"Outstanding food and service. Server and chef were welcoming to adjusting items to meet dietary requirements. Food was delicious and service was top-notch."

"I wish I could rate Alloro at Excellent (or 4 1/2 ) stars as, while maybe not quite outstanding, it's better than very good. Had the traditional/revisited eggplant parmegian appetizer and veal ragu w/fettuccine entree--both excellent. Have been to Alloro 3 times in past year and it's very consistent. Service also was excellent."

"Inviting and unpretentious, Alloro is a culinary gem hidden in a seemingly ordinary guise. It was really lovely to gaze out at the street on a sunny day, with trees embanking the couple of outside tables.Food is beyond expectation. The chef mixes flavors together in magical ways. Presentation is precious as well. The salads were huge, the entrees small, but that's best anyway. Probably because it was Mothers' Day, it didn't rate 5 stars, since the service was inconsistent. However, speaking for each of us at the table, we will definitely come again."

"Alloro has a unique take on Italian food. Often 'unique' can mean weird and disappointing but in this case it's a compliment. Very refined and thoughtful flavor combinations make it a special place that should be better known."

"Superb food in a quiet assuming neighbourhood setting. Wonderful service too, warm, knowledgeable and unpretentious. For those who can't stand the preening cacophony of so many UES Italians, you will cherish this find!"

"Delicious food, great service, very small dining-room so it is a little bit loud. We were celebrating our daughter and her fiance's engagement. Our waiter brought us limoncello after the meal, which was a lovely gesture."

"The new Spring menu at Alloro is outstanding. Very inventive, intriguing (makes it hard to decide)and there is something for everyone. We had a picky eater in our group and he had difficulty deciding on his entree. The service team at Alloro is exceptional as well. They work seamlessly together, are very welcoming and client focused, and are very attentive. Alloro is one of those restaurants that works no matter what - celebration, quiet intimate meal, looking for a special food experience, etc. Our favorite reason to be on the UES (up from Chelsea) is Alloro. Excellent !!!"

"Went to Alloro for a celebratory dinner. Nice cozy space. Interesting, if small, menu. Was looking forward to a delicious meal. The ginger- tinged pea soup was quite lovely. The fish was surprisingly flat - and my friend thought the fish was "off" and sent it back. The veal was tasty but very fatty. The 4 courses for $40 dinner could be a great value if the food were better. By 10 pm the restaurant was pretty cleared out and we were the last diners. Felt a little triste."

"Eggplant parm app was served two ways: classic and deconstructed. It was not just a formal exercise, it was delicious. The veal entree was deeply satisfying."

"All the ingredients are great quality - from the olives, which were not in oil and were the best-tasting I have had, to the home-made pastas, and the monk fish which sounded very simple was outstanding. The owner is a huge presence and really cares that you're everything is to your liking. He is really sweet and genuine - we have not had this kind of personal service often. A great intimate neighborhood restaurant even when you're coming from out of the neighborhood as we did! We will be back."

"Hadn't been back in quite a while and very glad to have returned. The four of us took advantage of their 4 for $40 menu and nobody left anything on any plate. Just delicious. Of course 2 bottles of $75 wine threw off the "reasonable dinner" but the wine was also great. Will certainly return but will have to be more judicious in choosing wine when ordering off the regular menu (which looked a tad steep). Gina and Salvatore are great hosts and the glass of Lemoncello at the end was a welcome treat."

"The only reason the food didn't get 5 stars was dessert, whose menu was disappointing enough to prevent me from ordering (something truly rare). Otherwise, the food was superb and the service was even better (if at all possible)."

"We were a bit disappointed with the food. Our first course, one soup and one cheese plate, we're good, however the pasta dishes were nothing special. The presentation and ingredients were creative, but sadly the final product just didn't taste delicious. We passed on dessert..and not to save calories. The choices offered had unusual combinations of flavors that didn't seem to belong together. This place has potential to be quite good, but missed the mark."

"We were a group of 5 women who were reunited after a year. I recommended Alloro because my friend wanted to try a New York's Upper East Side neighborhood gem Italian restaurant that offered great pasta dishes. Among many, this restaurant was the most memorable to me; I remembered a fresh pasta dish that I had several years back. It turned out that my friends were not very hungry and busy talking. But we enjoyed good wine, shared delicious appetizers, and tasted each other's great pasta dishes. I can't thank enough how understanding and accommodating the restaurant's staffs were. It was like they opened their house and let us have a good time. Do yourself a favor and visit their website. What you see there is what you get."

"The place is puzzling. The service was delightful and the decor is fine, but the food is strange. Plus, it's very expensive for what you get. Disappointing."

"As I approach the resturant the night of the first snow storm of February 2013 I thought to myself what will the restuarant look like inside. To my surprise it was what imagined!! I experienced an intimate surrounding with great service and vibrant faces. The food was excellent with perfect portion size. The Salvatore’s Salad appetizer was refreshing; the Linguine con bottarga di muggine, briciole di pane, buccie d’arance candite, crema di cavolfiori entree was great, and the Housemade Lemon Sorbetto dessert was yummy. This was a wonderful italian experience... so come!!!"

"We had salads and pasta dishes at our table. The salads promised to be unsusal and were quite ordinary with weird ingredients. The pastas were mediocre at best. There are much better restaurants in this price range in the neighborhood. The service was very friendly And the atmosphere inviting. But the food was very disappointing."

"This time, the food was disappointing -- it seemed as if the chef was trying to hard, putting too many different ingredients into a single dish. In previous visits, we'd found the food to be much better balanced and more sophisticated."

"We and another couple went to Alloro because of Restaurant Week and the more affordable price. We traveled to NYC from Westchester to have this experience. We were disappointed. The menu was limited and, although the dishes were tasty, the portions were small. Our waitress was competent but the hostess was rude and attempted to rush us by bringing our coats into a dining area with tight seating area (we had not asked for them and were finishing desert and coffee at the time. We will not return."

"Excellent all around, with only 1 fault. The staff rushed us out after 2 hours, actually asking to bring our coats to us, even though we still had wine in our glasses and coffee in our cups, and we were dining a la carte with a nice bottle of wine, not using the restaurant week special menu."

"Had a birthday dinner for a relative who enjoyed it very much. Atmosphere is calm and welcoming as are the waiters. The food was very good from appetizers thru desserts. We would come back again for sure. Wondering WHY don't I get points for making Reservation thru Open Table???"
