"We frequently go to Limestone and usually everything has been perfect. Service was off this night. We had to ask for silverware, second round of drinks, water refills, etc. We'll go back though--I'm sure it was a fluke."

"After a long week in the fast lane, this was just the ticket. It was quiet, elegant and relaxed. The staff was friendly and not pushy. They knew the menu. Everything came to us. The food was wonderful. I had the grouper special. It came with whipped potatoes, grilled zucchini, shrimp and. maybe, the best scallop I have ever eaten. They should offer those as an appetizer. The prices are comparable to other restaurants of the kind."

"Another memorable visit to Limestone. Owner/Chef Jim Gerhardt has a southern style gourmet menu that changes regularly and never disappoints. Great for fresh fish, beef and "southern comfort" food. Service at this restaurant is alwys top notch, but on this night it was over the top. Highly recommend!"

"I have been to Limestone for business dinners several times and it has been a great place to have great food with attentive but patient service that makes it a good place to do business. The food selections are interesting and well-prepared. My salmon dish came to the table on a board stave which was interesting. My colleagues had a veal chop which they said was excellent and the ribeye which one of my colleagues said was a little below par. The appetizers (shrimp cocktail and divers scallops) were very good. The bread had a nice cheesy flavor without being heavy and overwhelming."

"We reserved a table for four several months ahead of the Kentucky Derby. It was a fixed price menu with a single seating, so there was no rush. Our waiter lacked a certain amount of personality, and was largely absent from the table after the main course was served. There was a limited vegetarian option for my wife. For the appetizer, they did put together a vegetarian plate for her.
It was an overall enjoyable meal for the Friday evening before the Derby. I was somewhat surprised that a mandatory 20% gratuity was included for a party of four on a fixed price menu. I was disappointed as the service was not up to the 20% standard, and included the tax.
Overall, a good meal that left me a little wanting for the price."

"Seven of us went to Limestone for dinner after the Derby. We were soaking wet and a bit sloppy by then, but the staff at restaurant made us feel welcome. Service was unobtrusive, but on the spot. Food was a prefix menu. All courses were well prepared and flavorful. Entrees especially tasty. I had the veal chop and loved every bite. Served with creamy mashed potatoes, yummy sauce. Very tender. Others in party had ribeye, not a bite left on any plate. We all left stuffed to the gills and very happy."

"In town for the derby we didn't know how far this restaurant was from downtown- $140. Rt in cab. Nowhere did it mention special derby menu that had very little southern food. Inexperienced waiters pulled my plate before my husband was half done with his larger plate. While waiting for our cab back a waiter blew thru the door and clocked me! Not worth leaving downtown for."

"Given that this was Derby weekend, I can forgive some problems. The service was a little uneven but the servers were extremely pleasant and tried hard to overcome inexperience. The prix fixe menu was quite nice, although having no choice for appetizer or salad seemed odd. And the salad was tiny. The shrimp appetizer was excellent. The steak which two of us ordered was not. My friend's steak was full of fat so that he really only received half the meat. Mine had very little fat but much gristle and little flavor. The accompanying vegetables were excellent. While nicely presented, the desserts were pretty lackluster. Overall, I had expected better of a restaurant I have enjoyed previously. However, I will try again."

"No mention of fixed price dinner ($110 per person) when I made reservation, or when I needed to cancel a party member. Guest didn't care for dressing on salad, asked for plain salad and was told "no substitutions". Plain salad a substitution??? Also told wine could not be bought in a store. It was 14 Hands Merlot and can be purchased in any grocery store for $9/bottle. Steak odered medium was served very well done. Schrimp cocktail consisted of 2 schrimp. Tip was also added on. This was a party of 4, usually the tip is not included. We were in Louisville for the Breederc Cup both years it was there and dined in excellent restaurants where the service and quality of the food was outstanding. Sadly, Limestone was a major disappointment."

"More expensive than some of the best restaurants in the country. Food was just ok. WOULD NOT GO BACK. They need to tell people who reserve tables that they have a special prix fixe during the derby."

