"I hate to write this review because I've had wonderful experiences at Poggio in the past, which is why we decided on this place to take our out-of-the-country guests. The meal started out well when they gladly obliged our request for a table change from the inside back to an outdoor table. The waiter made an excellent wine selection when we told him we didn't want to spend a lot of money on a bottle. After that it was all down hill. 3 of the 4 of us sent our dinners back because they were either not cooked or not prepared correctly. The manager did come out to make sure we were satisfied and they comped us one dessert, but overall we were left with a bad taste in our mouths (pun intended) and for the price we won't be returning."

"The food was cooked appropriately, but the presentation wasn't that interesting. We didn't leave hungry, but there was nothing about the food for that price that makes either of us feel compelled to return. A piece of salmon on top of a bed of spinach tasted fine, but I could have done that at home easily. However, the woman who took care of us was outstanding. She was warm and attentive without being intrusive. I wish she worked at a place to which I'd like to return. She was a cut above."

"Very disappointed with our last visit. Our waiter was horrible. He sloshed our very expensive wine on the table, ignored us, slammed our plates down as he sped by, and he seemed to be no different from the rest of the waitstaff at Poggio. The food is wonderful so maybe we will get takeout next time!"

"We ve dined at poggio often since they opened and mostly always enjoyed. This time was different. The food was overly salty and the service incredibly indifferent. We were in and out in less than an hour. Something has changed dramatically. As locals we have many excellent choices and we won t be going there again."

"We have enjoyed the restaurant in the past and returned for a special occasion. Our server was pleasant, but on the slow side, with forgotten beverages. We ordered the porterhouse, which was perfectly cooked, and enjoyed sharing it. The pastas were good but the portions were ridiculously small. The evening was expensive, which was fine, but I didn't walk away feeling that it was well worth it."

"Wonderful location, extensive menu, choice wines but every time we go to Poggio, there is something to detract from the experience. Several times there were reservation issues (don't have the reservation, a delay in seating, etc). This time the service was very poor and the waitress didn't smile once. After initially asking her to give us a few more minutes to decide, we then didn't see her again for 15-20 minutes. Salmon was ordered "medium to well." It came rare. The grilled asparagus never did arrive. Such a lively, popular restaurant in the heart of Sausalito shouldn't still be making such rookie mistakes."

"I live in Sausalito but--for whatever reason--have not been to Poggio in more than 5 years. Perhaps it seemed a little too 'touristy' and thus avoidable. So it was a great pleasure to become reacquainted last week with this wonderful local restaurant. The food was quite good, we enjoyed a wonderful (never tried before) italian-influenced chardonnay from Sebastopol, and the service was personal and most attentive. For visitors and locals alike, Poggio is a fine dining experience."

"We just visited Poggio for a surprise 18th birthday party for my daughter. I coordinated two tables in advance...one for my daughter and her friends and one for the adults. Nolan helped facilitate seating my daughter's friends before we arrived to help with the surprise.
The staff was amazing and took great care of us.
The food, as always, was excellent. I've dined at Poggio many times and have never been disappointed."

"I booked this for a team lunch with my work colleagues for a day trip to Sausalito. Our server was extremely nice, friendly and helpful. The pasta was all hand-made from scratch, delicious and a wide-range of choices, and the chicken cooked flat under a brick was succulent and juicy. Semi-formal decore, mostly older crowd but still quite congenial. The only downside is there's no seafront view, but this is offset by the extremely convenient location."

"Perfect and discreet service! Great food. Upscale, QUIET and mature atmosphere. Open and airy.
I arrived before my date and was directed to the bar area as a fine place to wait. The bar guy discreetly noted this and immediately came forth with two coasters and a drinks menu and even guided a new guest to a different chair to leave the two seats available for me and my date. THAT alone is great service! Perceptive staff!
When my date arrived we opted to go straight to our table. The table service was equally discreet and perfect. No breaking into the conversation to as "how is everything!". They just kept a watchful eye out and made sure it was all great. GREAT food as well. Loved the Ahi appetizer especially."

"This was our second visit to this restaurant in Sausalito, and exceeded even our wonderful first visit. The dinners typically have some Italian flair, and were superb: lamb chops and risotto for me, spinach lasagna for my wife, both cooked to perfection. The restaurant is quite quiet, particularly for these days, and includes some outside seating across from the harbor for warm evenings, and the service is attentive and polite. Of the places we've eaten in Sausalito, Tiburon, and Mill Valley, Poggio's is way above the rest! My only regret is that I didn't find out if it is named after Poggio Bracciolini, a fifteenth-century humanist."

"This was my second visit to Poggio. The first visit was a birthday treat from my friend. We had such a fabulous ime she chose the venue for me to take her out for her birthday.
We never felt rushed, as we sat outside, enjoying the gorgeous day. Our appetizer (shrimp, avocado, blood oranges, radicchio, greens) was outstanding. We enjoyed it with the fabulous bread and sweet butter. My friend's grilled halibut was perfectly done, and the kale was beatifully prepared. (I snitched a bite.). My scallops were so fresh and scrumptious I was in heaven. It was supposed to come with arugula, but the substitution of watercress was likely even better.. We both enjoyed a side of asparagus. "Poggio is unique. One is transported to Europe - to the unhurried atmosphere of fine dining and ambiance so often missing in this country. The wait staff is knowledgeable, patient and willing to go the extra mile for special requests. The food is wonderful, the choices varied and, always, the quality and taste is uniformly excellent. "Subtle" is a word the chef knows well - flavors are individualized, meant to be savored, enjoyed. And the setting is warm, comfortable and sophisticated. If you can, ask to be seated at an outside table and at once find yourself in Paris, Italy, or any country where people watching is an added course."

"We shared as to,have more tastes. The beef cheeks with polenta appetizer was delicious. Served piping hot and full of flavor. Is very rich, so sharing is the ticket. Next an interesting salad with fresh peas, fava beans, and other veggies. The pesto pasta also a pleaser. Can I say that I could have made an entire meal on the bread. Is just the best.

"I have been at Poggio many, many times and service has always been outstanding. This last time service was very spotty, had to ask for things several time, waited a very long time before taking appetizer orders. I hope it was because it was Easter and extra busy. I will definitely return even though Chef Peter Mcnear is no longer there...the food was still outstanding."

"Not only is the room lovely, there are sidewalk tables with marina views and a ringside view of the people parade. But it is the food that is truly exceptional-a seasonal menu, with unique items that are quite perfectly prepared. I've been here twice, but now I ask myself, "why not more often?" "A wonderful place to dine. We've been here several times and the waite staff is the best. They even arranged to get me something that was not on the dinner menu. Very accommodating. The following morning, the Italian guys hustle your blast together and bring it out to you table with a smile, even though they were very busy. We felt happy when we go there because everyone is so cheerful. Thank you for making our stay in Sausalito memorable. We will be back."

"We have been there many times but unfortunately this time we were seated by a group of 15 people. We did not complaine and suffered through children sreaming and crying. To make matters worse when that group left another group of 20 showed up! We have spent serious money there and were shocked how we were treated. We moved to the bar and our desert was comped but after waiting 30 minutes, we had to ask where it was! NOT GOOD, we will not be going back!"
