HENRY's is a modern American bistro located on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Our gracious and spacious Dining Room, Bar and Sidewalk Cafe are designed after the Arts & Crafts masterpiece, the Gamble House with mahogany wainscoting and French doors. The walls are filled with bright, food-themed poster art from the Herman Miller Company's Summer Picnic series. HENRY's is the restaurant that one of New York's greatest neighborhoods deserves.
We serve an extensive menu of contemporary American bistro food for Lunch, Brunch, Dinner and Late Night. Our bar offers an all-American wine program based on the discovery of delicious wines at accessible prices. We serve an exciting cocktail list, bottled beer on ice and fresh craft beers.
HENRY's management and staff meet here every day of the year (except Christmas) to offer our loyal Guests the gift of our work and the value of our experience. We offer great food and beverage at a reasonable price with healthy portions of abundant service.
"It was Mother's Day. Lovely touch of a rose and truffles at the end of the meal and a pleasant waiter. However, they were rushed and not up to snuff. Had to ask repeatedly for coffee, which did not arrive with the meal, though requested prior. Muffins were good but no variety and served in a soup bowl without a napkin beneath. Advertised appetizer (soup)(for $29 meal) was served in a tinsy cup that would usually hold a candle. Sauce on eggs benedict was sparse. etc. etc. The experience with a little care could have been nicer.
I would not recommend going to Henry's for Mother's Day (or other popular national occasion?)"

"My family and I have eaten at Henry's several times. We find the food to be high quality and the service to be quite good. It's a great place for Mother's Day and Father's Day and for dinners. I highly recommend it."

"Henry's is a beautiful UWS restaurant with very good American food. The new chef has enlivened the menu, and our meals were very satisfying. The kale salad is terrific, as good as any in NYC. The restaurant is popular, so it gets noisy after 7:30, but with high ceilings it's better than most."

"Since I have a lot of dinner meetings, I find Henry's good because one can talk because the noise level is not excessive. Also the food is always reliably good. Service varies somewhat, but normally it is good."

"I love this place, but our poor waitress was spread way too thin trying to take care of us and too many other tables. This is a common problem when we eat here"

"Kudos to a terrific restaurant. I've been coming to Henry's for years, for special occasions and just to meet friends, at first trekking in from the suburbs and now from across town. Have never been disappointed. Magic in the kitchen produces a marvelous menu full of diversity to suit every palate, with a good wine list. Excellent wait staff. Wide spacing of tables makes the sound level quite acceptable."

"We will be back! I just wish the drinks were included with the brunch, or a bit less expensive. It's easy to find mimosa deals throughout the city and it would be great if Henry's had one!"

"The tables are spaced far apart so you don't hear conversation from neighboring tables. You can actually hear your companions speaking without shouting. The food very good--with a nice range for everyone --meat eaters, vegetarians, gluten free, fish eaters."

"Went there for one of Steven Blier's regular New York Festival of Song performances, which was excellent as always. Prior to the performance, I enjoyed a fine meal of Caesar salad (with real anchovies!) and their excellent Pappardelle Bolongnese."

"When we arrived at Henry's I asked for the window table that was available. The hostess told me they were seating us elsewhere. When they sat us it was in a center table, the same exact size, directly across the aisle from the window table. I asked why can't we sit at the window and she said because that's a smaller table. It was EXACTLY the same size with 6 chairs, and she walked away. I insisted on the window table and finally they sat us there. I did not like being lied to by the hostess. I also tried to get my reservation to an earlier time and was told 3 different times it was booked solid only to find many empty tables when we arrived."

"The food is always good at Henry's. The most attractive thing about dining there is that the tables are far apart, guaranteeing privacy and keeping the noise level down. Service is usually good too."

"Henry's is simply my go-to bar both for visitors and for a quiet evening at the bar with a book, even though I live 40 blocks away. The burgers are fantastic - the only place I'll order a truly rare burger as they do all the meat in-house."

