Mia Francesca
Mia Francesca features the zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. It was one of the first restaurants in Chicago to encourage the lively art of dining with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, simple, rustic cooking, friendly service and fair prices. The space, originally a candy store, was renovated in 1992 with painstaking attention devoted to preserving as many of the original fixtures as possible. Sleek lines are softened by warm woods; the well-lit dining rooms reflect the animation of the diners; striking black and white photographs of rural Italian life by
Paul Elledge line the walls to create a comfortable, decidedly urban setting. Waiting for a table at the beautiful antique bar is part of the charm of Mia Francesca. The plush upstairs dining room can be reserved for private events, as can the more intimate coachhouse tucked away behind the restaurant.

"We've always enjoyed the Mia Francesca chain, but this was the first time we visited the one in Wrigleyville. My wife and I both agreed the food was better there than in the other "Mias." Our waiter knew the menu well, made a couple of suggestions and gave us plenty of time to consider our orders. The food was served hot, nicely presented and served promptly but not rushed. Portions were more than ample, quite a change(especially in pasta dishes) from the trend to shallow plates, small servings and heavy prices. Noise level was insane, as could be expected on a Saturday night. Next time, we may try the outdoor terrace. Highly recommended."

"The food was amazing, I when their with some friends for my birthday and everyone loved their food. The only thing was that I made a reservation for 7:30, we arrived on time and our table wasn't ready yet, we waited for another 15 minutes before we were seated.
The restaurant on clark has 2 floors, the lower level was very loud, the 2nd level were we were sat, was very nice to have a conversation. The service was great, the plates are large portions. My friend and I split a pasta plate and we still had left overs.
I would differently come back to this place again!!!"

"I have to say that for all the times I have been here, I was very disappointed in the service this time. I had requested a table by the window for our party and when we arrived there were window seats available but we were put in the middle of the room at an awkward table (table was meant for 4 but they put 5 of us there). It was not that crowded and they very easily could have sat us at a bigger table. The server was very non-attentive and I had to ask for bread, cheese and an additional drink menu (as they only provided one for the whole table). My order was made incorrectly (I asked for extra spicy and they made it not spicy) so I just think our server was distracted. Food was great as always, but disappointed in the service."

"The waiter was very friendly and accommodating with special requests. We had a vegan in our group so the waiter pretty much let her make up her own dish. Actually most of us requested slight changes to the menu items after the waiter insisted we make any requests we wanted. The food was great when it came and extremely large portions, but the pasta was so delicious I had to force myself to stop eating. My one complaint was that the service seemed to drop off after our entrees were cleared. We received dessert menus and made decisions on items, but it took so long for the waiter to come back to take our dessert order that we just decided to forget it and get the check instead. Maybe we'll try dessert next time, as I do plan on coming back."

"This was our first visit to Mia Francesca. The staff was friendly and attentive. We were a group of eight, with a mix of children and adults. We had tickets to see the 7:00 Blue Man Group performance and they staff was very happy to expedite our meal to allow us to get to the show on time. It is a good location to dine before the show! The appetizers and wine were good. They offered a children's menu that was perfect for pickey eaters. Most of the adults had a daily special of lobster and a sliced beef. The lobster was great, the beef was undercooked and had quite a heavy char taste. Overall, a good experience."

"We were in from out of town and got a recommendation on Mia Francesca from a local. We were seated promptly a few minutes before our reservation time. The place was alive and very crowded which made it a bit warm but that was part of the atmosphere. The food was a bit different than the southern Italian fare I'm used to but it was excellent.
The only problem were the huge portions. That is not normally a complaint I have! We split a salad and it was delicous. Our entrees could easily have served two. I just wish I could have taken the leftovers as the linguini dish I had was very tasty.
We chose this restaurant since it was close to theater we were going to (Briar Street/Blue Man Group). All in all it was a great evening."

"I picked this place since one of our party is gluten free. After some research, Mia Francesca had an extensive gluten free menu compared to other restaurants. My friend loved the calamari dish. Was very pleased they could accommodate her.
As for me, the Amatriciana was delicious. The pasta was al dente (as it should be) and just the way I liked it...like in Rome."

"The appetizers were really great. However, my date stated that the sauce on her Gnocchi was reminiscent of Spaghetti O's (She does like everyone's favorite pasta product in a can to be fair). For me the half chicken was good but uninspired. Conundrum was a fantastic wine suggestion by the waiter and the Chocolate Oreo Cheesecake was a win by anyone's standard."

"I have been going to Mia Francesca for 20 years. I love their pizza. Unfortunately, on Tuesday the pizza was the worst i have ever had there! They changed the crust. It tasted like frozen pie crust. It was horrible and very disappointing to me as I was entertaining a sibling with dinner and a Cubs game. I typically go to Mia before every Cubs game I attend. My salmon was very good as well as the Mia Francesca salad. But the pizza crust just put a damper on the whole meal."

"The Francesca restaurants used to be our go-to place for Italian but after sub-par experiences at several locations (including out last trip Mia Francesca) I think that we are crossing them off the list. The food quality is not what it used to be and the service leaves much to be desired. My fiance ordered a caesar salad that never arrived. When he asked our server to make sure that it wasn't included on the bill she didn't even ask why. Looking around it appeared that college students were running the show. If I'm going to go to a cramped, loud restaurant they need to make it worth my while by providing fabulous food and excellent service. In my opinion they expanded too fast and lost focus."

"Another great meal at Mia Francesca. It was nice to be greated by Chris at the door - the hosts and management are always so friendly. The peapod salad is a usual favorite, but I opted for the special salad of the day which included heart of palm and avocado and was not disappointed. The pasta with extra vegetables was too good and too large a portion for me to finish. If we weren't heading to theater right after dinner I would have requested a doggie bag. And, the orange mule cocktail was gigantic and very refreshing too. This place just never disappoints."

"Very good food with interesting Italian inspired brunch items. Mia's nicely spices-up eggs benedict by adding capicolla ham and parmesan cheese. Baked Uovo Florentina was served piping hot with carefully administered truffle oil (a little bit goes a long way).
The dining room was crowded, which impacted service. Three dishes were delivered to the table first, causing with a long wait for the fourth. A requested beverage was slow in delivery, and a refill on soda went missing altogether. The room is very loud, and you will leave smelling like garlic."

"We did not enjoy our time at Mia Francesca's. We got seated close to a large, loud party that was pretty distracting. On top of that, we sat right beside the stairs so every time the door below was opened, it was cold. As far as the food goes - this was the most disappointing part. My pasta was over cooked and my boyfriend's was undercooked. The calamari was very okay, but nothing I couldn't have bought from the grocery store and heated up myself. We will not be returning. Overall, we paid $70 for a meal that left us desiring quite a bit more."

"I'm still glad Mia is in Lakeview, and always enjoy my meals there. Lately, though, the food has definitely slipped and seems somewhat tired. The service remains super friendly, thoughtful and professional. And they are always willing to accommodate special requests. Because of its history, I'll give it one more chance."
