"Welcome to Espetus Churrascaria!"
The flavors of Brazil come alive at Espetus with the Bay Area's very first Rodizio Style restaurant.
The concept is simple; serve the meat straight from the fire on which it was cooked so that the flavor, temperature, & texture are perfect.
In the Brazilian Language, Portuguese, Espetus means skewer. In traditional churrascaria (shoo-ras-ka-ria) meat is cooked on skewers over an open fire, brought straight to the table where it is carved directly on to your plate.
For one set price, you will experience one or all of our succulent cuts of meat, continuously served until you are satisfied.
Espetus also has a full salad bar overflowing with the exotic salads & side dishes of the Brazilian Cuisine.

"It is definitely a noisy place. Service was great, food came out at the right pace. Two of the fourteen selections they brought to the table were just ok. (the chicken and ribs), but most of the meats were tasty (and it IS a steak house!).

"I selected Espetus as a new place to try on Father's Day this year. My dad was not disappointed, nor was anyone else in my party of six! That is really saying something considering my husband has THE WORST luck at restaurants. Even he was raving about this place! Every single dish we tried was good, but some were definitely better than others. Favorites from the salad bar were the potato salad, mango salsa, and egg salad. The hot side bar had the expected sides, like white rice and black beans, but also had interesting options like Brazilian chicken pot pie and ground beef crepes. You actually could make a meal out of just the side and salad bars. But don't! Save room for the amazing meats! Try them all!"

"Great dinner. Food is excellent and service outstanding (except for the bar tender). There is a wonderful variety of food and I only wish I could eat more as I didn't have enough room to try everything available. The restaurant isn't inexpensive, but it is a good value when you consider both the quality and quantity of food available. Also very nice that children under 6 eat free and older ones are half price. I've been to both the S.F. and San Mateo locations and both are excellent."

"Espetus is a high end authentic Brazilian steakhouse. Excellent buffet and meat service and excellent service by the waiters. For newcomers to this barbecue style, my advice is "Do not let your plate fill up with meat". You want to have thin slices each time and refuse additional meat if you still have plenty in your plate. They will keep on bringing fresh, delicious and hot meat as for long as you want. If you get your plate full, the meat will be cold and not taste as good anymore.
I know you will be full by the end, but try to share one Passion Fruit Mousse for dessert.

"We discovered churrasco by word of mouth, after friends convinced us to try it with two simple words: "endless meat". Sold on that premise alone, we decided to try Espetus, since the smells walking by were enough to drive a person insane. Once we were seated and the meat started flowing, we were in heaven. All the meats were extremely juicy, flavorful and varied, and the service was top notch; quick, attentive, and eager to please. Extremely well-mixed caipirinha, as well. This is a place to go extremely hungry, if you want a piece of everything. Recommend skipping the anemic salad bar; you came for meat, not filler! For those looking to save a little money, lunch prices are cheaper for exactly the same meal and service."

"First time this past week for dinner. Great food, good service. They had live music too. Bill would have been painful except for the fact that we had a gift certificate. Definitely a nice place to celebrate a special day, but would be hard pressed to go there "on a whim". With soft drinks and a shared dessert for two, after tip expect to pay around $160."

"Great restaurant. Nice choice of meats and sides. You will be too full for dessert! A bit pricey at $54.99/person for dinner, but worth it for special occasions. We have been to the SF location, as well. It's been awhile since we've been to the SF one, but this location is a lot bigger and seems to have a little bit more variety for sides (paella, for example). Would love to see a location in the East Bay."

"It is the 3rd restaurant of the chain I visit, the other 2 being the one in San Diego and the one in San Francisco. Compared to the other 2 the ambiance was less attractive (very formal) and i felt food was rushed (may be because I had booked for a 21.30 dinner. Quality of food was as expected and good value for money."

"I took my cousin from Italy for lunch along with 2 other people and we had a GREAT time. My cousin remarked how the meats which were brought to the table were always HOT off the fire and she appreciated that. The buffet portion of the meal always inclueds so many interesting choices that you just want to try them all. Everything from the food to the service is very inviting and it's a relaxing way to spend some leasurly time with good friends and great food! I have been several times for dinner, this was my first lunch and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend!"

