"The Alaskan King Crab appetizer was wonderful with caviar on top shows the extra steps this restaurant goes to make items special. The Dover Sole was cooked and presented perfectly. The suggestion of wine to complement our meal was a perfect french wine. The service was attentive but not over intrusive. This will be one of our have to visit spots on our trips to Vail."

"The wait between the dinner and dessert ordering was long, overall the total dinner took too long...I wear hearing aids and the restaurant is so noisy (we were in a booth) that I was really getting stressed out by the wait. The food was fabulous, but I will pass in the future."

"We loved the food at Sweet Basils. Very busy restaurant. Also saw lots of kids so they must have some basic fares on the menu as well. Our waiter must have had a bad night; very little interaction and never a smile, but the waiter for the next table over sounded great; described every dish and recommended a few. We had the scallops, sea bass, and cod. All great!"

"The food at Sweet Basil was amazing! I would definitely like to go back. The only drawback was that they put us in the back, a place where it seemed like they put all the younger couples...almost seemed a little discriminating. My boyfriend had the lamb which he devoured and I had the filet, which I ate until I couldn't force another bite. All the sides paired with the meal complimented our main course to a tee! "The food was decent. We eat at a lot of five-star restaurants and pay comparable prices but at Sweet Basil, the food seemed to be overpriced for the quality received. The beef tenderloin dish was better than the fish and chicken dishes. The service was adequate although the server missed many opportunties to sell drinks. We usually have three cocktails before dinner and a bottle of wine with dinner. However, we were only offered drinks once and finally asked for a second right before the entree was served."

"On our recent trip to Vail we tried to hit all the top rated restaurants. Sweet Basil was the one most recommended and it lived up to the hype! Reservations are tough to come by so be prepared to dine late but the food was fantastic. So many unique dishes like "Marrow Bones" yes it is how it sounds, but amazing. Duck Breast over fois gras ravioli, fantastic! Sweet Basil was definitely the highlight dinner of my trip."

"We dined at many locations (all higher end) during our 7 night stay. For all the hype that Sweet Basil gets, we were disappointed compared to other venues. Our waiter was crabby ( and we saw very little of him), we had a hard time getting a second drink, he brought us 6 oysters (which were luke warm) as opposed to the dozen we had ordered. The Caesar salad was uneventful and my husband's entree was not hot. On the good side, the hostesses and coat girls were friendly and attentive. The cocktails and bartenders were delicious. Our table was beautiful (2 top overlooking the creek). However, overall, not satisfactory."

"our third time dining at sweet basil and we will keep coming back. we had chicken and lamb entrees and both were outstanding. the "truffle lobster mac and cheese" appetizer was interesting. at $20 for a very small bowl, it was light and very different. the name is misleading- be sure to ask your server for a more accurate description before ordering. service was perfect, minus the stereotypic waiter comments."

"if possible Sweet Basil is better than ever. I have never seen a restaurant with the staff so in sinc and helping each other. The appropriately smiling faces and attention to detail yet at a very relaxed atmosphere was amazing. The food is delicious, the wait staff helpful especially in menu selections and the wine staff picked the appropriated wines (not necessarily what i would have chosen) but turned out to be perfect pairings. "This was our 2nd visit and had a great dinner...Nate (our waiter) even "found" an order of fois gras for me after it had been sold out for the night...my husband and the agnolotti "crab mac n cheese" which was great...we shared a salad and then both ordered the 6oz filet. My husband, who only likes his steak rare is often disappointed and was thrilled that it came perfectly prepared. All in all one of our favorite nights out in Vail!"

"Sweet Basil was great as always. I have eaten here many times as well. Celebrated New Years Eve here once as well. Food is always consistent. Highly recommend topping things off with the Hot Sticky Toffee Cake. The only disappointment I had this latest trip was that they would not take a Visa gift card. There is no indication that they will not take gift cards anywhere, and when we asked our waitor he said that the accountant had made the decision to reject them...they will gladly take your Visa credit card though... We talked to the owner but rules are rules and no dice on any concessions."

"Sweet Basil well and truly lived up to the hype. It was a bit on the pricey side but well and truly worth it. The food was the best that we had in Vail (in taste and not carzily huge portions)and the wine list had a good range of wines at each price level. We went on a Sunday night and it still had plenty of atmosphere and we were not in any way rushed.

We would highly recommend it."

"As usual we went to Sweet Basil with high expectations,and it didn't disappoint.We began with a drink at the bar, then moved to our table by the window.Appetizers were exceptional,which included foie gras(with a recomended glass of Sauterns),beef tartar, seared sea scallops,and shrimp&grits.We enjoyed a bottle of Krug Grand Cuvee during appetizers,which was properly chilled and well presented.Memorable entrees over the course of two nights dining included the lamb(excellent),angus filet mignon(outstanding-one of the best),cod with potstickers(good),and pork tenderloin(tender/delicious meat-less creative setup).We had a bottle of Caymus Special Selection with dinner which was well priced.A dessert sampler and French press coffee was perfect."

"Seet Basil is a hot spot in Vail. They have too much business to notice and fix things when they go wrong. My wife and daughter asked the waiter if they could have a vegetable plate. The waiter assured them that they had a great veggie plate. What was served wqas a mushrooom risotto in a bowl. They both ate about 1/4 of the dish and the waiter never noticed to ask what was wrong. Sweet Basil is off my list ther are too many good restaurants in Vail such as Juniper and The Left Bank."

"Food was excellent. Creative menu. Service was so-so. We were seated on time but took 10 minutes for someone to bring menus & water! After we were done with entree a long time passed until we saw our waiter who literally dropped the dessert menu off without saying a word. Never even asked if we wanted coffee. Needless to say, we went elsewhere for dessert. Can also be noisy. But food was delicious. Note that this was mid-week and after New Year's."

"We love the food at Sweet Basil but they have blocked all use of the internet, texting and cell phones. The lack of cell phone use is good since I find this annoying when I am am dining but not being able to text or use an iphone or blackberry to look at sports scores was unacceptable. I probably would not dine at this restaurant again due to that change. A major football game was on and I could not periodically check the scores or text a friend to get an update unless I stood outside in 10 degree temperatures. The waiter told us the owners of Sweet Basil had done this on purpose and he had many complaints about the same issue."

"My husband & I celebrated our 10th anniversary the day after Thanksgiving. The staff went over & above to make our evening special, from custom menus, a table by the window & even a Happy Anniversary greeting with our dessert. Our expectations were high from what we had heard about Sweet Basil - They were met & surpassed!"

"This used to be our favorite restaurant in Vail and we have been 20+ times. I have even entertained tables of 20 or more. However, each time I return the front of house (hostess) and service has gotten worse. 10 days notice that I wanted a specific table (our anniversary) was ignored and passed over as nothing by the innatentive hostess. The waiter knew little of the day's menu and was intrusive after we chose an expensive wine (I have noted that at Sweet Basil if you want their attention order $$$$ wine). Overall, the place just dissapoints now. Will no longer be our Vail special."
