DC Coast
DC Coast Restaurant is a re-birth of a classical Beaux-Arts style that has recently surfaced and surprised historians throughout the city. It offers beautiful architectural details in and around which the restaurant is designed. In keeping with what was of the Machine Age, the design approach of the owners Gus DiMillo, David Wizenberg, and Chef Jeff Tunks was to preserve the distinguishing characteristics of architectural styles of this era. As a more futuristic idealism embraces designs of today, the owners were inspired to also bring those decorative details to life.

"It was my first time and my fiancée birthday. I requested a window seat witch I received, they even topped it off with an custom menu that said happy birthday. "My daughter's and I enjoyed a great Friday evening dinner at DC Coast. We were looking for a restaurant in the area of our hotel because the weather was not cooperating for an adventure further away. DC Coast was a wonderful find.
The dining area is beautiful and the staff is well trained and knowledgeable. The menu is compact, really creative and season orientated. The ricotta and pea ravioli are not to be missed as an appetizer. Everyone was pleased with entrees taste, although one daughter felt the scallops were on the scant side. Daily souffle for dessert was fabulous! Overall, a good experience."

"Had seen the mixed reviews, so wasn't sure what to expect, especially since I have been to other Passion Food Restaurants and have been overall pleased Went for an evening dinner with family. Food was fine - well prepared with good flavor profiles, but little on the "wow" factor. Oysters were very good though. Service, however, was very erratic. Server was nice but long periods of inattention, especially poor at pacing drink orders. Long wait to order, then long wait to get drinks throughout entire time - before meal, during meal and especially at dessert. The restaurant was not busy making the service issues even more curious and annoying. Found the television behind the bar showing the baseball game out of place."

"I had read some mixed reviews about this place, but was very surprised. I went because of the proximity to my hotel. The salad was great. The stir fried oriental lobster was outstanding. "My familiy and I dined at this restaurant for Mother's Day. The entire family starting from ages 14 to 57 had a great time. "DC Coast has always been an easy go-to restaraunt for me but this visit was disappointing. First, a renovation is in order as the carpets are now giving off a musty smell. The food was okay -- just okay. Too much sauce, too much fluff. The service was spotty, pleasant but spotty. They forgot the appetizer for one of my fellow diners. We waited a very long time for service though the waiter was pleasant and helpful. This might have been an off day -- I'll give it one more go because I've been coming to this place for years. FIngers crossed for the next visit."

"Went here on Mother's Day for dinner. There were a lot of empty seats, which should be pretty telling on such a busy restaurant day. I've had really amazing meals here, but the food this time around just fell flat. The tuna tartare was excellent as always, but my softshell crab entree missed the mark. For $29, I got one softshell served over a summer salad. I was disapointed that I didn't get two crabs, but the salad seemed like an afterthought. It was tossed in a dressing that tasted like store bought italian dressing. There were also some croutons that seemed so out of place I thought they came out of a box. It's a shame, this place used to be capable of putting out some amazing stuff."

"DC Coast used to be absolutely superb but this visit was a terrible disappointment. Appetizers were acceptable; the main courses were not of the quality one used to expect from DC coast and the side dishes were very poor indeed. Service was good and, although tables are somewhat tight together in places, the ambiance was still quite good but everything was marred by the food. Prior telephone reminders and encounters were mechanical and thus somewhat harsh sounding like the respondents had become 'too big for their boots' Based on our experience this evening, we canceled a second reservation for the following evening and went elsewhere."

"A scallop dish was lick-the-plate-clean good; but our other entree, swordfish, was paired with a weird sauce that did it no good and was slightly tart in an unpleasant, off-putting way. This entree was a bit larger while the scallop serving was seriously undersized. Even worse value for the money was the oyster appetizer. Nineteen bucks for six oysters might be worth it if they were exceptionally big and tasty; these were smaller than average and did not notably deliver that oyster "down the throat" kick which is what oyster lovers live for. With inconsistent quality in the dining pleasure it delivers and little food for what it costs, you can do better than "DC Coast" for seafood in DC ."

"I have been going to DCC since it opened. The restaurant is elegant but very comfortable and welcoming. The staff are fantastic. They attend to you, but are not pushy and let you eat. Unheard of these days in an industry that "moves tables" to maintain profit.
The food is always fantastic and is naturally focused on seafood. This is a restaurant where I have taken all ages and professions and they are always happy. How many restaurants can reach that bar?"

"Every year our group has always had dinner at DC Coast . This time we were very disappointed in the service( friendly) but very absent. Also service was extremely slow. We loved having extra time to talk but just a bit too long.
I am willing to come back but others in the group have asked to look elsewhere next year"

"Service was outstanding and though we were there a long time, we were not rushed at all. We were a party of three and two of the three meals were outstanding...and the other was very good too but a bit undercooked (based on the chef recommendation. All-in-all though it was a very good dining experience. We've been there four times over the last five years or so and it's always been very enjoyable."

"Our first visit to DC Coast will probably be our last because of the uneven food. Among the appetizers, the crispy octopus received high marks, the scallops were good, and the signature tuna tartare with coconut milk was savory, so savory that one could not taste the coconut milk. Among the mains, the frogmore stew was the standout with a delicious broth and a generous variety of shellfish. The salmon was good, although the portion was skimpy. The signature smoked lobster was a disappointment—tough and seriously overpriced. The high-ceilinged room is very attractive, but the noise level prevented easy conversation. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, but service was slow. The bus boy left water glasses unfilled for a long time."

"Great cocktails....liked Tito vodka. Food was fantastic as usual....had the diver scallops on a ham emulsion with finely diced cubes of roasted sweet potato.....wish you could bring back two wonderful dishes from the past....diver scallops on fresh pea risotto and beef on top of grits surrounded by beet puree (looks like sunrise around the plate). Have only had one little bad experience. Did not care for the brussels sprouts during the visit before last....way undercooked...no hint of apple. Wish I could take some cooking lessons at your restaurant. Would love to learn how to sear scallops perfectly. If you ever decide to do it, please contact me. I always highly recommend DC Coast to everyone....I keep coming back again and again."

"With so many dining choices in Washington, DC, and a visit that only is 3 days, it is hard to know what restaurant to choose for a Saturday night dinner. We chose wisely this time! D.C. Coast was both elegant and comfortable - a combination that is hard to find. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the ambiance was perfect. The rockfish and swordfish selections were outstanding. The scallops were prepared perfectly, and the crab cakes delicious. Although too full from eating all on our plates, we indulged in desserts - yummmm!"

"The service was impeccable. The food was great. The crab cakes were full of crab meat and fell apart under the slightest pressure from a fork. It seemed like there was no breading holding the crab cake together. The NY Strip was tender and flavorful. Loved the sweet potato gnocchi. I suggest it for special occasions because, even after one visit, I trust that my dining experience is good hands here."
