"This was my first time visiting this restaurant. I was superbly greeted and shown to my table alongside the windows. My server had an expert knowledge of the menu and was very helpful in picking my selections. I started out with the French bread with roasted garlic and butter (oh, to die for!!!). Then moved on to my first course, French Onion Soup (totally awesome. Fpr the main, I'd ordered the pepper crusted steak, but found it to be a bit too spicy. I was able to send it back and switch it with the scallops dish; It was simply delicious!!! To round off my hearty meal, the famous Creme Brulee (gasp). Needless to say, the train ride home was a happy and full one. I will most definitely visiting Bistro 110 again!!!"

"I went to Bistro 110 on the groupon and had a great experience. I had the goat cheese and endive salad, followed by the crepes--yum! The food was fantastic, service was great and very prompt, and the location is fantastic for the streeterville professional."

"A beautiful spot, window view of Water Tower, lovely place for special treat! And the food! Quiche Lorraine is worth the trip to Chicago, cannot wait to return. Service was excellent, dessert, the best. I shall always remember my visit there."

"I was a little surprised, as I thought the meals would be more flavorful. I got the Julia Child's half roasted duck with peaches, and it was pretty well cooked and flavorful, but I expected it to have more seasoning or sauce and be even more flavorful. It was good, but kind of 'ho-hum'. Also, the pommes frites were the only other item on this $26 plate, and they filled half the plate and were flavorless...I pretty much can eat any kind of potato and don't worry too much about calories but this time around I thought they were wasted calories so I left them alone. So I was disappointed in that and would have hoped for some kind of nice vegetables to round out the plate. The other meal ordered was the chicken pot pie, and it was tasty."

"Bistro 110 is always extremely accommodating, especially to families with children. We had another great dining experience there, thanks to the staff's generosity and consideration of our son's food allergies. The staff couldn't have been nicer, and the chef visited our table and was very interested in our concerns and extremely reassuring. The restaurant is very welcoming to families, and is a great treasure right in the midst of the shopping and activity of North Michigan Ave. We enjoy returning to Bistro 110 over and over again."

"Some of the food was good enough at reasonable prices to go back to the restaurant a second time. We had a mixed experience.
On the positive side:
+ The restaurant is neat and clean with an open design. We felt comfortable.
+ The soups, french onion and the potato leek were well above average.
+ The mussels in wine sauce were well above average. Must have been two dozen mussels, so plan to share. I don't understand serving french fries with the dish.
+ The rainbow trout was excellent, served on a bed of green beans. Just a bit heavy on the oil or butter.
+ The waiter was attentive without being obtrusive.
The negatives:
- The do use canned peaches on the duck!
- The duck dish was so over cooked my wife sent it back."

"We simply enjoy the food and great service. The evening hostess needs to know that 2 people CAN sit at a 4 top. This is especially important at the end of a long work day. Even more important when the dining room is partially full. People want to stretch out some when it's possible."

"The music during brunch is delightful! We really enjoy getting the roasted head of garlic with the warm bread to start. "The food is always wonderful at Bistro 110. Their roasted garlic spread is to die for, and the main courses are delicious. The service was great - I almost gave it 5 stars, because she was very helpful with the menu and gave her recommendations, however it took a noticably long time to get our appetizers, so we were getting impatient early on. The wait was worth it though!"

"B110 seems to have an identity crisis...French w/ New Orleanian flair, but the decor/atmosphere is white-bread touristy Michigan Ave. Servers were attentive, but I was not impressed by the food, aside from the tasty baked garlic w/ baguette. The Artichoke with Brie was overly mustardy & disappointing. Frites/Onion Strings were huge, and we felt wasteful leaving them as they wouldn't reheat well. It would be great to see a half portion. Entrees were large, but I wish that attention had been paid to quality. The New Orleans Frittata was laughable--unspiced, no flair, hardly Creole. Chicken Crepes were more like enchiladas--too much cheese & spiked with fatty, gristly bacon. Left full but disappointed, given all the competing brunch spots"

"I've been there several times and always enjoy it. Sunday at 1PM there was a Dixieland Jazz combo in the dining room with the open kitchen. Nice, but too loud. They should have asked if we wanted the loud room. Good food at reasonable prices, especially for the location. I'll be back! Used Groupon and no issues at all. Always have excellent service."

