"For a brunch the food was very average, the value just ok for the $$. I had hope for a bigger selection of food. Dissapointed that I made reservations a long time before and could not get a table with an umbrella. Overall the waiter was very good and we had a good time."

"We are regulars at Sandia and enjoy the twist on Mexican cuisine. On this occasion the food was very good as usual but the service was poor. The server was not attentive and the kitchen was very slow to get food out to the tables. Not sure if they were having an off day or just a new crew."

"When I made these reservations I was told that the brunch went on all day. I made our reservation for 5:30pm and was assured that the brunch and bottom-less bloody Mary's and Mimosas for $9.99 would still be going. I also asked to sit on the roof top terrace. When we arrived not only were we told that the brunch had ended at 2pm, we were sat in a dark room in the back of the restaurant. After asking, we were moved to the patio next to the door. Not what I had hoped for with a reservation 2 weeks prior!"

"The sun made it difficult for half the party to see. Maybe opaque shades would help? Keith did a nice job and the food was good This survey is obnoxious and the noise level was very loud And the choices are not appropriate for level."

"We went during Guacamole feat. Delicious made table side Guacamole! I would have licked the bowl if I didn't have manners! Margaritas are wonderful. I tried the kiwi special. Grilled chicken tacos wee good, a little on the dry side but taste was good"

"The food is normally very savory, spicy and delish! However, the simplest food that was ordered - tacos was not any of those words that described the food I had previously tasted.
We order the tacos - chicken-extremely dry and fatty cuts and my guest ordered the pork, which was plentiful but very dry. The beans were very very thick and almost a paste. The rice was bland and wasn't fresh, some of the rice had a crunch. :(
The good part of the meal was the service and the atmosphere. The place does get really loud at lunch but it's a vibrant chatter."

"This is one of our favorite "Mexican" Restaurants. The food is always consistently delicious! The service is hit or miss though whether it's busy or not, sometimes you have a great server and sometimes they are not so great. This time we went for lunch and it wasn't busy at all. Our server just wasn't interested in helping or serving. We had to ask several times for items and even then it took quite a while. At least the food was wonderful, which is why we go back!"

"on the roof patio and the happy hour food is pretty good fodder to go along with the margaritas. I totally prefer this place for happy hour. tried the brunch one sunday and was VERY disappointed. service was dreadful and the food offered was sub par.
I am only giving it a 3 because the happy hour experience is pretty good and the patio is AWESOME in the summertime."

"Didn't feel like a real Mexican restaurant, but like it had an identity crisis b/t wanting to be an upscale dining establishment & a regular family fare place. We jokingly called it the hipster Mexican restaurant, b/t the club music & expensive food & drinks.
We ordered off the happy hour menu, & at times it appeared that our waitress didn't pay attention to us b/c of it.
The margaritas were good, but they should for the price. $5 for a 12 oz drink doesn't seem too bad, until you see they normally charge $11, & 90% of the glass is ice.
If you want a Mexican restaurant that doesn't feel like a Mexican restaurant, overpriced drinks filled mainly with ice & underwhelming food- then come here. We won't be coming back."

"Overall, good food and good service. We love their rooftop patio on nice days (with a great view). The roasted corn soup and table side guacamole are both great (though the onions are sometimes a little over the top on the guac). I highly recommend the carnitas and fajitas as well. The tacos can be a bit boring and could use some more garnishment for interest. Good chips & salsa, and drinks as well!"

"Our server was really great and the food was wonderful; complex flavor combinations...which you don't necessarily expect from a place connected to a mall. It was fairly noisy, but it was a Saturday night, and the prices were a little expensive...but the food and service was so wonderful that overall the experience was great!"

"Our server was quite accommodating and patient despite our fluctuation of party size from reservation, a long time waiting for the complete party to arrive and taking some time to decide what everyone wanted to order. Though this may have been frustrating for any server, she did not show it, and she still gave us great service, even bringing my mom a birthday dessert. We had a great time and really enjoyed both the fresh La Sandia margaritas and food variety from salmon to carnitas."

"We went to La Sandia for Easter Brunch, unfortunately this was their first Sunday offering a Buffet Brunch and it showed. The website featured a menu with a variety of items, such as Huevos Rancheros and bottomless drinks for $15.00. However when we arrived at the restaurant we were told it was a buffet, cost $19.99 and bottomless drinks were an extra $9.95. Now, on to the food.....very disappointing. Their brunch featured rubbery eggs, bland rice and fatty Green Pork Chili. They did not have any condiments and when we asked for some we were told they were not part of the brunch. The manager did get us some sour cream after my husband went and found him. All in all, we would never go back for brunch."

