"Great food. Great service. Fun atmosphere. Always busy and noise levle can be a little loud. You should try one of the guacamole's -- they're all very good. I like everything that I've tried but I particularly like the taco's, especially the sea bass or the steak."

"The guacamole was delicious. This is a great place to sit outside with a big bowl of guacamole and a cocktail. Otherwise the food was mediocre. Food should have some taste, not be betty crocker bland. And it's an expensive place to have such tasteless food. I also asked for a different table and was told they were already reserved. Hmmm."

"I had forgotten how loud the restaurant is - we had a 5:30 reservation and it was close to deafening...we were seated almost immediately...food was excellent as always...we asked that our second pitcher of margaritas not be 2/3 ice and the waiter responded appropriately - our waiter was really good until we needed our check and then he disappeared for 20 minutes...too bad"

"The food was fantastic and very creative. Our waitress was attentive and very kind to my ten-year old son and me. The desserts were to die for! Only downside - the noise. I understand that the restaurant might want to have the idea that it was bustling - but there was no concern there! Even at 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday evening it was jam-packed. Quieter music would have made the entire experience more enjoyable."

"Great spot for girls night! Red chili chicken enchillada and Lime Margaritas Top of my list, and if you can manage to get your tortilla chips hot out of the oven with your guacamole you have found the gateway to heaven! I highly reccomend that you make reservations as it can get very crowded on the weekends, but there is a fun "old school" photo booth to keep you occupied while you wait. Another helpful hint....try and get a table away from the bar. ENJOY!"

"I always love the food here. This was the first time I came here for lunch, and we were a fairly large group with 7 people. But I was still surprised at the slow service, given that the place was fairly empty.

I've been there in the evening when it was packed and got much better, more attentive service than I did during the slow lunch period.

I'm hoping that was just a one-time thing, and I will definitely be back for dinner and happy hour!"

"El Vez is simply amazing. It has the ability to transform an ordinary afternoon or evening into an extraordinary one. I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. Favorite orders are the "Indian Red Lopez" guacamole, El Vez margarita, Enchildas Mixtas. The ambiance; the warm glow and flattering lighting in the place make it a destination worth drinking and dining at routinely. It never gets old. I have never walked out feeling anything other than happier than I walked in. Highly recommended. It's my favorite hangout in the city and I have lived here 20yrs. If you can only go to one local restaurant, make it El Vez. You'll leave with a smile no matter how you felt when you walked in. Guarantee that you won't regret it!"

"I had the Carne Asada which was really tough. The mole chips that came with it were pretty unappetizing. My girlfriend had the grilled beef tacos which were ALSO extremely tough and contained far too much filling for the small tortilla they were served on. Overall, the food was really disappointing. As others have stated, it's also incredibly loud. We most likely will not be back."

"We had dinner reservations at 8:30 on a Saturday night. When we arrived at the front desk, they were telling people without reservations that the wait time was 2 1/2 hours!

Bar was packed, dining room was full and we had to wait about 20 minutes for our table to be ready. They honored our request for a booth and we had a great table in the back of the restaurant.

Service was excellent, food was great and affordable. This restaurant is very loud, not a place for a romantic dinner!

Would highly recommend for small groups.

Make sure you go to the photo booth, a fun experience."

"We dined at El Vez on Valentine's Day. They accomodated my request for a booth, large spacious and so fun along the back wall. We ordered the macho nachos (great!), chipolte chicken tacos, carne asada, sides: plantaines and refried beans and a pitcher of their signature El Vez margarita. We will be back! Our server was very knowledgable with the menu and cocktails. Great date place or somewhere to go with friends. Request a booth!!"

"El Vez serves fresh-from-the-kitchen, Mexican-style food in a boisterous atmosphere. Even though we went on a Sunday afternoon, the ambiance was lively -- I'm sure on weekend nights it'd be a circus of noise. Although the server was helpful in describing all the dishes, the fact that it was our first visit should have alerted her to the fact that we needed help in choosing something that would match our needs. We made it clear we were trying to avoid certain items in our food choices, and all she did was answer our questions -- it would have been nice for her to have given us some ideas that would have met our needs.