"The 110 steak was horrible. Escargot was okay, the duck was excellent, the bread with roasted garlic was good - drinks were weak and the chocoalte cake was mediocre.

The major issue is that the seating was very cramped and the hostess kept trying to seat another party next to us, which was already really cramped already - when there was plenty of other seating elsewhere!"

"The food was AMAZING!! Our waiter was very nice and gave us several recommendations for both wine and food. I was having a hard time deciding between the lamb and braised ribs....he recommended the lamb and it was incredible!! My friend wanted to order the duck but they did not have it anymore (and it was barely 8)-I bet that was delicious too. My other friend ordered the salmon. I would recommend the lamb to anyone wanting an authentic French dish! The creme brulee was also very very good. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant!"

"Atmosphere: Loud and obnoxious group close to us. Service: Rushed, inattentive, it took a while to get drinks. Admittedly, the food did not take long to arrive. The server we started with was not the one we finished with, he disappeared half way through. Food: I had the mushroom ravioli, my husband the rack of lamb. It was an insult to us that the chef thought the only food that Americans may appreciate is "sugary" food. There were probably a few good teaspoons of sugar in my ravioli sauce, and my husband's vegetables were sweetened. The lamb was mostly fat. Add a couple of mediocre endive salads and two overpriced glasses of wine (for what they were), and the meal was not worth $92. They are banking on Mich Ave. Avoid the tourist trap!"

"We had a great experience. The food was delicious and the kids' portions were quite large. Service was also excellent. We are most appreciative, however, of Bistro 110's commitment to serving people with food allergies safely. My son had a wonderful dining experience and we felt absolutely assured that his food was being prepared with his allergies in mind. "We went there for restaurant week and the pre-fixe brunch was outstanding. One of the best Bloody Marys ever. Our waiter was superb. They also had a New Orleans style jazz ensemble that added a lively atmosphere. If you like, ask for a table in the area overlooking the street to take in the horse-drawn carriages going up and down the street."

"I went here on a Saturday night during Chicago Restaurant Week. Every dish (both mine and my date's) was memorable from the whole roasted garlic that comes with the bread to the mushroom ravioli, wine, and chocolate toffee cake and creme brulee desserts. Service was friendly and attentive. The range of clientele is refreshing. It's sophisticated but without any snobbery. There was a small group of thritysomethings, a father-daughter combo, and a couple in their 40s chatting with a couple beside them in their 70s (love a mature man in a polished suit--best dressed in the house!). We passed an unobtrusive small family with two children on our way out. Made for a pleasant evening."

"Visited for Restaurant Week 2010. We both ordered the escargot appetizer; my first time trying snails...delicious. Texture reminded me of portabello mushrooms. I had the mushroom ravioli, and my gf ordered the salmon. We shared, of course. My ravioli port sauce was AMAZING. The salmon had a nice char/crust on the edges with a moist, even cook throughout. The roasted vegetables with the salmon were very smoky...clearly wood-fired. Desert was chocolate cake or creme brulee; we shared. Creme brulee was silky and delicious, and the cake was dense with a flavorful toffee syrup. Only criticism: the whipped cream with the cake tasted "store bought". Wine list was extensive, but a bit pricey for my pocket."

"Bistro 110 has lost its charm. Been a decade since I dined there last. Waitress was diffident, especially after we asked for the restaurant week menu. Then she asked us if we had a Groupon coupon. Took about 20 minutes for us to receive our drinks and breakbasket. Took as long to bring out our food. The creme brulee that we received were no topped with fruit that other diners, perhaps the non-restaurant-week diners, received. Very inattentive service. Salmon was undercooked. Had great memories and expectations which were not matched. Really disappointing. Service just left a bad taste."