"I enjoyed the atmosphere and menu at La Sandia but we had some issues with the kitchen. We ordered the tableside guacamole with mild spice but when our server made it, it was really hot. She told us that they were using different peppers than they normally do and made us a new batch with no peppers at all, which was much more to our liking. To her credit and the restaurant's, they did not charge us for the guacamole.
With our entrees, my tamales weren't as warm I thought they should be and my father got onions on his tacos that he had ordered without onions, as well as not getting his side of rice.
Overall, we still enjoyed the food and atmosphere and I would probably go back - especially for brunch or happy hour on their rooft"

"Very good restaurant. Moderate pricing, the noise was acceptable, very timely service. I will say I was a little disappointed with the ambiance. I loved the wall decor, I thought it was very neat! The tables definitely could use a little work, though - they were pretty bare. Overall though, I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

"My husband and I went to La Sandia for dinner Saturday night. Now I know why we don't go. Very cavernous, noisy, and lots of families. The place is fine if you want a quick Mexican style meal, but be advised this is not a date place. Lots of large parties and families. While I don't mind kids in a restaurant, on a date night it would be nice to be at a cozy table or booth where we can enjoy relaxing and talking. So many tables available, but we were put right next to a family with 3 very small kids. The menu has great choices, but the interior of the restaurant needs revamping-badly. Comfortable booths, maybe some rugs to dull the noise, something to make it more pleasing to dine at."

"One of the Richard Sandavol line of restaurants, of which I love all of them I've tried, this one is close to work and I eat here often. This visit I was here for the Denver Restaurant menu, which was excellent, as I expected it would be. The place has an outdoor patio and bar on the roof, for when it's warm enough to use it, with a great view of the mountains. I highly recommend this restaurant, or any of the other RS restaurants in the Denver area!"

"Horrible!!!! The server Matthew was terrible, never had such a service.Very unfriendly, rushed us the all time that we were there for about an hour dinner. It was my husband's birthday, I did put it on the notes, but nobody said anything to Him.On top of that, the server decided that we are too full to have the dessert here and put it in to go boxes, WOW, really? Did I asked you do to so??? Since we had such a " welcome dinner", we decided to finish the wine at home, we went to the bar to ask the bartender to cork the wine and on top of te awefull experience that we had, he says to us: " I will go ahead and wave the cork fee for you tonight." Called the GM to let him know what a "lovely" dinner we had, never called back."

"We've been here numerous times, food and service are always good. This time, we went for 5280 (ordered tamales instead) and had another great experience. I highly recommend the sangria and their signature margaritas. The speciality tamales were excellent, wife ordered standard bean and cheese, our friend had the relleno tamale, and I had the mahi mahi, which was unbelievable! Table side guacamole is a must here and check in with yelp and it'll be free! Will be back again and again (plus they validate parking!)"

"Food was good as always, but for the 2nd straight time, we had reservations and were still made to wait 15-20 minutes. Pet peeve...why offer reservations if you're not going to have them ready? We made reservations due to time constraints and it just set a negative tone for the night."

"We tried the Denver Restaurant Week 5280 deal and it was a good deal of food for the money, it just wasn't that great of food. Started out great with tasty salsa & chips. The appetizers, a Crimini Mushroom Huarache (my wife's choice) and Beef Flautas (my choice) were shared and we found them both bland. The main courses were a pork tamale and a seafood enchilada and of course we continued sharing. I liked the enchilada but the tamale was boring. Included were a creamy plantain rice or cilantro pesto rice which were very good. The desserts included a flan that was OK, and churros which were way overcooked with a chocolate sauce that had to be Hershey's. Not the way to end a meal. Service was very good."

"La Sandia has a great menu, we visited for restaurant week. We have visited this location a number of times. Wonderful (huge) Tequila menu, it's not just for margaritas you know. Highly recommend a reservation on the weekends. We made one, and were seated right away. The wait time was over 45 minutes otherwise."

"Went in for the first time upon recommendations and were less than impressed. The restaurant is pretty noisy, not ideal for dinner. The chairs are made with the Latin theme in mind, however, are quite uncomfortable. The food is OK, nothing earth-shattering, yet is very salty, seemingly to add more flavor to an otherwise bland offering. We had apparently an experienced server based on her well-memorized "welcome" blurb and bored attitude throughout the entire dinner. Drinks are weak, and Caipirinha tasted nothing like it's supposed to. La Sandia is targeting a luxury latino fare, but applying the luxury aspect only to pricing rather than quality, comfort and service. It'll be tough for them to compete long term with the others around them."

"Food was great but service was very slow;took really long time to just get chips & water. Waiter needed better back up help. Table side guacamole was not up to usual standards. Very loud and noisy - hard to have a conversation during dinner rush on a Sat night. Sadly seemed to be overrun with small children."

"This place is LARGE! It felt very industrial, but softened by the art and hanging curtains. The menu is large with something for everyone. My friend is vegetarian and our server made some great suggestions for us both. When the food was brought out by someone other than I server, ( I hate that BTW) we weren't sure which was which since our plates had such exotic names. We asked our server to verify for us and we could only take her word for it. The food was REALLY wonderful! I can say hands down I've never had better Spanish rice in a restaurant before! The black beans were fantastic as was the main dish. I've never been here before this lunch but I'll be sure to keep it on my radar."
