Bistrot La Minette
Bistrot La Minette is the realization of Chef Peter Woolsey's dream that began a decade ago during his earliest days studying in France: to create a restaurant that would share his love of the authentic bistrot experience with his fellow Philadelphians.
Chef Peter pays great respect to the traditional dishes that he creates and honors the classical French methods required to achieve unparalleled bistrot cuisine. Both savory and pastry menus are ever evolving to reflect the seasons, the availability of the best ingredients and the inspiration of the chef. They are drawn from the various regions of France and the multitude of delicacies that each has to offer. The service is both efficient and warm, rooted in a foundation of hospitality and caring for our guests.
Our goal is for Bistrot La Minette to be accessible to all guests that enjoy superb food and wine, and the company of their companions: hoping to evoke their best memories-or dreams-of traditional French bistrot dining.

"Very delicious food--both my salad and filet mignon were spectacular. Desert was a little lacking...a little too strong on the caramel. The service was wonderful, but our entrees did take quite a long time to arrive, so much so that my stomach had time to empty in between courses...and then never got filled again. Highly recommend for a special occasion or a romantic evening."

"This was a birthday dinner for my husband, who's quite the foody. I am not a foody & not a meat/rich sauce fan. It was a Mon. evening, & while the restaurant wasn't crowded, it wasn't empty & perfectly met my expectations of a French Bistro: informal & cozy, warm lighting & the ability to have a conversation without shouting. Despite my picky food habits our waiter was patient & not put off by my non-meat/limited dairy request. He made suggestions, checked with the chef, & gave me a delicious plate of sauteed scallops over melted spinach & mushrooms. My husband loved his escargot appetizer, rabbit main course & tarte tatin dessert. A plate spelling out "happy birthday" & 2 exquiste chocolate truffles made the perfect end to our evening."

"This is a great french bistro. The chef is Alsacien which has the best food in the world . We will be back and have recommended LA MINETTE to all. From the appetizers of grilled sardines and bouche a la reine with wild mushrooms to the rabbit and salade verte finishing with the trio of homemade ice cream....this dinner was spectacu-losa !!!!! Merci !!!!!"

"From the time we entered until the time we left we received first-class service, attention, wine, and food. Bistro La Minette is perfect for casual or classier events. We chose the fois gras special for an appetizer. Our entrees were the Miller's Trout and the Filet Mignon special. Both were perfectly done. The bread served with dinner was outstanding, crusty on the outside and perfectly moist on the inside. Our desserts were a layered cake of rasberries and cream and the Creme Brulee. Both were excellent, but the creme brulee was the absolute best we've ever had. The only thing better was the service, provided by Cain. The chef and waiter reminded us how truly special our anniversary was at every moment."

"Enjoyed another marvelous meal...The duck confit was excellent. Others had the fish , which apparently was just as good, cause the plates looked rather clean at the end.
Now know what pastis is all about .... try it, you,ll like it.
And of course, dessert was a real winner.

"Took my boyfriend here for his birthday. There was a slight hiccup at the front that initially seemed like attitude, but we soon came to see was probably frustration on the part of the server who came to handle us since apparently the hostess was away from her station. We figured it out and understood, but it's not good form to let it show.
Anyway, from that point on everything was just about perfect; the service was professional, but not officious. The food was wonderful; I don't think I mentioned in making the reservation that it was my boyfriend's birthday, but our server overheard me mention it, and they ended the meal with a lovely set of chocolates on a plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate on it.

"We brought my mother to Bistrot La Minette for Mother's Day dinner. Of the four of us, I was the only one who had been there previously (4 or 5 times). Overall the food was very good -- that asparagus soup was outstanding! My duck confit was disappointing -- not a good piece of meat. But everyone else's trout, scallops and chicken were delicious. And the crime brûlée hit the spot. Mostly, though, it is always an unpretentious, charming spot to have a relaxed French bistro meal in Phila."

"This was the last restaurant we tried during our 3-nights of fine dining, and it was our favorite. The waiter was spot-on with his recommendations for the wine for our different courses and the food was prepared and presented deliciously. I would highly recommend a visit!!"

"We love French food and we expected high quality. The steak was very hard and difficult to chew. The seabass with artichokes was pretty good. The bib salad was also good. There are only 5 entrees to chose from. I would say if the meat was better quality this place would be much better. The staff were very nice and attentive."

"La Minette faithfully recreates the ambiance of a Parisian bistro. We had brunch and the crowd was thin, but the atmosphere was still attractive. Portions were excellent for brunch and the menu had plenty of choices. The three of us all chose the three course prix fixe ($25) which I thought was a real bargain. Service was excellent."

"I treated my wife and my Mom to dinner at Bistrot La Minette for Mother's Day and it could not have been a better choice. They both loved the food, the service and the atmosphere of the place. We had a terrific round marble-top table right by the front windows. It felt like we were in Paris again! My Mom raved about the asparagus soup, my wife was thrilled with her lamb printanier and my trout with almonds was delicious. We enjoyed wine and bottles of Perrier. Our desserts of crème brulee and gateau opera were wonderful too. All in all, this was a very successful Mother's Day celebration for us. It was our first time here, and we'll be back!"