"The food was excellent and our service was great. My sister and I went for Chicago restaurant week. She had the endive salad, and the steak frites. I had the french onion soup and the mushroom ravioli. We both had the creme brulee for dessert. The endive salad was ok not great. The french onion soup was good but I would have prefered it a little hotter. Both of our entrees were delicious. The sauce on the mushroom ravioli was a little heavy for my taste but fantastic nontheless. We also shared a side of the onion strings which were amazing. We both got the creme brulee for dessert and it was delicous. I love eating creme brulee when you can see the real vanilla bean in the custard part of the dish. Definitely recommmend!"

"2 of the 4 in our party were disappointed in their food. In both cases, the meat was overcooked. This was not the case other times we ate at Bistro 110, when we had been very happy with the food. They also ran out of several items. It was Valentine's weekend and they were very crowded, so perhaps this explains the problems. Desserts were wonderful, especially the chocolate mousse."

"I enjoyed my dining experience. I was very very pleased with the service as well as the food. The escargot I felt maybe had a tad too much olive oil, but was good. The salamon which is wild I totally appreciate was moist and very favorful as well as the vegetables serve with. The vegetables which included parsnip, fennel, and squash was as tasty, prepared and cooked just perfect, and because of the wood the food smelled as good as it taste. The mussels ordered were very good as well. I was pleasantly surprised, this was not a place that over did things to be french but did what it does very well. The Chocolate cake is to absolutely die for. Can not wait to go back and have the french onion soup, as I have been warned its very very good."

"It was very enjoyable. Had brunch here with a groupon. Would have been a very pricey meal without the groupon so not sure if I would go back without one, but considering the area it is in you have to expect those prices. "Everything was perfect, including our son's experience (he has multiple life threatening food allergies and doesn't get to eat out very much). The kicker was when the chef brought out, just for him, a bowl of special fleur de lis salt - my six year old didn't even know what it was, he just knows that he loves salt! The waiter was very experienced with wine (suggestions for my husband and I). We loved it. Thank you! Can you open a NJ/NY location???????????"

"The food was was excellent. The concerns were the soup was brought to the table lukewarm and without a soupspoon. There was no pepper on the table and we were not offered fresh ground pepper for the salad.
We were handed a teaspoon for the soup with no explanation. When we raised this question we were brought hot soup (after quite a wait) and were asked to forgive the temporary shortage of soup spoons. The ambience was lovely and the server was friendly. The only other issue was the men's room had no paper towels (this was about 8 PM on a Saturday). I had waited for years to eat at Bistro 110 and had planned to make it an exceptional experience for my husband. It would have been nice if there hadn't been these very correctible problems."

"Four of us enjoyed a good meal at Bistro 110. I will start by saying that the Creme Brulee was excellent. The french onion soup was also quiet good. The salmon and roasted vegetables was a bit too dry, not terribly dry, but maybe I'm used to a bit more moist, or if one has an entire dry meal to have some type of moist accompaniment to go along. My friend said her steak was delicious. The restaurant was noisy, but that's something we did not mind at all. Service was OK, I'm not satisfied as to how the server would reach out over our shoulders to grab a plate or a glass, I've seen servers go around the seated guest before, not over. Unless you reserve a booth, expect to be seated very close to one another."

"The food was wonderful and the service outstanding. Unfortunately the musician, who was very good, played too loud and overpowered the meal. I met friends for brunch and found it impossible to chat because the music was so loud, the volume may have been appropriate for dinner or a club but not brunch with friends.
I will try again, the garlic and bread is reason alone to return but not when there is a musician playing."

"My wife and I had an amazing time at the Jazz brunch this Valentine's day. After spending way too much money the night before on a less than stellar meal, we were very pleased with the friendly staff and great food. The jazz band was very fun and authentic. "Visited Bistro 110 on Valentines Day for brunch. Staff appeared to be shocked that restaurant was crowded and later discovered entire restaurant was unprepared for the rush that occurred. Restaurant was empty, yet all of the parties with reservations weren't seated. Food was average, valet was a nightmare, took over 30 min to retrieve car.