"We were there for brunch, the food selection was well prepared but not outstanding. The menu did feature non breakfast foods in addition to the usual omelet station, biscuits etc. The smoked fish and sirloin were favorites. The cauliflower-brie soup was exceptional. The waiter was attentive, not obtrusive. There was a low table so kids could help themselves to chicken strips nice touch!
We will try it for a weekday dinner!"

"Overall experience was excellent! From start to finish we couldn't have been happier. The service was great, our server appropriately attentive. The selections of wine were numerous and reasonably priced. We were able to order variations of the menu to fit our Lenten diet. Perfect dinner out, thank you."

"Unbeknowst to Limestone, my husband and I were celebrating my 60th birthday and our 30th anniversary. The service was OUTSTANDING! The food was SUPERB! As a two occasion celebration, I decided to order the five course tasting menu with selected wine pairings. Until Limestone, I had never really considered the thought and care that goes into assembling a menu. Flavor flowed into flavor, distinctly separate yet complementary. And the wine pairings were another learning experience. I would have never ordered five different wines during any one dinner! I cannot imagine a bade experience at Limestone with one tiny little exception. I did not get to try the collard greens! They are top of the list for next time!"

"Limestone is our go to place.... When great food and an intimate atmosphere is needed this is always our first choice. The food is always fresh and preparations are interesting. The menu varies but I have never had a bad meal. I had the fish special (wahoo) ... Delicious. The wait staff are very attentive and respond to your needs."

"Limestone is mine and my wifes favorite place to go out to dinner. I don't even look at the menu anymore. I just order the "feed me chef" which is 5 course meal that the chef picks out. I have no problem leaving the meal up to the chef, because I have never had a bad dish at limestone."

"Dinner recently at the The Limestone was reliably excellent. We've been there about a dozen times over 7 years living here in Louisville. The service is always excellent and the quality and the creativity of the menu matches it. The only shortfall on this particular evening was that the soup appetizer - which was deemed "outstanding" - arrived less than hot. It was a Monday night so it was very quiet and ideal for catching up with visiting family from out-of-town.
Overall, a small smudge on an otherwise excellent evening at a restaurant that I often recommend and has never disappointed."

"The server was cocky and arrogant...and just an average server at that. The shoe ribs were very dry and not very good compared to other restaurants around town. The roughy was very good...along with the side dishes. The asparagus was excellent, simply prepared."

"Went here for my wife for our birthdays (2/15 and 2/17) and Valentines Day. We got an appetizer of the fruit, nut, and cheese plate. It was excellent. Reminded us of our honeymoon in Italy. The bread was very good as well. The service was fantastic. We did find it strange, however, that the restaurant was so empty and yet we were sat very close to another party who were very loud and distracting.
My wife had the three course chef's selection. She enjoyed it very much. I chose the chicken cordon blue. It was decent. It certainly wasn't worth $17 though.
For dessert, she had a decadent (yet not that great) fudge brownie of some sort. I had the pumpkin cheesecake, which was insanely overrated. Just dry and not that good."

"Attractive atmosphere, nice bar area and wine selections. We enjoyed the meal very much, my husband had the Seafood Food Mixed Grill and I enjoyed the Potato Cake and Black Beans. The only negative was that we had a reservation but were not able to be seated immediately and the wait staff was slow, so be ready to just relax and enjoy a nice glass of wine and the company."

"The waiter suggested the Feed Me Chef, a five course service with wine pairings. My wife and I both opted for the choice. To our surprise, we each had separate dishes at eevry serving letting us sample from the other person meaning each of us got to try 10 dishes. In each course, the wait staff explained the dishes we were being served, followed by an explanation of the wines that they felt best met the taste of the serving. Again that meant each of us had a separate wine with each serving.
Limestone is always a class restaurant for dinner. While my wife and I both waddled away from the meal feeling overly full, it was nonetheless a very enjoyable experience made even more so by our friendly & knowledgable waiter & wine stewart."

"This was our first time at Limestone and it will be our last. I was so excited about going and the experience was so disappointing.
The service was terribly slow. We sat there for at least 10 minutes before somoone took our drink order and then it was another 10 minutes before our drinks were served. We had to ask our server for bread and butter, although he did appollogized for forgetting it.
The restaurant was busy, but not crowded. The food was ok -- nothing to rave about.
I would not reccommend this restaurant to celebrate a special occassion."
