"We USED to go there as a group all the time. The last few times we have had the WORST service. WE get there early, so we can get out early, specifically ignored, even before it got busy. I am glad they are changing the restaurant, hopefully they are updating their staff too, to people who care about customer service. Geeze"

"This is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. The food is consistently good as well as the service. I have been there for brunch serversl times. Love the Potatoe pancakes with Smoked Salmon and Eggs Benedict. Hats off to the chef for making a perfect poached egg...everytime!
Skirt Steak whether with brunch's Steak & Eggs or lunch/dinner Skirt Steak Salad is cooked perfectly too. Bacon Creme Brûlée was creamy & delicious with just a perfect hint of bacon. Tasty drink special and appetizers too."

"We were there for Easter brunch and it was a late reservation at 1:30pm. We were served but not very courteus, our food came cold and have to asked several times to get more coffee and cream. We have to asked twice before they finally brought the bread."

"Our appetizer arrived about 15 minutes after our entrees were served. I'm convinced the kitchen needs some organization as this is a common issue at my visits. Either this happens or one of us has to wait for his entree when everyone else has been served."

"I had never visited the restaurant before and came with a colleague on a weeknight. We thought the food was fantastic! He had the ahi app and a beet salad with chicken; I had the grilled Scottish salmon. I wish I had some right now! Very pleasant staff, the bartender makes a killer martini, and just overall, a very likable experience. I will definitely go back on my next visit to San Mateo, or will maybe even make a special trip."

"Dinner was wonderful...they even personalized our menus for our anniversary event. Nice touch! Everything we had was great...monterey bay fry, caesar salad, filet mignon kabobs (awesome!), seafood linguini (tons of fish) and of course the Ho-Ho! Coffee was a nice strong, flavorful cup. We felt rushed and the servers, with their enthusiasm to serve, were yanking plates out from under us while we were still chewing. "A little disappointed on this visit. We had a reservation and when we arrived there were two booths available but instead we got stuck on a small table in a corner and there was barely enough room to place two dinner plates and 2 wine glasses. It was very tight quarters right in the main traffic route for the waiters. Food was good as usual but we were anxious to finish and get out."

"The onion soup and crab cake were perfect. Seafood risotto was good. However, the pork tenderlion was dry. I think it was over-cooked. For dessert, I tried the maple bacon creme brulee. I would say I like the original favor better. Bacon with creme brulee didn't go too well for me."

"I picked Astaria to dine at for a large group. They were able to accomodate us very nicely. Drinks were great except for the mojito, which we had to send back. Entrees were all delicious, except for one; the steak was overcooked, but was taken back and another brought out to order and was comped. Desserts were wonderful. We loved the option of the "mini-dessert" sampler. All were enjoyed except for the bacon creme brulee,not our favorite. Top winner-the Cinnabon Bread pudding. Would definitely dine there again."

"We had been there before a couple of times and liked it. This night we invited friends that had not been there. It was full. We were seated quickly but next to a table of about 15 or more and it was LOUD. We had to talk loudly across a table for 4 and still missed a lot of what was said. The staff was understanding and apologetic but there was really not much that they could do."

"Popped by on a Sunday evening and found the restaurant was not crowded. Our host was also our server, a polite young man. Our food was served promptly; it appeared and tasted just as described on the menu, if not better. My partner had the crab cakes and I had the filet mignon kabob-both were A+. I must also mention that the other restaurant staff were also polite to us while serving water, food, and bidding farewell. We will definitely return and further recommend Astaria to our friends :)"

"Astaria has always been my favorite local spot. My Florida friend requested it! Clearly though they donor value regular diners. Menu offers many tasty & fun choices. However, being told we were late (10
Minutes at 6:00 pm and that our table was booked at 7:30 and could we plan to leave by then? We ate with this in mind, watching a table across sit empty the entire meal. At 7:30 they placed menus at the tables on either side of us. The place had empty tables all evening. They could have moved us. Really disappointing, never again with a guest! And you can be sure I shared this story with friends at a party."

"Astaria is a mainstay for us. We go there for upscale comfort food. The food is very good and consistent. The service is always exceptional. Last...The cinnamon roll bread pudding should not be missed!!"