On the positive side our waitor was fantastic albeit overworked and the band that plays on Sundays for brunch was great.

Overall I would not come here again."

"The good was great. I was expecting to leave hungry as with most French restaurants, but both my wife and myself could not finish our dinners, and I have a healty appetite. While it was not a cheap place to eat, the bill was less than I expected. We went for Valentine's Day, not a secluded spot but we were not bothered by any other customers and were able to have a conversation. I do not like chicken and only eat it because my wife likes it. I ordered the NY strip wood burning stove steak with the cognac sauce. It was good but I tried my wife's wood burning stove chicken and it was delicious and that is what I will be ordering the next time we visit Bistro 110."

"I've been to Bistro 110 about 4 times over the past 8 years, and I was disappointed this trip. The roast duck with peaches was bland, with what could easily have been del monte canned peaches, and was served with french fries, and that's it. They also served the mussels appetizer with french fries, which don't soak up any juices, they ought to know. My guest's duck shepherd's pie was just duck with mashed potatoes on top, no vegetables, and crazy salty. The first few bites were good, but there was no depth. Two of our first choices were sold out that night (at 7:30), so perhaps it could have been better, but I probably won't go back."

"I thought it would be big and impersonal, but it was actually festive and the waitstaff was mostly attentive. Waiter was very good, coffee guy was a little lacking. We asked for a table away from the Jazz brunch, so we could have an important conversation with little interruption and it worked great. The only disappointment on the menu was that, despite the fact that we were there for Sunday Brunch, it was impossible to get scrambled eggs. "We only do poached," we were told. It's all very New Orleans style food: delicious but hard to find anything simple if your tastes are not for the heavily sauced and spiced, which was the case with some in our party.
Overall, however, a very nice brunch experience."

"Haven't been here for a couple of years. I remember having had better meals. Food was only ok. The roast galic is always a fun way to start the meal. Pizza was a good starter. Duck Breast was dry, had to ask for more peach sauce. Scallop dish was good but a bit to salty. Not what I remembered."

"I went on a Monday, so perhaps the kitchen wasn't in top form, but for bistro food, I can think of 3 places in town with MUCH better fare. None of it was bad, but it certainly wasn't memorable. Service was inconsistent.
Our waiter delivered our soup of the day, saying "Soup des jour." When a waiter at a French bistro can't even pronounce something so basic, it gives me pause.
A diner next to us had serious problems. At one point the manager came over and comped his entire meal. But her apology seemed insincere - like she'd done it many times before.
Overall, the restaurant seemed to show it's age. It just seemed... tired."

"Great place, awesome location. If your doing some Sunday shopping, get a reservation for brunch, never shop on an empty stomach! Walk out right on Michigan Ave by the water tower. The food was great, has a cajun styling to the menu, my wife and I shared a couple plates, crab cake and eggs benedict, both were excellent and the creme brulee was perfect. It is a bit pricey for dinner, (we peeked at the menu) but that is to be expected in that location. Brunch was resonable, for three people it came to $56, so not a pocket book breaker."

"French Onion Soup was excellent. Served hot with lots of cheese. Almond trout also good. Quiche Lorraine excellent - the inside was like custard. Service excellent - we used a Groupon and they were very accomodating - tried to "sell" the restaurant while serving with information about the February beer month and specials.

Ambiance just OK, although we had lunch not dinner."

"Probably the worst "french" (and i use that term loosely) restaurant I have ever been to. Pizza and pasta at a french restaurant? i should have known better. 1/2 hour before we saw a drink. 45 minutes before we got any food and it all came at once. salad, soup, dinner. at 7pm they were out of 2 of the only french things they have on their menu. In place of pate, he actually offered us PIZZA. It wasn't crowded and the service was horrible. It is a tourist trap and locals should avoid this place at all costs. Very pricey for low quality food."

