Southside Bistro
We are a great neighborhood secret on the south end of town. We offer a variety of fresh fun food from our open display kitchen. We have a hardwood oven for great appetizers and flatbreads. Fresh Alaskan seafood and produce arrives daily and Chef Travis creates great innovative daily specials. Save room for our fantastic home-made desserts. We are proud recipients of the "Wine Spectators" Award of excellence 10 years in a row.
Southside Bistro offers the "Restaurant" side with the complete dinner menu available, and the more casual "Bistro" side with an additional Pizza-burger menu available. Please go to our web site and see our complete menu selections.

"The entrees are wonderful, the service superb. Unfortunately though, dessert never lives up to it's predecessor: the appetizer or entree. It's not so much that a better variety is needed, it's that the items on the list actually need to be improved. None of them are memorable. And it's a shame. Southside Bistro's food is fantastic, why should the desserts be any less important, or less wonderful?"

"My friend and I usually go here frequently, but we had been so busy with school that we hadn't had the oppurtunity in a while. We found the service to be quite slow, and our waiter seemed indifferent to us. (Possible because we were younger?) The fillet mignon was excellent, however the veal medallions were just below par. I love this place and especially the desserts, but after our main meal we were fed up and passed on dessert. I hope they clean up their act. Probably will be a while before we try this place again."

"The alcohol-free wine was so bad I couldn't finish it. (Yes, decent-tasting alcohol-free wine exists.) The caesar salad dressing was dull. The coffee tasted like cafeteria coffee. The king salmon, however, was fresh and perfectly done, with a delicious salt crust. My guess is that their head chef is either mediocre or his budget is too severely limited. But they've got at least one excellent line cook."

"As per usual, the food is fantastic, the servers friendly and efficient. Hard to get a seat at the bar unless you get there early; when you do, the bartenders are awesome and the owner is often behind the bar chatting it up with customers. This is a great 'local' (for south Anchorage) restaurant."

"On a grey spring day in Anchorage, this is the perfect place to meet with friends. Southside's cheerful, yet classy environment is welcoming. "Overall we enjoy this place but we always feel like the staff is rushing us through dinner. Our waiter was courteous and service was good but there is a pervasive feeling of hurry. I have been in the business my self and know the pressure of timing but patrons should not feel rushed.

"Good as usual, but I was disappointed at the original table we were seated at - a table for four placed in a corner, so both my wife and I were facing a wall. After noting that other 2 person tables were available, I asked to be moved - they did move us. But I caught the staff pointing to us and discussing the situation with unhappy looks - I was also told that 'those tables were for people with reservations - we had just been seated by our Open Table reservation. This is a great local favorite of ours - I hope management invests in training for the front of the house."

"I had an awesome Malbec and chewy duck breast that could have been more flavorful. I did like the sauce the duck was in but it didn't contribute much flavor. I liked the cabbage that was paired with the duck but it didnt contribute much. Husband had a wonderfully flavorful stout beer and New York steak seasoned to make your taste buds pop. Good meal but not the best I've had there."

"We visit Southside Bistro fairly often. They're consistently excellent with both service and food. This visit put the Troll Caught King Salmon w a Meyers Lemon sauce on the table for each of us (we were a group of three). It was one of the BEST salmon dinners I've had at any restaurant anywhere. The flavors were wonderful, the veggies were perfectly cooked--as was the salmon--and all flavors melded wonderfully in our mouths. All three of us agreed on how fantastic our dinners were."

"We celebrated a birthday on Friday evening, and as usual, the food and service were wonderful. Food was delicious and presented beautifully, service was attentive and every effort was made to make our celebration as perfect as possible. Our son-in-law's wallet slipped out of his pocket and was accidentally left behind. We received a prompt call from Southside Bistro that his wallet had been found, and could be picked up.