The food was promptly served, piping hot and fresh from the kitchen, and delicious. Prices were high, but worth it."

"The cozy booths and neat decor help to make dining at El Vez a very pleasurable experience.

"It was so noisy which I can't stand. The place has a cool design n lots of interesting artsy things to check out. The servers all seemed like they were 12 years old, but they weren't bad, just so...scripted. The food was OK, but the only reason I would ever go back is for a margharita, and actually I don't think I will ever go back. It's just not that good."

"My wife & I had a late lunch reservation. We've never been there before and we weren't familiar with the neighborhood. There were no signs outside so we had to ask one of the patrons waiting in line to make sure we were at the right place. We arrived on time but our table wasn't ready for another 15 min. The place was packed. We waited at the bar but never got served. From these first impressions, things were not very positive. Until we were seated. We were thoroughly impressed from that point on. The red snapper ceviche ranked up there for us as one of the best appetizer dishes we've ever had. Same goes for the guacamole. The server provided excellent svce. & recommendations. Even with the high turnover on Valentine's, we were never rushed"

"The food and service were both outstanding! The atmosphere felt very natural to the style of the restaurant. We started off with the "Indian Red" Lopez guacamole--it was unbelievable! I never thought crab and guacamole would go so well together. My date and I had the Enchiladas Mixtas and the Taco Tasting dishes, and both were excellent. While we ended up getting some of the pricier items on the menu, you don't have to spend a lot to get some quality, excellent-tasting food. It was our first time here, and these were a great way for us to get a taste of a lot of different items on the menu. We will definitely be returning to dine and recommending to friends!"

"We had a great time. It was a snowy night and both the restaurant and bar were crowded. The food was great and our server was friendly and pleasant. The only black mark was a double mix-up. The server apparently forgot to order one of my guests dinners. After we reminded the server, the missing dinner did not arrive until everyone else was nearly finished eating -- not acceptable. Also, I ordered the Blue Cornbread appetizer and reminded the server twice after not receving it. The appetizer finally arrived after we finished eating and the table was cleared. We weren't charged but I wasn't looking for a free appetizer-desert. We had fun and El Vez could have earned 4 1/2 or 5 stars if not for the absent minded (but friendy) server."

"Celebrated husband's 70th b-day here w/ family & friends after visiting car show. Our server "Liz" was patient, very acomodating of several guests w/ food allergies, and seemed to enjoy herself all night, as did we. Fresh guacamole was top notch. Our novice "el Vez" diners enjoyed tacos al carbon. ( Chef made impressive shrimp substitute to avoid exposure to allergens.) Seasoning & melt in your mouth flavor & texture of my sea bass tacos were just the comfort food I needed on a cold winter night. "Dinner was great. We have always had a great experience at El Vez. This time, we were treating friends to dinner to wish them luck on a move out of town for a new job. I mentioned that in my open table reservation and not only did they accomodate the type of seating we asked for, but also, brought out a special dessert for them which was completely unexpected but very much appreciated. It was a great night out to dinner. The only complaint, if you can call it that, is that the restaurant is very noisy. It was hard at times to hear the people at our table sitting across from us. But, that didn't stop us from having a good time."

"This was our second time eating dinner at El Vez and unfortunately it will probably be our last. The food was very disappointing last night. The guacamole (we had the Original) was underseasoned. The shrimp in the shrimp enchiladas were overcooked and hard and the pork tacos tasted more like barbecue sauce than mexican.

Even though we didn't go for the Restaurant Week menu maybe it impacted the quality of our food? Our first visit to El Vez was really good.

The staff was great though - both at reception and our waitress. A manager did walk up to our table to ask how our food was and I'll admit we said everything we fine because we really just wanted to go at that point."