"Henry's is the perfect neighborhood restaurant. The food is always quite good, sometimes special. The service is attentive but not overbearing. And best of all, the tables are spaced far enough apart to allow for good conversations with old friends or one's son and daughter-in-law in town for the weekend. We have been going there since they opened and will continue to do so."

"Very nice looking place. Enjoyed a drink at the beautiful wooden bar. The bartender and hostess were very nice. My steak was just so-so. It was very heavy but not very flavorful. The spinach was unpleasantly bitter. The fries were fine, plentiful but not very flavorful. Two of my three dining companions had about the same experience with only adequate food.. The person eating the half-chicken enjoyed her meal a bit more."

"I enjoyed previous lunches there with a group of colleagues before. This time, I took a friend over for lunch. We both ordered a square meal (four course meal on a single squre plate) -- all serviced at once. However, the restaurant put over 21% tip on my credit card charge ($8.27 tip for $38 meal). I understand the restuarant charges tips on the bill if there is a party of four or more. We are a party of two and the waitress just stopped once to serve the plate until we called for the check -- not even refilled our water -- where is the service??"

"We were two couples catching up with each other who could not have enjoyed the food, service and ambiance more. Smart friendly waitress who knew the menu and wine list. Food well prepared and delicious. It's a bit of a splurge but in this case you get what you pay for. We were ahead of the dinner crowd so noise was never an issue. Expect the volume goes up when the room is full but it's a happy noise. Very high quality without pretense. Look forward to returning."

"My husband and I had a great time at Henry's. The waiting staff was kind and courteous. And the food was delicious OMG! If your a drinker, you get exactly what you paid for. No watered down cocktails, it was lovely! By the time we left, we felt like we were leaving family. Now that is very rate in NYC! And we are from Kentucky so we are used to smiles with our service and we got just that and then some. We will definitely be returning!!!"

"The restaurant is warm and welcoming, and the food was very good. We were graciously greeted by our outstanding waiter, Ryan, whose easy charm, winning personality, and eager to please attitude really made the evening for us. On top of all this, he was well informed about the wine and the menu, and guided us to choices that made us all very happy. This was my first visit to Henry's, and although it is not near my neighborhood, I would definitely go again, and perhaps again and again."

"Waiters tagged teamed us poorly. Manager spent about 20 minutes talking to the table RIGHT behind one of our group, bumping into our guest and laughing like a hyena. Nice to have a manager check with a table, but he was clueless."

"Consistently creative and satisfying menu. Quality of service can vary greatly; tonight's was quite excellent. Very relaxed atmosphere, though sometimes too relaxed (kid from neighboring table sprawled on floor throughout meal; though fault lies with parents, not Henry's)."

"Henry's is always reliable and good. The kitchen changes up the menu enough to make it someplace you can go often, without getting into a rut, and everything ranges from good to very good. I've been there many times and never been disappointed. The bar can be a little iffy in the afternoons, but they usually have at least one bartender from the A team on each evening. Patrick and Joe are especially capable."

"Worth the trip uptown from lower Manhattan. Met some friends and had a wonderful, delicious dinner there. The specials were really good: braised short ribs and a special gnocchi. The scallops, and I'm quoting one of our party "were the best I have ever had". They really were superb. Cooked just perfectly and tasting slight sweet and full of flavor, just what a scallop should be. Only disappointment is that it is not closer to us to go more often!"

"The food is always good, the prices reasonable and the room is really handsome. Four of us had a really nice dinner here on a snowy eve, starting with some very good lentil soup, a couple of kale salads and clams. We followed those dishes with the chicken, the pork scallopine, scallops and a special pork shank. We finished with two very tasty desserts. I like that you can get a cup of coffee for just 2 bucks. It is a place to go for a relaxing, tasty, easy meal."

"We have eaten many times here, and this surely helps with both service and food. My friend lives nearby, and she has been coming since the start. That being said, my dinner was really excellent by any standards. A new chef came a year ago, and while the food has always been at least good, we each think he has been excellent. A major factor is Henry himself; walking round and checking on everything. My one problem is something that can hardly be helped: I have walking difficulty, and negotiating the stairs down to the rest room is difficult for me. Overall: highly recommended."
