Francesca's Intimo
Francesca’s Intimo opened in early 2001 and is the 11th restaurant in "The Family of Francesca Restaurants", bringing downtown Lake Forest a restaurant with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, good, rustic cooking, friendly service and fair prices. The menu features the zesty earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. The design features a rolled-mesh ceiling, warm woods, and colorful slate. Striking black and white photographs of rural Italian life by Paul Elledge line the walls to create a comfortable, decidedly urban setting. Reservations are accepted for lunch and dinner. Carry out and Catering are also available.

"We enjoyed our dinner at Francesca's. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the waitstaff were all prompt and friendly. The meals were good, but overpriced. For instance, I had the pasta with asparagus and the bowl of pasta was large, but the asparagus was very limited, maybe 2 stalks in all. The coconut cake for dessert was delicious!"

"Had 7:30 pm Friday reservation for 2 after work. The place was hopping (which we like). Chic decor (the ceiling is beautiful with rolling dark wooden beams and soft fabric, I think?). By 8:30, plenty of room (typical for Lake Forest). Very small bar area, but excellent martinis as we waited briefly for our table. Food was great. Francesca's salad is just right. I had shrimp and pancetta ravioli and my husband had veal medallions. Both excellent. Coconut cake was special. Cappuccino excellent. Our server was attentive and quietly friendly. Will definitely return. Ideal for groups of 4 or less. I saw only a couple of larger tables for 6. Larger than that would be challenging."

"When we first arrived at the restaurant it was a bit wierd. We could not find a place to park because the parking lot adjacent to the spot was for another business and had very threatening looking signs around it that my wife and I decided we did not want to test. So, we had to go down the street and around the corner to park. It was raining and we had to therefore walk through the rain to get to this restaurant. So not a good start to what turned out to be a very pleasant meal. When we walked in the hostess very sweetly said, "good evening!" So that was nice. We ordered wine and the waiteress was excellent at giving us some time - not too much - to order our food. The meal came and was VERY good. Very flavrofull and worth a 4*"

"The food was great and the wine fantastic. However, you are packed in there like sardines and the noise level is very loud. You had to talk loud for your own party to hear you.
If you are overweight, you might not want to go there, the tables are 1' apart and you may have difficulty getting to the back seats of the table.
I have eaten at Francesca's on Taylor, much roomier place."

"Very busy, crowded, loud -- certainly not intimiate unless you wanted to be so with your fellow diners. Food was quite good. However, the service was painfully slow. I suspect it may have been an exception where our server overlooked entering the order for the salad course. Regardless, I would not be in any rush to return considering the multiple options nearby."

"Our pasta dish had 2 hairs in it, the sausage had grissle in it and the pizza we ordered had very little spinach on it. Our waiter had too many tables and didnt come back to the table once the food was served. The bus boy brought us our check. I think they were having an "off" night."

"Food was "OK"---I had the Pasta Butera. The friend I was dining with requested a veal dish that was not on the menu. He LOVED it with the garlic rosemary sauce and spinach. I liked that we were not rushed out of there. Theuy gave us plenty of time to eat and chat leisurely.
Bread was yummy. Crisp crust, warm and dense in the inside. There is olive oil on the table, however you will need to ask for the freshly grated parmesan."

"We have been to Francesca's Intimo a number of times and have always enjoyed the food and ambiance. The pasta is always delicious and the prices are very reasonable. This visit we tried the garlic spinach appetizer, which was very good. My husband had the rigatoni with sausage and I had the cavatelli with mushrooms and artichokes. Both were quite good. We will definitely go back."

"We booked a reservation on-line ~ we arrived on time and waited 70 minutes to be seated. We asked a number of times how long the wait were and told we would be seated as soon as the next table cleared. I do not blame the staff ~ the on-line booking doesn't take into consideration the busy night and the high volume times ~ a real problem ~ or how long someone will stay ~ this needs to be addressed.We were ready to walk out after waiting 65 minutes and the staff asked us to stay and covered our meal ~ we were very pleased with the meal (and very hungry)! The staff was very accomidating ~ many thanks to the manager, Lisa, for us staying and enjoying ~ a very late ~ but wonderful meal. I would call the resturant and speak to a real person."

"In spite of arriving on time with a reservation, it took a few minutes to get seated. We sat for 15 minutes before being approached by our server. We were told that the menus were being printed and had to wait for the menus. Our table was directly in front of the service door to the kitchen, so there was a lot of traffic that made discussion among our family difficult. When our food was delivered, our waitress was nowhere in sight. The servers did not know who ordered what. We had to tell them. The food was good. Our granddaughter has celiac, so it was important to get gluten free food for her. Fortunately, this was fulfilled as we had determined they had these foods on their menu before selecting this restaurant."

"Made a reservation for Valentine's Day a couple of weeks in advance. We were on time for our reservation. When we arrived, the reception and bar area was packed with people, they had clearly over-booked. When I checked in with the hostess she said they were full at the moment and she would let me know when our table was ready...and then she proceeded to talk to someone else. I got her attending again and asked her how long it would be before we would be seated. She told me that it was Valentine's Day and that they were very busy. Really??...I didn't notice. If I owned this place and heard her say that to a customer I would have fired her. It was pretty rude of her and put a bad vibe on the experience."

"I have always loved dining at Francesca's many restaurants until last Saturday night. We had a 7:15 reservation, but were not seated until 7:45 and that was after I complained. They were seating 7:30 reservations before us because they were parties of 4 and they didn't want to waste the table on my party of two. The food is still wonderful, but the staff was barely attentive, and noise level intolerable. I could hear the couples next to our table better than my husband. The restaurant is just too small to deal with such large crowds. I will not be returning to this Francesca's. The whole experience was very disapointing."

"The waiter was not at all attentive. When asked if a dessert had nuts, he said he did not know, nor did the chef! Turned out the manager did know but the waiter never thought to ask her. They almost threw the food at us to get us out in a hurry. Not at all a relaxing experience."

"We return as a couple and as a family with teenagers to this fabulous restaurant. Menu changes, always replete with creative and delicious appetizers, handmade pasta and elegant toppings and ingredients. Deserts are worth waiting for. The only problem is the weekend evenings are very loud and unnecessarily overcrowded, due to elbow-to-elbow people waiting for a table. Unfortunately, staff allows the jostling and loud crowd to pile into the otherwise compact and cozy dining area, lower and upper level."
