Boston's most exciting & comprehensive wine list cannot be found at a steakhouse or hotel; it is at Troquet, where cutting-edge cuisine & a killer view of the Boston Common act as accompaniments to an evening guaranteed to fulfill any wine connoisseur's fantasies. Please allow a minimum of two hours for dinner.
"Dined at Troquet for first time Saturday evening. Lovely room with warm ambience and nice view. Staff couldnt be nicer or more attentive. Menu is ambitious and interesting. Appetizers were very good. Only downside is that both my wife's entree and mine (they were different) had too much salt in them. Not bad enough to send back but significant enough to diminsh both dishes which with otherwise very nice."

"A great Dining experience as usual. The food and service are excellent. Known for their Wine Pairings and Wine list, but wines are quite expensive. Less than 5% of wines by the bottle are less than $100!! Would go more often (as would friends) if wine prices were more reasonable. But you can't beat the food. Octopus and Suckling Pig were out of this world. The Dover sole sole was best we tasted in all of Boston. Deserts were also top notch."

"Troquet will never let you down. The food is consistently well-executed and service friendly and efficient. If you're a wine lover, the list here is one of the deeper, more serious ones in the area, with lots of old, hard-to-find vintages at prices that are --- given the wines we're talking about --- more than fair. My only two complaints: First, it's time for a serious freshening up of the interior. The drab furnishings, the dull hardwood floors, the worn dining chairs -- feels more like the Rattlesnake down the block than a fine dining establishment. Time to put a few $ back in. Second, food prices - especially appetizers ($18-$23) - seem high. But if you close your eyes to the surroundings and the food bill, you will enjoy."

"The food at Trouquet is awfully good. I had fois gras 2 ways that was awesome. And where else can you get a glass of Chateau D'Yquem with your fois? I had pan sauteed dover sole with lemon beurre blanc. Very pricy but oh so good. Striped bass was not quite as popular, just a little fishy tasting. But all 4 of us loved our meals."

"My husband and I ate dinner here and absolutely loved it! The food was phenomenal. We have eaten at a lot of great restaurants and we were so impressed by the quality/taste of our meals. Some of the best food we've ever had. It was so delicious! The service was great too. I had requested a window seat for my husband's birthday and they promptly sat us in one of the best views of the restaurant. Our waiter, Rick, was great...very knowledgeable and personable...great service!"

"Food was amazing. Like I said, best I've had in recent memory. Typically not a fan of French food, but I was amazed at how each course offered the best in taste and presentation. We'll be back soon, hopefully for the tasting menu."

"The food, wine, and service were as expected. The wine list is pretentious. I am not opposed to paying for a good wine with my meal, but any list that carries more than half of the wines in excess of $100 can't really expect people to order a $500-1200 wine for an evening out. An extensive list of wines from $70-150 with a fine selection of more expensive might demonstrate a better opportunity to educate customers palates."

"I'm not sure it's authentically French, but it is inventive and delicious. Everyone at our table got different dishes, and they were each fantastic. They do sauces particularly well. The wine menu is lovely, and I enjoyed the ability to try half glasses of various selections. It was too noisy and hard to talk. They should add some fabric or something to the room to deaden the sounds. The view of the old graveyard is cool if you get the right table."

"Absolutely the best food in Boston! The dishes are perfectly balanced flavors, the ingredients of the highest quality. The wine pairings are brilliant; you will be both satisfied and edified. I loved this chef's food at Veritas and we are so lucky he came to Boston."

"Above, Open Table asked: "Would you recommend Troquet to a friend?". Well, that is exactly what I did, and the friend was not disappointed. In fact, he was very pleased with the whole experience. Chris Campbell met us as host and took us to our table that overlooked the Boston Common. Once we made our food choices (New Zealand Langoustines as appetizers, Roast Suckling Pig for me Asssiette of Lamb for friend), Chris was very helpful in helping us pick out the right bottle. Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful. The food was as I had remembered it to be: Excellent, and nicely presented. All in all we got what we paid for."

"They added $25 to the bill. I asked if service was included. It was not. When the overcharge was pointed out, it was called an "addition error". It is impossible to add $12 in taxes to a bill of $183, and come to $220 in error. This restaurant, while good, is dishonest. The seats are too close together along the wall if one is next to a loud-talker."

"We booked Sat. morning for a Sat. evening 8:30 pm reservation. We had friends from out of town and we wanted a nice restaurant with good food, that took reservations, but was not too noisy so we could catch up. I requested a table by the window. Troquet was perfect and honored the window request! The food was excellent - apps. - beet salad, cauliflower soup, foie gras, entrees - duck, sole, halibut. Dessert was not as stellar, except for the cheese plate. Our friends were wearing jeans and did not feel out of place. Thanks for a memorable evening!!"