"Heard good things about this place from a co-worker, but unfortunately was quite disappointed. Meats needed seasoning and for a Saturday night, we had to ask to have the lamb chops brought out cause it was the same meats that kept coming out. I'm used to LA churascarrias that have quite the assortment of meat. The side dishes were good. I'm glad we tried it but won't be coming back. I'll try Pampas instead in Palo Alto. Heard that it's a lot better than Espetus."

"I've been to several Brazilian style restaurants before. This one is most overpriced of them all. I am used to see the dessert and regular drinks included in the price. What we paid for 2 people was very steep and will never be repeated at this place. I honestly can say even the meat quality was not the best I've had.

"I tried to write about my visit here, however couldn't find words to describe my experience. The place is very beautiful and staff is really friendly. They do take care of you at every spot. "This was my first time trying out the San Mateo location. The restaurant itself, is very beautiful, it has an open feel to it. The meats are well seasoned and cooked to perfection. My only complaint would be they are very slow to come around to the tables. I prefer the San Francisco location for this reason only. But with that said, the food was delicious and well seasoned. The wait staff were all friendly and helpful."

"Having tried several churrascaria rodizio-style on the Peninsula, this is the best. More expensive than most but you do get genuine food (incl. feijoada) and they keep on bringing meat to your table without having to ask. They'll start with lesser-quality meats but if you're patient the chicken wrapped in bacon and filet mignon will make their way to you.
My experience with them started on a sour note with inadequate phone service. Twice they put me on hold for long times (4mn and more) and once never picked up the call again, leaving me on hold forever.
We went on a Sunday night and it wasn't very busy, though they did have a couple large groups. The room is large and not ideal for a romantic dinner. Service was flawless."

"As always, very good selection of spit fired meats. The salad bar had plenty of fresh food to chose from, even though it was lunch. Price for lunch is moderate (around $50per person lunch and $75 per person for dinner, if you eat desert and have a beverage.). This was my fourth visit and I would go back! Easy to find location. "When every bite of meat is warm and juicy, seemingly hot off the fire, over a a full hour of dining , it is an amazing experience. Not burnt, or dry, or in need of steak sauce.
One could only replicate such a feat, if they were standing over a bbq the entire time, or like a Korean bbq where you have charcoal at every table and can pick from the grill with impunity. The only negative was finding street parking, which took a few turns around the block."

"Sumptuous and delicious! Great service staff that helps you enjoy dining experience is a huge plus!
This was our 2nd trip to Espetus San Mateo. We find this restaurant to be much superior than what Pampas is now (i.e., its meat selection & tenderness) and even slightly better than Fogo de Chaõ in Los Angeles (better rodizio). Clean modern set up with plenty of parking around and great hop in and out off of 101 makes this location better than its San Francisco counterpart."

"One of the best "churrascarias" I have ever been to. It is nice to see that the owners brought to the bay Area a true Brazilian experience with superb food quality, decor, brazilian music and staff. We started off by drinking a caipirinha and enjoying some appetizers in the bar while waiting to be seated - that really set the mood. Bravo!"

"after all the times we walked by or ate at charlie's taqueria across the street, we can now say, been there done that. but it wasn't all that special for the price of the dinner meal.
on the plus side: everything was laid out very nicely. the wait staff was very attentive.
on the minus side: the spinach/salmon salad and guacamole spots were totally vacant when we went by, NOT what i would have expected in an establishment such as this. i never saw the filet mignon come out of the kitchen, and by the time i realized we could ask for it, i had had enough meat. we arrived at 5pm on a sunday, and it was very nice - by 6pm it was way too noisy for comfort.
we would recommend espetus churrascaria to others, but with reservations."

"Never book a late table at Espetus San Mateo. You don't matter to them at that point, and you will not get the all-you-can eat churrascaria experience that they promise you and for which you pay quite handsomely. If you're seated at 8:30, you might as well give up and go elsewhere. They will treat you, and serve you, as though they can't wait for you to leave.
I was terribly disappointed, and indeed felt cheated. Once they'd made their money on the 6:30 rush, they saw no need to give us what we'd paid for. Espetus' San Mateo management should be ashamed to operate this way. Instead, they told me it was simply the way they did business. I will not return to this establishment and I cannot recommend it."

"As always this place never fails to please the palete. Be for warned that you cannot just sit there and expect great service you must reach out to the servers for a great food experience.
