The folks behind Follia built this new rustic Italian spot in Wicker Park on land previously occupied by a McDonald's. Two wood-burning ovens churn out pizzas, and there's a wine-friendly menu of appetizers, house-made pasta and more. Expect selections such as pizza with goat cheese and black truffles, a prosciutto-, pomodoro- and mozzarella-stuffed calzone, pappardelle with tomatoes and basil, and thinly sliced New York strip with arugula and parmigiano-reggiano. With dishes topping out at $20, the menu here is easier on the wallet than Follia's, but like Follia, Tocco has an arty focus. Look for alfresco fashion shows and more outdoor activities in the summer.
"Love this place. Very different dinning from usual "Italian-American, mom's kitchen" kind of places that are all over Chicago. I rarely crave pasta but they do such a great job here with their pasta. The portions are perfect because the quality is so good that I always leave satisfied."

"Our food was amazing! A lot better than expected... Service was ok, place could use more servers. I found myself trying to get a server attention more often than not. Food outweights hassle though!"

"This restaurant is unimpressive from the outside but inside it's sleek and sophisticated. The food was exceptionally good. Pasta was delicious, salad was fresh and enough for two people to share, and the pizza was full of fresh ingredients. Waitstaff was attentive and knowledgeable. The outside patio wasn't open on the cold night we stopped, but it would be a great place to sit on a pleasant night. Would whole-heartedly recommend this restaurant."

"Neither the menu nor the wine list is extensive, but each represents great taste and discrimination. Food and bread tray always superbly prepared and presented. The owner is always present mingling casually with patrons and ensuring a warm and inviting dining experience."

"Still one of our favorites. Owner, Bruno Abate's infectious personality fills the restaurant as well as informs his food with all the best of its Italian inspiration. A great value set in contemporary designed space that we and our teenage kids love (both the space and the food)."

"Saturday night we went to Tocco with friends who had never gone and again we had a fabulous time. The food is excellent, we generally eat family style and share. Everything was perfect and we all loved what we ordered. Bruno is a wonderful host and executive chef. I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed."

"Food was delicious and service was top notch. As some other reviewers have commented - the large picture screen was a little distracting and overall the decor was very modern compared to most Italian places. The food however was delicious and I would go back for that. I am shocked that this place wasn't busier on a Friday night."

"This was our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised. The food is very good and quite authentic. We had the pork and arugula appetizer and it was fabulous. So were our pasta dishes -- cacao e pepe and the butternut squash ravioli -- YUM!!! Very nice modern decor. Service was very attentive when we arrived at 6:30, but once the restaurant became full about an hour later, the service was not great. But overall we had a very nice dinner and will definitely go back."

"The food is very run-of-the-mill. We had a burata appetizer and two pasta dishes; they were fine, but nothing we couldn't have made ourselves at home. The wine list is extremely limited. Prices were reasonable except for the appetizer, which was a special and twice the price of other appetizers, of which we were not warned. The decor is partly attractive sleek design, partly tacky. The main room is dominated by a huge video screen showing aerial footage of Italian landscapes, and by a sculptural ensemble involving female mannequins. The service was tentative: the waitress didn't seem to know the food very well (not understanding "zuppa di giorno"), and the busboy didn't know whether he wanted to bring us fresh silverware. No clear identi"

"Everything was wonderful! I'd been wanting to try this place for a while, and my birthday was the perfect opportunity. Thank you to the Tocco staff for a fantastic experience (and the birthday glasses of moscato)!! I will definitely be back, and look forward to introducing more of my friends to your restaurant!"

"We are regulars at Tocco, and it never disappoints! The food is authentic Italian! Start with a pizza to share as an appetizer, move to salads and shared pastas! Prices are reasonable for the quality that you get!"

"I brought my wife and another couple for our first dinner at Toccoand we had a blast. Brunno, the owner, greeted us like family and from that moment we knew it would be great. The appetizers were amazing. Bruno brought us a complimentary appetizer because he and the staff are genuinely excited about their food. The pizza, the pasta and the wine were amazing. Can't wait to come back!"
