"Francesca's North opened in May (1995) and instantly became the hottest spot on the North Shore - for good reason. Scott Harris has mastered the art of serving generous portions of good food at low prices in stylishly simple surroundings with friendly service - a winning formula that eludes so many." Francesca's North features the zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. Located in Northbrook, it encourages the lively art of dining with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, good, simple cooking, friendly service and fair prices. Now accepting reservations, Francesca's North put an end to the tradition of waiting for hours for a table at the bar. Large parties are encouraged to call and set up a family style tasting by the chef called Tavoli di Amici (Table of Friends).

"Menu is more limited than most Italian restaurants, but everything is very good with nice portions and great service. A neighborhood combination of families, couples, small groups seems to always raise the ambient noise level above average. Would do wonders if they could put in some interior elements that could suppress the noise level so you didn't have to raise your voice to talk across the table."

"This is our favorite restaurant to celebrate birthdays with our four friends...we always request our favorite birthday booth. However, this particular day, even though I'd requested this specific booth, the restaurant had not reserved it. The restaurant had plenty of open seating and were not yet busy for lunch, and we would have really appreciated them holding the table that we had requested through a request on open table. Wonder if they could have done as other restaurants do, and put a "reserved" sign on the table?"

"We asked for the bruscetta without proscutto, and we got it that way, but it also did not have any taste.
The other food was wonderful.

"There are better Italian restaurants. Our waiter was very nice and efficient. The bus boy was awful. Had to ask to get the water glass refilled and when then he would touch the pitchers lip to the class rim. Gross!!! The servers who brought the food to our table and the other tables all had their thumbs in the bowls or plates. Gross! The server who brought us our food asked if we wanted grated cheese on our food and did not wait for an answer and left. Our waiter took care of that for us. He was very nice.
I ordered a gluten free pasta that was salty and had one item of each vegetable that the menu described. My husband ordered pasta with clam sauce and he had about 5 clams in his dish."

"We have been many times but I've NEVER had a such a horrible experience. The service was horrible. The waitress was no where to be found. There was a 45 minute gap between our appetizers and our meal. When our meal arrived, we had to send 3 back for either the wrong order or the taste. My son orderd a pasta in white wine sauce with clams and received a bowl of noodles swimming in butter with 4 clams. HORRIBLE!
My our son sent back pesto dish. Too salty.
We were to celebrate a birthday and the waitress brought out coffee and scoop of ice cream before clearing our plates!!
Never again. I wish I can give 0 stars. There are much better Italian places in the neighborhood.

"We have been there many times. The food is always great. Service was fair that night. I had to ask 3 times for more water. After we were finished with our meal, we never saw our waitress again. Couldn't get my water filled and I finally got up and asked another server for more water. Still would go back again because we love the food there."

"This was a + and - experience. Plus - both our guys requested something not on the menu (frutti de mare) and they complied with a smile. Minus - vastly different amounts of seafood in one serving vs. the other. One was truly paltry. Brought this to the waiter's attention. He was stymied by the pile of shells on one guy's plate, vs. the very few on the other guy's. Said he would bring it to mgmt's attention. Then to "make it right", they brought us one complimentary tiramisu (for table of 4). Considering we had passed on ordering dessert, it was enough, but seemed like a not-listening-to-you thing to do. It was not a cheap entree; the one guy really got a bad deal, and the restaurant did not seem to care."

"Francesca's North is a good place to go in the neighborhood. The food is tasty, fresh and well executed. The staff is always nice, the waiters competent and the bus boys rock. Frankly, I wish the bus boys were the waiters. They are more personable and fun than the waiters. I do wish the prices weren't quite so high as we'd dine there more often. But, the three of us ordered two salads, one chicken, one pasta and one carpaccio, three glasses of their least spendy wine and the check was $115.00 with the tip. That is a lot for a quick bite in the neighborhood. It is, however a safe bet at all times, especially when we are able to make reservations that are honored. So many places in the area will take a reservation & we still wait."

"We enjoyed our evening out. The staff was friendly, attentive and accomodating. Although we arrived early as our reservation was at 530, by the time we left the place was packed. There seemed to be an abundance of wait staff, all of them very friendly and happy. We will definitely try this place again and also try other locations."
