"We were impressed with the food and service, extremely accommodating. We were so happy with our order and really enjoyed the ahi tuna tacos or cauliflower soup starters, the grilled shrimp salad, the signature crab salad and green goddess dressing and the mushroom stroganoff (vegan version). Would definitely come back again."

"The serene and elegant atmosphere of the Garden Court offers an opportunity to experience dining in a relaxed and unhurried manner, with time to savor the delicacies and enjoy the conversation of table companions. The afternoon tea was delightful, with generous servings of savory sandwiches and sweet pastries, served with properly brewed, high quality tea. I imagine it must be very similar to what was served a century ago (and I noticed that no artificial sweeteners appeared on the table... a nice touch!) The service was friendly and attentive, and a talented pianist played unobtrusively throughout the meal, providing additional pleasure for the senses."

However, the food was really disappointing. We choose their renowned crab salad but it tasted bland. We had to ask for more dressing on the side. At $ 29.00 I felt it was overpriced. Yes it was fresh crab meat but on a bed of lettuce with a small slice of avocado and a few cherry tomatoes and a few thin slices of bell pepper it lacked both taste and imagination. We were a party of 3 and had to wait 15 minutes for the third party to find parking. In that time they did not offer us a basket of bread, in fact I had to ask twice to get some bread. The waiter was noticeably absent. Disappointing food experience! Go have a cup of coffee or have a drink but skip the food. Definitely not worth the price."

"There is no more perfect venue for an elegant luncheon than the Garden Court. I have dined in restaurants worldwide. No single place ever matches the elegance and beauty of the Garden Court. I always have the same item: the Garden Court's crab salad, with Green Goddess dressing, which of course was invented at the Palace. It was even better than I remember it ever being. The generous serving of fresh Dungeness crab meat was exquisite. The fresh baby greens, made a beautiful presentation complimenting the crab, and the freshly made Green Goddess dressing tied everything together. A perfect treatment of a classic luncheon salad. The mixed bread basket featured marvelous SF sough dough rolls. The service was excellent. Perfection!"

"The Garden Court best get its act together. It's a lovely place for a quiet business lunch as compared to the noisy hip places downtown. But the service was abysmal - starting with the hostess. The prices are a little steep - even for downtown SF. I enjoy the location - due its central location but value received for price - it's becoming not worth the quiet!"

"The Garden Court is the most beautiful, romantic place to eat. The history of the room is amazing. Staff is friendly and attentive. "The ambiance, of course, was the best. I surprised my 91-yr old aunt & cousin by taking them there; so, we could reminisce. We worked on New Montgomery.
We were disappointed, first, because they no longer serve the Palace Court Salad and the Spicy Shrimp salad my aunt had was rather mushy. The lettuce looked wilted, really. She was not impressed and really did not eat it. It was too bad to go there & have her not like it. (Drove from Santa Rosa.)
My cousin & I had salmon w/prawn(s), but we were disappointed because there was only one prawn. Also, we found the mashed potatoes was not a a good side. A side of a nice rice compliments fish & is a better choice.
The setting was the best part of it all, and the waiter was great."

"Perfect Easter Brunch. What you can't avoid is the outstanding design and nostalgia of the Palace- walked in off of Bart and this gorgeous atrium is filled with fine set tables and a professional jazz trio in the middle of it all. The adjacent ballroom is home to what I have called, "the nothing forgotten buffet to end all buffets". I might add that I have always hated buffets and would still consider the Palace every Sunday. Included champagne was a surprising couple steps above the bubbly vinegar most Brunch spots peddle."

"Our party of 4 was celebrating a 'big' birthday and we hadn't seen each other in months so really needed to catch up, and the Garden Court allowed us to talk easily without having to repeat due to a too loud room. We loved that aspect. We also loved our waiter, the ambiance, the crab salad was to die for and we never felt rushed as you sometimes do.

"What a beautiful dining room, too bad that many of the guests around us were dressed as if they had just rolled out of bed or come in from a morning run wearing jogging outfits. We had got all dressed up to dine in one of the loveliest dining rooms in celebration of a major birthday. The ambience of the place does take a ding when there is no minimum dress code. The morning breakfast offerings were good but standard...the service was just okay...we had to ask to get our coffee refilled and the staff seemed intent on whisking our plates away before we could finish eating off them. I think the Palace could spiff things up a bit with the menu, staff service and impose a minimum dress code in the spirit of the historic dining room."

"The Garden Court is a lovely space, and the service is always very good. I have dined there several times over the years, and have found the food to be somewhat uneven - always good, but seldom stellar. If you are a carnivore, they use very good beef, so a steak is always a good option. The soups are also usually much better than average."

"We took the City Guides walking tour of the Palace Hotel and then stayed for a special price lunch offered by the Hotel to those who participated in the tour. It was quite, extravagant, the food was superb, portions larger than we expected for the special lunch price. We would do this again and would bring friends next time."

"We enjoyed the food, service & ambience at our recent luncheon (four of us who live outside San Francisco). It wasn't crowded, nor was it noisy. I'd recommend the Garden Court at the Palace Hotel to anyone."

"We had a leisurely lunch under the glass roof and near the marble pillars on the edge of the dining area. The waiter was fun, helpful and attentive. The pear salad was a special treat, not only good tasting, but beautiful as well. The lunch went on as the room emptied of other patrons, and we both indulged ourselves in the opulent surroundings."

"The experience was worthy!. One hint to those attending would be to walk around to view the different stations before selecting your food as there are so many great dishes one might like to pace your meal so that you can taste savory and the sweet. The addition of the music is just perfect for the visit to this San Francisco landmark. Enjoy. WE all truly loved it."

"Iconic San Francisco location never fails to please. A pity the guests seated next to us felt compelled to pitch a fit over a $5.00 discount to which they (she) felt she was entitled. In a place like that, take it outside, take it quietly or take it as a lesson learned. Manners have taken leave of polite society...
I bring all my guests here for breakfast/brunch - it's the perfect start to a classic San Francisco tourist day or weekend."

"The Garden Court is beautiful. The grandeur of the setting far outshines the rest of the experience.
I went for their much-lauded (and rather spendy) breakfast buffet. Some of the food was great, like the omelets. Other things were just okay, like the dim sum. Some things didn't deserve to be there, such as the crepes which weren't freshly-made.
The service left a lot to be desired, which is a sorry state of affairs for a buffet. We didn't see our waiter for nearly 10 minutes after we had been seated, and we would have really liked coffee and orange juice. Throughout the meal, the waiter was rarely to be found. My coffee mug spent much more time empty than full.
There are many better brunches at half the price."

"Wonderful turn of the century room with breathtaking glass ceiling and chandeliers.
The brunch is a buffet only, but both the diversity and quality of it makes up for it.
The service is attentive despite a lack of speed coming from the very dynamic atmosphere in a significantly crowded place.