"The food was very tasty & our server was great. It's a large restaurant, so it doesn't have a romantic feel, but the atmosphere is fine. We had 9pm reservations & had to wait 15 minutes to get seated. I had this strawberry cocktail, which was delicious. For dinner, I had french onion soup & salmon w/ wood roasted veggies & my boyfriend had a salad & wood roasted chicken and veggies, & we really liked our food. My only major negative is that they were out of about 5 things on their menu, including the roasted half duck w/ peaches, which the waiter recommended to me, I ordered, then was told they were out of, and I was disappointed. I'd love to go back to try the duck, but don't want to risk going back & learn they are out of half their menu!"

"We were seated immediately, but then before our appetizers arrived a large table for over 20 people was seated next to us. We only had a party of 3, so I had to move to our empty fourth chair in order to not be bumped by 3 other chairs from this group. The table was setup with 3 chairs almost touching mine. The waiter took awhile to return to take our order, so we had to ask for him, and my top two entree choices they were out of for the evening. I ordered an entree, and after having our appetizer and waiting awhile, I was told my third choice they were now out of as well. I was really excited to try Bistro 110, and took mom and her friend who were in town visiting. I couldnt order any of my top 3 choices, the service was just ok."

"I went with one of my close friends, she nor I had never been to a French Restaurant in Chicago, we have in other cities. It was fantastic! It wasn't as expensive as I assumed it would be. Very reasonably priced. I came home that night telling my husband about it and encouraging him that we need to go back as a couple. I had the wood roasted salmon and a reisling wine, it was great. I want to try one of their salads next time. One thing I didn't like was, it was a Saturday night, we had a 7:30 reservation but for some reason they were "out" of many items on the menu...that didn't make sense. Our Heisha was very pleasant. Other than that, it was a great experience."

"The service was truly awful. The waiter pacing was way off. He did not bring the usual bread and garlic spread until after the second round when he "noticed" we did not have it. It would have interfered with dinner had the pace not been so bad. He attempted to steer us to the two most expensive Pinot Noirs on the menu. He asked for our food order before even serving the first round of cocktails. Then there were unconscionable waits between courses, and to top it off, after we had finished - waiting for our check. Our general sense is that the place is riding on its location and past reputation and has become a tourist trap. It certainly does not merit its currently good reviews in Zagats and a few other places. I won't go back."

"The hostess was a bit cool but I think inexperienced. The ambiance is bright & lively. Our server was very energetic and informative, but not pushy. We ordered county pate to split, two onion soup, and cassoulet to split. The pate was awesome and it was served with mixed greens, with a traditional vinaigrette and cornichons. The soup was traditional and was very good. The cassoulet was a good portion, certainly enough to split. The sausage was tasty and the duck leg was cooked until it gently fell apart...very yummy. The sauce had more tomato than I was accustomed to but it was very good. I ordered a cocktail, well priced. But the wine list was severely over priced and wines by the glass were so!! over priced."

"My wife and I dined at Bistro 110 with our young daughters for New Year's Eve dinner. We were looking for a fine dining restaurant close to our hotel that would be able to accomodate our kids. We wanted it to be fun for all of us. The entire experience exceeded our expectations. The food was outstanding and the service exceptional. The kids menu was perfect -- even a kids beef tenderloin. I would recommend it to anyone and we will return for sure --with or without our kids. It is no surprise it has been there for a long time."

"My family had a great dinner at Bistro 110 the week between Christmas and New Years. All of us had different entrees and all were presented stylishly. I had the Martha Stewart Duck with Peaches and it was delicious. My spouse had the scallops and he said they were seasoned perfectly and very tender. My brother had a vegitarian entree, the pasta with marinara and pesto, and he said it was both beautiful and delicious. Our 9 year old nephew was with us and he enjoyed it as well."

"We've been here many times and the Bistro never disappoints. My only regret is that they were out of the Christmas pheasant. But the boar chops and Julia Child duck were both delicious, the service was very attentive, the holiday drink selections were creative and the entire dining experience capped off a wonderful Holiday week."

"Nice Christmas Eve dinner. Good holiday feel. Standard menu + interesting traditional holiday menu. We had two vegetarians and a vegan in our party of five. The server was informed prior to our arrival (I mentioned it within our reservation) and made the veggies feel at home. Will definitely go back."

