Francesca's on Taylor
Francesca's on Taylor features the zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. Chicago Magazine notes, "It brings a new kind of abbondanza to an old Italian neighborhood." It is the fourth restaurant opened by Chef Scott Harris, whose philosophy is to encourage the lively art of dining with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, good, rustic cooking, friendly service and fair prices. Anne Spiselman of Crain's Chicago Business observes: "A rolled-mesh ceiling, warm woods and geometric light fixtures give the room a rather clubby look, brightened during the day by light coming through the windows facing the street. And, Francesca's on Taylor takes reservations. "No, it does more; it honors reservations. Twice I made reservations, twice I walked into a packed dining room, and twice I was seated within 10 minutes," notes respected Chicago Tribune food critic Phil Vettel who claims this to be his favorite Francesca restaurant.

"The menu doesn't give much of a selection but the items they do have are amazing. The serving sizes are a pretty good size you can take a lot home or serve family style. The pasta and pizza are very good I did not try any of the chicken or steak so I don't know how those are but I'm sure they are just as good. The dessert was fantastic, the serving sizes are perfect for dessert."

"My outstanding experience at Francesca's on Taylor began as soon as I walked through the door. I was greeted, "It's good to see you," as though I was returning to a family's house. I felt right at home and was given excellent service by the server throughout the dinner. He was very kind and attentive to our needs. The ambiance of the restaurant made for a very comfortable feel and the food (the salmon) was delicious. This was the second time I dined here and they have yet to fail me! I will be returning and continuing to spread the word of this great restaurant."

"The prosciutto-wrapped tilapia was outstanding! The white wine sage sauce was aromatic, yet delicate and complemented the roasted prosciutto and fish perfectly. "Francesca's on Taylor continues to be one of our favorite places. Like the best Italian neighborhood places, they are both family-friendly and have excellent food. I have never had a bad meal there. The menu always has a lot of interesting choices - whether you're looking for something really tasty and low fat (swordfish with artichokes, for instance) or whether you want to plunge into the whole cream-sauce, cheese, meat experience. A special delight - for me - has always been their beef carpaccio appetizer. Enough to share, it's a great balance of flavors and textures - paper-thin raw beef, shaved parmesano, lovely greens."

"While Amy was a very nice and friendly server, we did experience a few uncomfortable moments. For example, we were sitting for a long while before anyone approached our table and we had to ask what her name was, since she didn't introduce herself. Another bad moment was when we were served the bread they usually serve to guests, it was literally dropped on our table from behind me so fast I really didn't see who brought it, the server or the busboy. We asked for the parmesan, but Amy forgot and we had to stop a busboy and ask him to please bring it. Other than those events, we really enjoy Francesca's fresh seafood and the fact that they gave me a dish that wasn't even on the menu. That made up for the other occurrences. We'll be back"

"Francesca's food is usually good, but for some reason, our lunch on Thursday took an unreasonable amount of time to come out. We ordered nothing complicated and the restaurant was hardly crowded. We couldn't understand it, and ended up being very grateful we weren't in a hurry...for once.
Lunch servings should come out much faster. People need to get back to work."

"This place simply has great food quality. The only thing that I don't love about it is the seating arrangements. You basically can hear the conversations of whoever is sitting at nearby tables."

"Not bad. Glad we went there because it's a Chicago tradition. However the atmosphere was not authentic Italian, nor was the food. More like an American version for tourists. The music piped in wasn't even Italian."

"The welcome was fine. The service was very attentive. The food was very good.
We were disappointed in one dessert time, which were the cannolis. They were chocolate chip, and we did not recall that the menu had stated they would be chocolate chip. We would not have ordered them had we known that.

"Francesca's is my absolute favorite restaurant! The food is always on point, I've never had a bad meal. The service for the most part is always consistent. I can always get a table, I've had almost everything on the menu (with the exception of seafood). My father raves about the tilapia!"

"Food at Francescas is good. I have not been to this location in a while and now remember why. Service was horrible. Anytime a server asks if you are in a hurry before even taking a drink order - you have a problem. Despite have a reservation we were walked to the most remote table in the location in the restaurant past other open tables. The final bill was messed up & they would not fix it It took an hour to get our order taken. Never mind a repeat order for a drink. I won't be back to this location Too bad - I used to like this location but after repeated issues such as this I can go elsewhere"

"my first impression of the restaurant was great, they great you with a smile and polite. the waitress was very attentive and answered questiosn about the menu. We had a great seat near the bar along the side of the window. only problem is that the seating near the bar is kinda cramp so beware. the food was fantastic, i ordered the pescatore risotto and it was exquisite. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will be going back in the future"

"My wife's food was not prepared to her liking so she sent it back to the kitchen. Either the cook or the staff promptly forgot about it. After the rest of the group had finished their meals was she told that her meal was now "overdone" and they had to start from scratch. At that point she asked that they box it up so she could enjoy it at home. This problem, while not a disaster, ruined a meal that was meant to celebarate a special occasion."

"Very good food, large portions which make great leftovers. Requested a dish not on the current menu and the waiter was very cordial in accommodating me. Busy night for it was valentine's day, but they honored my reservations and did not rush us or neglect us in any way. Very attentive and polite."

"We went for Valentines. It was packed like most restuarants but they only ran about 15-20 minutes behind on reservations and actually comped our appetizers for the wait. The foood was delicious and reasonably priced. My husband and I will definitely going back for the good service, great food and overall nice experience."

"Came to Francesca's on Valentine's Day, as expected, it was quite crowded. We used their valet service, which was great! We found 2 seats at the bar and decided to eat there. We had great service @ the bar-Kenny waited on us, our drinks were never empty, he made some great recommendations from the menu...I had the veal in a mushroom, brandy sauce---delicisous!!!! and my finace had a pasta dish that he recommended, and of course we ordered the best dessert in the world: chocolate chip banana bread pudding with banana gelato and carmel sauce!!! Can't wait to go back!!!"

"Sergio gave very good service for our late lunch. The fish special, fried calamari appetizer and tiramisu were very good. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Restaurant Week lunch menu. I thoroughly enjoyed the green bean, tomato and red onion salad followed by the special spinach-tomato individual pizza. My dessert of house made mango sorbet was the perfect end.
Francesca's on Taylor is one of our favorite restaurants for both lunch and dinner. Fresh ingredients perfectly combined!"