So we came back for lunch thinking may be the first time was a busy night and the food may be overcooked..
Appertizer selection was ok. But the entree was pretty bad, my husband ordered lamb and I ordered duck confit, both were favorless. Luckily we filled up on desert which was cream burlee and the raspberries tart.

"I got brunch here and it was delicious. We ordered snails, lamb, duck, and trout and they were are absolutely fantastic. I'm always afraid to order fish because its usually bland but it was actually really flavorful. Although, the portions were a tad small but that is to be expected for lunch."

"The smaller room to the side was unusually nice & quiet so we could easily converse & enjoy each others' company. The Scallops entree flavorful and tender: cooked just right. Crusty, tender bread
Black bass main course was a little skimpy for the money, & not so flavorful, but an antidote for all that delicious brown butter with the scallops. Duck confit was succulent & perfectly spiced with a hint of anise. Yummy lapin & fresh pasta. Didn't try desserts, but hope to return soon. Our waiter was jolly and attentive, but never in the way."

"I have been here twice over the course of ten days. The service was superb...well informed, not intrusive, but aware at all times of where things stood at our table. Like good service in France. I had the Alsatian flatbread starter and the rabbit on my first visit....loved both. The dessert to have is the mille feuille with raspberries...one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. Exquisite light pastry, and not a huge serving. We had a well priced bottle of sparkling rose ...a little sweet at the first taste, and not sweet as you began to enjoy it."

"Not much bang for the buck. Four miniscule sardine filets with four slices of roasted pepper does not warrant the $13 price tag for this appetizer. The seared foie gras was underseasoned and paired with a honeyed pea puree. The combo didn't work. Kind of stuffy as well. The days of sport coat dining are over. Not a terrible experience buy won't go back."

"Delicious typical brasserie food. My only gripe is that the portions are rather small. I am a small person and it doesn't take much to fill me up, but I walked out hungry, even though I had all three courses! Since the portions are small, I found it overpriced, though by today's fine dining standards the prices look "reasonable." I'd say they should either lower the prices or serve more food. I had the sea bass as my main dish and it was OK: my husband raved about the duck. He also ordered a dessert that was more impressive than mine: don't miss the mille-feuilles aux framboises.

"Country French super place. Mussels with poached egg and bass over the top. Sardines and pepper app a little on the smallish side. Trout excellent. Little corner bar with nice wine selection. Not pretentious. Wife left her cell phone. They checked with Open Table found my cell number and called me so we were able to go right back and get it. Very attentive service from Ed and GM Brad. A keeper. Now if they could only figure out a solution to the parking nightmare."

"On the occasion of my son's 24th birthday, we dined in the courtyard of this charming and authentic French restaurant. Service was impeccable. I have not tasted escargots as delicious as those I had at Bistrot La Minette since visiting Paris. Having garnered that we were celebrating with our son, our waiter presented us a lovely plate of made-inhouse chocolates with Happy Birthday written in chocolate at meal's end. This charming gesture will be remembered as a fitting cap to a truly enjoyable experience."

"I do not know what "fit for foodies" means........The food was fabulous both times we have gone here. Last night I had roasted chicken with leeks. I licked the plate. Bread crusty, butter nice and soft. When I was not sure of which wine I wanted, the waiter brought over 2 choices by the glass and let me taste both. Good thing too, I would have picked the one I did not like if no taste was offered. Dessert was the Raspberry Napoleon with caramelized pastry. The caramel put the dish over the top for sweetness. I would have preferred just a drizzle around the edge.
I understand they do movies outdoors in the summer? Will definitely be a go to event for me."

"Amazing!!! Best food I've had in awhile. Cassis kir royale was delicious and the mussels and crispy duck were to die for. Even the mustard and pickles were fabulous. I can't say enough other than I've made two reservations."

"A real neighborhood gem! Sat outdoors since it was a mild evening and had a wonderful dinner. Excellent executions on the trout and my son loved the beef cheeks. Loved the complimentary puff pastry appetizer. Great butter and bread.
Service was great until a large party showed up, then I noticed the drop off of attentive service but we were already on our entree course so it was okay but it was the reason for not ordering dessert.
Asked my son who has visited and stayed in Paris twice if it was like Paris...he didn't feel it was quite like Paris but still felt it was a great ambiance."

"We had been looking forward to dinner at La Minette and honestly it was a disappointment.
The drinks were excellent, but the food was fairly tasteless. There were six of us and no one had a meal they thought was very good. Fish was bland, pasta was very salty.

"I recently took a class at Cook's in Philadelphia where Peter was the chef for the evening. Very enjoyable and loved the food he prepared for us. This prompted me to take two of my gal pals to Bistrot La Minette to experience and enjoy his food. They loved the food and both said they would go back with their husbands. We actually may consider doing the "family dinner" thing with all of our spouses. That looks like fun."
