largely forgettable.
As is typical for Miami, the wait staff had rather be somewhere else. Not once did a waiter top off our wine glasses.
The sommelier was very helpful and selected an excellent wine for the challenging combination of food we ordered."

"This restaurant did not meet the level of expectation of the review. The food was poor and we could not sit outside because of a loud band that was not described in the review. The parking was a nightmare and you could not give your parking ticket to the waiter but had to go downstairs and deal with the chaos"

"Good for business meal. Our waitress was new. I asked for a glass of reisling and she said, "Which Reisling?" I said I saw only one on the wine list. She reviewed the list and said, "Oh, yeah."
I then asked her to decribe the Confit Pork Belly appetizer. She said, "It was just pork." Management should not waste cusomters' time by putting a trainee waitress on the floor when she wasn't ready.
BTW the pork belly was terrific!"

"Very noisy bar scene. Waiter apologized for noise and did his best to accommodate us, but noise increased the longer we stayed. I don't have an high opinion of a restaurant that is so bar-friendly. The food was pretentious and bland at best. The waiter seemed passionate about chef's talents and spoke highly of the "flavor profile" of our dishes, but said dishes did not live up to the hype. Also the waiter kept gesturing at the food as he talked about the dishes, and his fingers got way too close to the plate. It was a turn-off ( and unprofessional )."

"Had a fun and enjoyable dinner with my husband early on Friday night. We enjoyed several smaller plates in more of a tapas style. Great food, creative menu and presentation. We told our waiter, Hunter, we were in somewhat of a hurry to get to another location, and he was more than helpful. Not only did he give us great recommendations and service, but he was efficient and courteous. We would definitely come back here again, but hopefully with more time, because the tasting menu with wine pairings looks amazing!"

"Very good food quality with much attention to detail. I went on a Friday evening (7P) and it was very busy. They attract a downtown, after work, happy our crowd, so I will definitely go back but on another week night or a Sat/Sun eve. I don't think this was the norm for service but on this particular night, with our particular server, he was a bit slow to clear plates between courses and very slow to bring the check, as well as, bring back the receipt and change after paying. Although a seafood restaurant for the most part, the pork belly confit appetizer was incredible! The scallops on a bed of whipped parsnips, infused with spinach were to die for! Other notable treats we tried were the shrimp guacamole, excellent, and the shrimp ceviche."

"Travel wise getting in & out of the Hotel is horrible! My Husband & I spent just under $200 on Dinner and although the food was good - we will not go back. I expected better service & ambiance for spending that kind of $. The place was pretty plain and we were seated very close to the bar. Noisy Bar is not closed off by a wall or anything from the tables where people are having dinner. Not only that- we had to pay '$16.00' to park and waited 40 minutes for our car! The Valet was pure chaos in their circular driveway. Getting cars in was a priority over getting cars out! The valet had cars parked all over the driveway that needed to be moved to a real parking space. That also hindered cars trying to manuver around them!"

"Don't go to Area 31 on a rainy Saturday night if you are not prepared for an eardrum shattering noise level from the lounge. If the outdoor patio were open it would have been much better. The food is better looking than it was tasting. A confusing array of elements on each plate from foams to oils to various purees resulted in a plate that had an identifiable protein but could not relate the rest of it to what was described on the menu. For the hefty tab I would have expected better in most respects. We are regular Kimpton Hotel guest and this was better than average for most hotel restaurants but not the best Kimpton Hotel restaurant we have enjoyed."

"We dined on the Terrace on Friday and the service was challenging. We were the only outside table for our waiter and he seemed to get stuck inside for long periods of time. Something happened with their internal system and it took nearly 40 minutes to get dessert. Overall food was good but this place is just to inconsistent on service."

"The atmosphere was very lively, we sat outside overlooking Miami, which was beautiful. The service was mediocre, server was not very attentive and seemed distracted. The food was a little strange, had a difficult time picking something out . What we did have was well prepared and tasty. We both agreed that it seemed like they were trying too hard to put together unique combinations. A little goes a long way! The Friday night bar seen was the place to be. Next time, we will have drinks at Area 31 and dinner elsewhere."
