"Had a great meal to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary. The Bernards Inn went out of their way to make this special for my wife and I and it was much appreciated."

"We choose the Bernards Inn to celebrate my birthday and had a wonderful evening. Everything we had was delicious including the signature cocktails and wine selected for us by the sommelier. Between the two of us, we had: Porcini Ravioli, Grilled Octopus, Roasted Beets, Maine Lobster, Tilefish and Crème Brulee. Every dish was presented beautifully and tasted even better. The service was excellent but a little rushed. The wine list was extensive and the sommelier did an excellent job selecting the perfect wine for us. We could not stop talking about how great the food was! It was an expensive evening, but well worth it. A great place for a special occasion."

"A great evening. Went there for my wife's birthday and they did a great job. We went early(630) and it was not crowded until about 8:00pm. We had the tasting menu and it was very well done. We liked the whole menu. It was great."

"We came to quietly celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary ! Because I made the reservation online, I had no way to ask for seating in the front dining room, where we have enjoyed our time before. When we arrived, we were escorted to the back dining room to a table for two banquette style table. Both my husband and I were disappointed, him more than me. I immediately asked the hostess if there might be a table up front. She agreed to check for us, returning saying she had a table one level down from the piano, which we have thoroughly enjoyed in the past.
We were taken to a spacious table by a window and though all but one of the tables was occupied, the room was very comfortable with minimal noise. Our lovely evening unfolded from there."

"Amazing meal/experience. It was my wife's birthday and the Bernards Inn crew made her feel very special (including a special birthday dessert). We brought our 4yo daughter too, and the chef made her a special dish. Excellent all around!"

"This was our 45th wedding anniversary and we picked the Bernards Inn for dinner because it always has great food, a wine list with lots of options and the dining rooms having great ambiance. We were not disappointed. We both enjoyed the Black Bass with oyster escabeche. It was outstanding, crisp on the outside yet moist and flaky inside. My appetizer of fois gras was also very good. My wife's roasted beet salad with duck confit was also excellent."

"We were 2 couples and both ladies were celebrating birthdays. The service was wonderful and everyone made both of us feel very special. All of the food was fantastic and we truly had an amazing birthday dinner. The piano bar area can get a bit noisy and we'd asked in advance to be seated as far away as possible. We were given a wonderful table where we could hear the music, but not the bar noise. The menu had a great variety to choose from and the Alaskan Halibut was one of the best fish dishes I've had in a long time. The lobster bisque and rack of lamb also got rave reviews from my dining companions. Getting a birthday card signed by the staff was a lovely way to end the evening."

"Booked table for a dinner with a VIP client. Seating and bar service was excellent with a good wine list, good wine-by-glass selections and some distinctive speciality cocktails. Pairings menu was inspiried but very pricey; to the chef's credit, nearly all of the tasting menue items were available a la carte.
Entrees were presented in a very eye-catching way and construction and thinking around the dish was peerless. My salmon dish was prepared exactly as asked; the fiddle head ferns and onions were a startling accompanment. Holandaise sauce, which can be all over the map in even fine resturants, was the best I have ever had.
Minor problem with bill was cleared up quickly, with appologies, and now fuss. A geat special occasion find."

"Solid food in a long time classic restaurant. The room is, fortunately, well insulated from the loud happening scene at the Inn's bar. Staff is gracious, attentive and well trained. A few odd things, like LCD candles (the harsh white light detracts from the ambiance), and adding hazelnuts and truffle oil to an otherwise delightfully light asparagus soup. The room feels a bit dated and could use some modernization, even if it keeps with the traditional motif. Wine selections are quite good and the sommelier is especially helpful and well informed."

"Absolutely wonderful! The only 1 downside, was that I wrote down that it was my fiancé's birthday on our reservation, and nothing was even mentioned. I found this unusual for such a high end restaurant."

"I always love this place, but have to say the last two dinners I have had here have been just fair. I am not sure if they have changed chefs for if it is just the Winter Menu that isn't thrilling me. First time I had the short-rib with lobster entree...this time I had the rabbit with a pistacio filling. Both were a bit of a disappointment. Usually this place is always top knotch for me. I have reservations for Easter and I hope with the Spring menu I will be happier."

"The Benards Inn continues to offer an excellent experience with many great choices of food and wine. I was able to enjoy an affordable Wente Chardonnay for only $ 40 with our meal. The food quality is very high and portions are not small like other gourmet meals. Terri Baldwin knows fine wine and the staff offer top notch service with no attitude. No a cheap place but for those of you who enjoy fine dining this is always a great place to visit. If you haven't been here in a while now is the time to return."

"We would love to give this place a higher rating, brcause the food is so very good. But we were disappointed in the service. The staff was very friendly and helpful, but failed to notice that my husband had not received the first of the appetizers he had ordered from the tasting menu. I think we waited over half an hour. We also waited a long time for our dessert. The two of us were there for almost three hours, not by choice.
The chairs were uncomfortable. I kept moving around, trying to find a comfortable position. It didn't bother my husband that much, but the next day, his back was stiff.
We will go again, but not for a long while."

"This was disappointing even for a restaurant at half the price of Bernards Inn. My friend's lobster was way overcooked and rubbery. My salad was mostly stems vs. greens, and the dressing was some other vinaigrette, not the orange poppy listed on the menu. The waitress was pleasant enough, but had no suggestions even when we asked, and didn't know about the dishes, had never tasted them so couldn't tell us what to expect. For an establishment that wants to be considered upscale (and charges very upscale prices - $92 lunch for 2)... they have some serious work to do. I won't be back."

"Wow. I took my girlfriend here after she got a new job and this place was fantastic. First of all, have I mentioned the *61 page* wine list? The service, the food, the ambience were all top of the line. This is a fantastic place for special occasions. Highly recommended. It is *not* inexpensive. Be prepared to spend. It is well worth it."

"Absolutely top notch. Fine dining to the definition. With a traditional look, they serve modern cuisine and they do not skimp like other fine dining establishments. You will leave full with a new appreciation of food. This place is phenomenal. Not cheap, but that is to be expected at such a place."

"My wife and I were there for Valentine's day. I had the siroin steak and she had the stuffed lobster. My steak was very was good , the lobster was atrocius. IT was supposed to be stuffed with crabmet and artichoke which was invisible. Our previous experiences at the Inn were very good, that's why we wnated to go on this special night. We did not make a fuss that night, but we called the next day to inform them and unfortunaltey nothing was done. FOr the price we paid tht night for one drinlk and dinner, we could have eaten and two good restaurants. may bw the lsst time at he Bernards Inn"

"Went to the Inn for Valentines Day with my wife and it was wonderful. Not the usual price fixe deal where you get a choice of two. Their Vday menu was more extensive than most places regular menus. The service was very good as always. It's definitely not cheap but worth the extra dough for special occasions. You know you are getting something for your money; something unforgettable."

"The Bernards Inn has beocme our special place for our anniversaries. We are too middle class to dine there regularlly. The food, ambiance, and impeccable service are beyond anything else we've ever experienced in our years of dining in New Jersey. You are as close to perfection as any establishment can be."

"Upon entering the Bernards Inn you step back in time to a more colonial era in design and atmosphere. the fact that they have rooms to stay in at the INN and an active bar and good restaurant combine to make this destination well worth the visit."