"As visitors from California, we booked our party of nine based on a recommendation from a local. Part of our five-day visit to the great city of Chicago included eating at some of the city's most highly recommended eateries (in all price ranges). Unfortunately, I would not recommend Bistro 110 to anyone.

Personally, I found the food quite average in quality, dull in taste and overpriced. Service was basic. Cocktails were weak (especially when compared with the excellent Green Mill--bar, not restaurant). I don't mind expensive meals if the cuisine is memorable, ambiance remarkable and service authentically friendly and sincere. I suppose if the price was half as much, I might've given this restaurant a "good" rather than a "fair" rating."

"Fall-off in quality from many previous visits since 1987. French Onion soup cannot compare to previous versions, and service - although good - did not compare to previous standards of Very Good to Excellent.
Lamb on bed of couscous was excellent, but that was the only one of our four main dishes that could be characterized as excellent.
And when you go to Bistro 110, a Chicago institution, you go expecting Excellent, not merely Good-to-Very Good."

"We were a group of eight, having an early dinner before an 8 p.m. show. The restaurant was crowded but our reserved table was ready. The waitress was quite friendly and very knowledgable about the menu. The food was very good. I had duck Julia Child style and it was cooked perfectly. The frites are delicious. I ate and ate and ate and still brought home enough duck to make a very yummy omelette the next day. Bonus! My husband's cassoulet was perfect too. No one else complained about their food, and some brought home large portions of their steak au poivre, the meat served was so generous. I'd definitely recommend Bistro 110."

"Our reservation was for 7pm on Sat Dec 5. Granted a holiday weekend but we waited for 40 minutes after a couple of aborted attempts to seat us. A nice table was available by the window that would have been ideal but we were told they were waiting for a table nearby to leave so they could put the two together for another party (likely with a later reservation than ours!). Apologies were offered but the missed reservation times seemed the norm. Another group with a 6:30pm reservation was still waiting when we arrived and waited another 1/2 hour before being seated. Once seated, the food was so-so. I had the stuffed veal which was mostly fat. An escargot was sub-par. Our waitress was good but couldn't make up for the rest."

"French is a fav cuisine... Bistro 110 had always been great for French comfort food... not so on this outing... ordered specials for Xmas.... soup ok... entrees a disappointment... the stuffed veal breast was horrible- all fat- no meat- sent it back for basic chicken. Salmon was prepared beautifully- Trout was just okay - the bed of green beans better than fish-Dessert: Wild berries with ice cream - small portion- but tasty-Highlight of evening was the chocolate cake... Always great! I would go again, but after the holidays when the kitchen is paying more attention to what they are serving. The wait service was below par due to the rush of holiday diners."

"This is one of my favorite spots in Chicago. The food is always excellent and cooked to perfection. The menu is just the right size, with an excellent balance of items to choose from. The wine list is also extensive, with many delicious French wines to choose from. The staff is very friendly and attentive, even when it is extremely busy. At peak times it can be a bit crowded, but it never feels cramped. You will definitely want to make a reservation, however, as it does get very busy with long waits. I will definitely go back, probably multiple times."

"I have bee to Bistro 110 many times. This time I was entertaining a group... they sat us out in the outter area rather than in the main dining room. Very cold. We complained many times but they were unable to do anything... would not even close the door to the reception area where people were entering and bringing cold air in with them. Throughout the entire meal cold drafts were coming in... uncomfortably cold so could not enjoy the meal."

"Went there for Thanksgiving with an 8:00 reservation. We were sat promptly and greeted with smiles from the host staff, busser and server (Rob I believe). The service throughout was prompt and helpful. We had the Pix Fixe dinner for $32 each. Ineradicable amounts of food that was prepared wonderfully.
This was the fifth or sixth time I have dined B110 and it is always constantly well done. Highly recommend!
Dinner for two splitting one appetizer, two entrees and split a desert with three beverages each is about $125 including tax and tip."
