Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
Social Reform Kitchen & Bar has been called “a monument to fine dining” and “a veritable who’s who of politics, business, and dining in DC.” Enjoy savory hand-cut steaks, fresh seafood flown in daily, and a selection of fine wines. Six private dining rooms are available for meetings/events up to 300 people. Open Mon.- Fri. for lunch, Mon. - Sat. for dinner.
"Staff was great. Bartender makes a great Old-fashioned, which I hold as a barometer for a bar program... Burger was delicious. Bar crowd is non-existent after happy hour, definitely better to visit Mon-Thurs if you're feeling social..."

Review 2 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"Our party of 6 had wide and varied requirements that the new menu satisfied. From salads to sandwiches to meals to desserts, all enjoyed their food choices. The dessert sampler of sorbets & gelatos was excellent! The service provided by Cooper was great as well as relaxed and fun. The staff even went out on the street to hail a cab for one of our party and did not give up until a cab stopped. Everyone enjoyed the evening very much! I will go back!"

Review 3 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"Service was great at first, had a blip of 45 minutes where we were ignored, and then he came back and all was good. There weren't a whole lot of people there for a Saturday night, so I don't know why he was so scarce for a while.
Regardless, food was wonderful and the beer selection is pretty darn good."

Review 4 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"We had lunch at Social Reform before a Matinee at Ford's theater. They had a good business crowd and service was very accommodating. We had the burgers - big, juicy, quality meat, and messy! I had to ask for an extra napkin. That is a good thing when you eat burgers. It was nice to have the salad substitute rather than potatoes. It was more than we could eat, so we did not have dessert."

Review 6 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"We were a little late arriving for our dinner reservation and had to be at a show in an hour. Our waiter understood our predicament and did his best to get us served quickly. Food was fantastic. We had a few drinks with dinner so our bill was rather expensive. But it is always a treat to come here."

"Nice place to get a bite to eat prior to a show at Fords theatre. Offered discount on parking which was an added bonus. Nutty Irishman for after dinner drink is fabulous!"

Review 8 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"Service was very good. friendly, able to get us out in time for a show without rushing. Basil martini was very good. Salmon and ceaser salad was very good. However, the pea soup had literally no flavor and the rockfish that is their specialty was supposed to be seared. Although not spoiled, the fish appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The outside was not seared, rather tough, rubbery and dry. We did not make an issue of it...just won't return."

Review 10 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"This was a great oasis from the 7th St and E St NW eateries in WDC. It's just a block away but the difference is enormous. We'll be back - the food was very good; nice drinks menu - fun but not too complicated. Service was overall prompt, but one server was helpful with food and drinks tips, and another ("we work as a team") was not. A response such as "All the beers / wines / appretizers / desserts are good" is not enlightening or engaging."

Review 11 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"We went for a pre-Hockey game meal and enjoyed the food; this has gone from a high-end steakhouse to a place for good, reasonably priced appetizes, salads, burgers and beers. The service was a bit scattered (particularly since we were one of only four tables in the restaurant."

Review 13 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"we tried Social Reform Restaurant as a precursor to going to Ford's Theater....they give you discounted parking around the corner, and Ford's recommended it. The menu is limited but inclusive enough to satisfy most, and the food was very good. I had a hangar steak...excellent, terrific fries and sauted spinach with it. My friend had a steak salad, also excellent. Unfortunately, the service was quite slow, not good when the theater is waiting....but we ended up being comped for the meal, which was extremely generous. We'll go back...I think the slow service was a fluke, nobody else had a problem."

"We were there early and were only 2 of about 10 people in the entire restaurant. We sat at the bar and had dinner. Food was very good. Would recommend with a large group."

Review 18 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"Dropped in for a pre-theatre dinner. Food was good. Waiter was nice but inattentive - didn't check back to see if we needed anything for some time. Food came promptly - but we didn't order anything complicated. Waiter said we'd have time for dessert - especially if we ordered something cold. But we were rushed for dessert - it was slow to come. Not sure if it was the fault of the kitchen or the waiter not paying attention to that as wel. So we ended up collecting our check and running to the theatre."

Review 19 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"With a shrinking base of long-time customers, it is apparent the restaurant is trying to a attract a younger and more diversified client base. The rebranding/upadte of this Penn Quarter staple includes the addition of some more mainstream fare to the menu and lower price points, however the decor and level of service remain the same."

Review 21 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"Dinner here was fine, but that's it, just fine. The food was good, but nothing to brag about. Our server seemed like she would have rather been anywhere else. Not that she was rude, but just very unexcited to be there. Since it is off the beaten path, this restaurant will have to work harder than it is currently."

Review 22 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"2 Valentine's Day dinners in a row at this place. We just love the attention to detail. Had the rack of lamb, which I never cook at home, and it was excellent. When asking for wine selections, our Waiter (Bill) did an excellent job - picked the best tasting wine for the pairing instead of just picking the most expensive. We had the Byron Pinot Noir. It is an expensive place to eat, but this is another "you get what you pay for" place."

Review 24 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"After waiting for almost 25 minutes and finally having to ask to be served, we were introduced to our server. Appetizers came after some time. The crispy calamari was too breaded and tasted soggy. The falafel did not taste like a falafel, and not in a good way. We eventually were given our main course, Steak Frites. Unfortunately, for a steak house, it was horribly cooked. I had asked for medium and instead found my steak barely rare. When I tried to find a waiter to return my order, there was none to be found. Overall, we had a horrible experience and I wouldn't recommend anyone eating here."

Review 25 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"I went here for lunch during Restaurant Week and was disappointed with the experience. This was the only time I've gone anywhere for RW, lunch or dinner, and been offered only the RW menu. It gives everything a very cheap and unfresh feeling - I pictured the dishes all laid out in the kitchen just waiting to arrive on the tables. Clearly the restaurant is attempting to use RW to its own advantage to save money rather than doing it to allow customers to experience a restaurant they might not otherwise try (and return to). The RW menu was extremely limited, and I had planned specifically to order something from the regular menu. The service was decent and the food was fine, not great, but the overall experience was disappointing."

Review 26 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"Went here for Restaurant Week. The hangar steak was fantastic - perfectly cooked (medium rare), very nice wine reduction sauce. Also, my bean soup starter was amazing (and worked even better on a cool winter day). Some places skimp during Restaurant Week, but I didn't find this to be the case at all here."

Review 27 for Social Reform Kitchen & Bar (fka The Caucus Room)
"Chose this place primarily because it offers validated $6 parking in the lot right next door -- and a 20% discount on check if one has tickets to Ford's Theater and shows them to the waiter. My friend and I both ordered the Fiscal Cliff and it was the best fish I'd ever had in a fish and chips-type order -- the cod filet was very succulent & 1-1.5" thick. The fries were only mediocre. Service was o.k. -- had to get waitress's attention to order glass of wine and, even though I had asked for separate checks and also for the 20% discount when I was first seated, only a single check without the discount was brought -- had to send the waitress back to re-do the check properly (this tendency to ignore customer requests drives me crazy!)"

"The chicken was dry. Salad was flavorless. The flourless cake was a like a brick. The plates were in terrible condition and looked like they were out of a Luby's cafeteria."

"I visit this restaurant a lot and I enjoy each and everytime. The staff is outstanding, because they are attentive but not over-bearing. The food was cooked to our request. My dad is a picky eater and he envisions coming back. Social reform, you have 2 dedicated customers."