"We made reservations at Troquet at 5:30 so we would have plenty of time to make an 8pm show (and still try the desserts we had been recommended!). We needn't have worried. Both our maitre d' and specific server asked if we were going to a show. We had a lovely three course meal with different wine pairings in a relaxed hour and fifteen minutes. If we had wanted to linger with coffee, they would have welcomed us, but we decided to take a walk in the Commons across the street instead. Of course the food was excellent, and the servers did a lovely job walking us through the wine list. But the fact that the kitchen was so tuned into pre-theater dining was a wonderful surprise! My new go-to choice in the theater district"

"Friday night at Troquet. VERY NOISY! Yet it wasn't more thanh half full. Food good (Dover sole), broad sophisticated wine selection. Attentive, but somewhat obsequious service. Overall trying too hard, one can do better in this part of town."

"My food was very good. No question about it. Service very good. There's also no question that unless one has plenty plenty plenty dollars and doesn't need to think about what s/he's spending (are such persons not the target of these restaurants?), absolutely not worth the prices. Expected to leave hungry, did so. Would return on someone else's tab/expense account."

"A beautiful experience right in the theater district, overlooking the park! Fresh churned butter, beautiful and inventive seasonal menu keeps rotating so there are always some new surprises. Spring asparagus (French white and green) with yummy Morel mushrooms, New Zealand langoustines on top of papaya salad were crispy and flavorful, and the halibut main dish with forbidden rice and kafir lime foam spiced just right were amazing. All farm fresh, locally sourced and a great selection of small plates/entrees. We were in a rush and the wait staff totally made it work! Truly impressive wine list and the best part is that they also have some of these great wines by the glass/wine flights, so you can enjoy as much wine and variety as you want."

"Our meal was spectacular. The best butter anywhere in this country. My husband said his soup was the best he'd ever had. Very attentive waitstaff. You need a category above for the best place pre-theater or musical performance. And Troquet is it!"

"Seriously! Go to Troquet & get the wild boar. The wild boar entree was outrageous - my husband had it for dinner, and as much as I loved my lobster entree, I wished he hadn't given me a bite of his. It made me jealous the whole time we were eating! No really, though - Troquet is always great, and this was no exception."

"Overall I found Troquet to be quite undeserving of their reputation. The service was slow and our particular server should not be working in the service industry at all; she had no personality whatsoever.
The food was much too salty. Butter and salt make up for lackluster cooking.
The positives were the view and the wine list was impressive, although their glassware left plenty to be desired. There are much better choices in Boston."

"Excellent food, one of the best anywhere, mixed with perfect service - not too intrusive, but always available when you needed something. Dessert menu is incredible as well. Perfect place, especially if you like fine wine with your meal. We flew into Boston just for this restaurant and to meet some clients, and troquet was perfect. We will be back."

"My husband and I took my son, his girlfriend and one of his BC friends for dinner on Sunday, after attending a concert that my son and his friend performed in at Boston Symphony Hall. We arrived at approximately 5 p.m. and were seated promptly. We all enjoyed amazing appetizers including two orders of the braised Spanish octopus, two duck confit salads and a beet salad. All were scrumptious! For dinner we ordered two orders of the chicken Giannone, one Dover Sole, one Branzino and one Rice-crusted halibut. Again, all of the dinners were delectable! For dessert we split a souffle and a pineapple macaroon napoleon. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience and look forward to more celebrations at Troquet."

"Tiny portions....poor service more centered on regular customers, we were practically ignored...had to wait quite a bit to be seated even though we had a reservation....the place is tired and needs an update. The bar is tiny....and the bartender is not a good one. She did not know how to make some basic cocktails. We would not go back."

"Group of four, following my previous experiences we all got the 5 course meal with wine pairing. As per my previous experiences here, the food was amazing. I can confidently state that the absolute best meals I've ever eaten in my life were at Troquet. It's also one of the few places (that I've been to) where the wine pairings range from good to perfect. If you've never eaten food that was elegantly enhanced by the paired wine, you need to try out this restaurant!
Other valuable notes: great fresh bread, homemade fresh butter, attentive wait staff, and unbelievable food. It is a smaller restaurant, so you'll want to make reservations in advance. But I got our 5 pm Saturday reservation on Friday morning."

"Troquet has one of the best wine lists in Boston with offerings available by the glass. I've never been anywhere else in the world where you could buy a glass of Chateau d'Yquem by the glass (Wine lovers will know what this means!). The food is creative and outstanding. The Cauliflower soup was ridiculously good. The sliced duck breast paired with duck confit was truly amazing, each perfectly cooked."

"Lovely restaurant, professional staff, civilized dining experience, excellent food. My only quibble would be the noise and the need to promote the culture of cozy conversation. I was with a party of 4, on a Friday, 7:30 rez, so the place was hopping. Our table felt 2" too wide for a easy conversation - had to work at listening. Smaller tables would have solved that. Conversation is undervalued in the American restaurant experience in my opinion - and I am an American. Since you've got your "lively bar' experience downstairs, what's to stop you from softening the upstairs abit? Just thoughts from someone who's eaten there twice..but will return."

"Pricey but delicious. I loved sitting by the window and looking at the snow-covered Common. I appreciated that they offer 2 oz and 4 oz pours of wine. Even though I am not a big drinker, I was able to have red with my appetizer and white with the entree. The chocolate souffle was fantastic - rich and gooey. My husband wanted another!"