"My 2 co-workers and I went to El Vez for restaurant week...The food choices were outstanding and you were offered 4 courses instead of the usual 3. Two of us got the personal guac and chips and the other got the open-faced shrimp quesadilla...both were out of this world! For out second course, 2 got the Mexican chopped salad and one got the chicken tortilla soup...again, both were fantastic! (The salads were unexpectedly large as it was restaurant week and most courses are on the small-size.) Entrees consisted of carne asada and red snapper. We all sampled each others and we were each blown away by the flavors and presentation. Dessert was equally as impressive - rich dark chocolate cake and traditional orange flan! We'll be back!!!"

"What fun! The food was delicious (I had the seviche app mahi-mahi tacos) with very nice menu selections. The drink menu was interesting and the overall atmosphere was upbeat. Great place to go if you like a different take on traditional Mexican. Don't miss the guacamole! They also have a photo booth inside the restaurant if you want to have some fun with friends."

"My husband and I felt like the drink menu was misleading. We ordered a pitcher of magheritas and our server asked what kind of tequila we prefered. When we got the check, our one pitcher of magheritas was over $50! It wouldve been better if the server warned us about the major upcharge. The description and server seems very misleading by not having that notation."

"We were at El Vez for our 30th wedding anniversary on the 30th with our grown kids. Using Open Table, when I reserved, I had asked for a margarita to be brought to my husband when we sat down and as crowded and busy as they were, much to my surprise, the waitress brought it immediately! The service was very attentive, the waitress brought the courses one after the other but never rushed us and never forgot us. She returned to ask if we needed drinks refreshed, refreshed our water and just was great. In addition, we are salsa lovers and asked for a bowl of hot salsa and she returned with the salsa sampler and more chips almost immediately. All our dinners were great too."

"The only issue I had with the restaurant was with the maitre d. When we arrived for dinner they seated our party of 4 at a small table when there were available open booths. We asked our server if we could have a booth and it took her so long to find out they had already seated other smaller parties at the booths, a party of 2 and 3. I thought this was a foolish and rude way to treat a bigger party by giving us a smaller table."

"Had lunch there with two other friends. We shared some guacomole and chips, "The Original". We also shared the rose' sangria which was quite yummy. I had the Taco Tasting Platter which was way too much food, but was great as it gave you the variety and ability to try all the offerings.

"This was an awesome restaurant! The food was amazing - we had everything from appetizers to dessert. Definitely get the guacamole - unbelievable! We had the one with pistachios and goat cheese based on the recommendation from our waitress. Drinks are fun and well-mixed. Ambiance is fun - people-watching at the bar will occupy you for the evening. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant - it was awesome and we almost went back the next night, but felt like we should experience something else in the city. Only thing keeping it from an overall 5 stars was that our waitress was on the slow side."

"We would not go back. Ever. I made the reservation a month in advance and they seated us right next to the bar. Of course most of the seats are next to the bar due to the bar being right in the middle of the restaurant. Very noisy, not a relaxing place. "The meal was great however they brought out each course way too quickly. We ordered appetizers and 3 minutes after they were brought to the table they brought out our entrees and wanted to clean away our appetizer plates. The same thing then happened with our entree. They waitstaff came by 3 times to ask if we were done yet. We were there for a celebration and were not looking to rush through out meal. I would recommend the restaurant to others but encourage you to put your appetizer order in before you even order your dinner entrees."

"I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Mexican is not something I usually eat but my 25 year old daughter LOVES it - hence El Vez. The appetizer and salad courses were exceptionly good as was my daughters entree. My fish entree could have been better. Of course the Margaritas were splendid!! Overall the food and drink were very good. The service was just that service - nothing outstanding and sometimes our server looked a bit overwhelmed. It was a Saturday night but it was early and restaurant wasn't even full. Hostesses were very nice and friendly and accommodated my request for a booth."
