"It's pretty hard to make tasteless Italian food, but I ordered the pasta special the night we were there and my wife and I both agreed that it was nearly completely tasteless. It looked very good, but it was tasteless--I could not pick up any hint of tomato (though the sauce was red), garlic, herbs, or spices. I sent it back. My experiences at Main Street Ventures restaurants has been pretty consistent over the last few years. The food is mediocre at best, and the prices are certainly high for what you get. I am not alone in this opinion, YELP reviewers agree. There are other Ann Arbor restaurants that consistently provide much better food and they will get our business."

"We have been going to Palios for several years and it never disappoints me. We went on Mothers Day. The food was fantastic. We had the stuffed mushroom and polenta appetizers. Both were earthy, herby and delicious. One member of my party has celiac disease and the staff was very accomodating and helpful. We had bolognese (my all time favorite), alfedo with chicken (my 6 year old loves it) and chicken parmagana. We could tell that the pasta was fresh. Everything was fantastic."

"The restaurant was very busy. Our reservations were for 7:30, we arrived at 7:20, although we were seated right away, we sat at our table until 7:45 before anyone acknowledged us. I will say this, the manager/wait staff was very generous in making our dining experience a good one. The manager apologized for the delay, brought us water and took our drink orders. He sent over an appetizer while we waited for the server. After dinner, we were also given complimentary desert. What a great way to satisfy the customer. We will be coming back to Palio's, their food is very good. Thanks for making our dining experience better than we thought it was going to be!"

"I have been here before this trip. LOVE the ravioli. Got the beef medallions on polenta this time. Beef cooked perfectly, very tender, very tasty. Made reservations a couple of days in advance for 7:00 on a Friday. Restaurant began filling up about 7:30-ish. Very busy. Fun place. I read a review that said the attire was business casual, but jeans were very prevalent. Waiter was knowledgeable and kept glasses, cups, etc... full. Did not appear too often. He must have just kept an eye out."

"Food is excellent. Reasonably healthy options are available, as well as more decadent offerings. Service is friendly and relaxed. The overall atmosphere is one of casual southern Italian dining -- not terribly far from the actual thing (having been to Italy).
If you go on your birthday with "x" people, you get 1/x off of your food bill (alcohol not included). E.g., two people (on one of the person's birthdays--bring ID!) get 50% off; three people get 1/3 off; and so on. We went on my birthday...the food was excellent, the wine good (not spectacular, but not bad either), and the service perfect. Couldn't have been better."

"The chef at Palio's went out of his way to prepare a fabulous low sodium meal for my wife who is on a no-salt diet. The other dinners in our party were also very, very well prepared and a very delicious start to our night on the town. "We discovered Palio by accident a while ago. It was a great find!! The food is excellent, authentic, sort of Italian "Cuisine." Prices very good, atmosphere is like a large family owned/operated "trattoria." Great menu, long wine list, staff who know the details of the food and how to serve expertly. When filled with folks, it can be very noisy. On a week night or lunch-time it is quiet. We love to go there."

"The menu at Palio has changed and I was sad to see my "usual" was no longer available. However there were plenty of other foods to choose from in several categories so deciding what to get was difficult! I ordered from the specials menu and was not disappointed. There were 3 in our group and between us we had their seafood, their meat, and their pasta and each of us was very happy with our choice.
The service was fantastic. Our waitress was very attentive. Each part of our meal came quickly and we were able to cash out and dash to our next event - all in 45 minutes!"

"We were fortunate to be seated in a booth along the window side --noise level on a Saturday night was a bit lower and we could talk without shouting ... salads were fresh ; extra bread brought out quickly on request--pasta portions are generous .I wanted a simple pomodoro sauce on whole wheat but with veggies-nothing on the menu like that but the chef prepared this for me with yummy mushrooms and squash. Only charged 1.00 additional-that was a surprise. Otherwise- rather pricey but this is downtown Ann Arbor, after all!"

"The bolognese sauce is cream-based, not tomato-based. There is no "hunk of red meat" option. The wine was excellent, especially for a $30 bottle; we have had $50 bottles that were not as good.The management interrupted our meal three times to ask if everything was to our liking - that's 2 times too many.The biggest issue I have is the general state of disrepair. The place needs to be renovated."

"The restaurant had solid but not excellent Italian cooking. Flavors were good but sauces on pasta were quite rich and oversaturated. The appetizer with melted cheese was overindulgent and tasty but again too rich. The service was overly efficient with our main course arriving before our salad-although, the waiter did not charge for the salad. Overall, a notch above Italian chain restaurant food but better choices exist."

"We were in Ann Arbor for a college visit. Palio's was suggested by our hotel so we gave it a try! The food was plentiful and delicious and the service was superb. We will definitely return!"

"Food was excellent although portions were quite large. Our waiter made the evening - he was quick, knowledgeable and quite entertaining. Had reservations for Saturday night and did not have to wait long. Will definately return to try some more of the wonderful menu selections. Great choice for an evening with friends."

"We order appetizers and entrees. The appetizers were great and 3 of the 5 people enjoyed their meals. My mother and I ordered the pistachio and almond/pecan (can’t remember which) and it was disappointing. The main draw to this dish was we thought it was going to be completely encrusted in the nut mixture with the sauce on the drizzled around it (it was on the plate). It was like the white fish was cooked, then had the nut mixture sprinkled on very lightly; it had about 1 eighth of what I thought/it should’ve had on it. I’ve order a similar dish another restaurant and made a similar dish with pecan encrusted white fish; the fish should be completely surrounded (encrusted) with the nut mixture. I wouldn’t recommend serving it in that fashio"

"To whom it may concernMy family and our young children (11 & 13) has dined many times over the years at Palios and every experience has been excellent - until our most recent visit on 2/14/2013 valentines day. Upon our arrival and I announced us, the hostess proceeded to seat us in a corner next to the server station with the coffee pots. Upon my request to switch tables she proceeded to seat us in the bar area. Upon my request again to change our table the hostess seated us in the very back of the restaurant in a corner - what felt very isolated from the other guests. We sat down and the server said hello to us and we explained our dis-satisfaction with how this was handled - especially since we booked a reservation - the server apologiz"

"One of our favorite downtown restaurants. We've been going there for years and it never disappoints. It has a private room that can be reserved for small parties. We had a family style dinner there for 20+ to celebrate our daughter's graduation and everyone enjoyed it. When the weather is nice the rooftop is VERY popular for drinks and dining."
