"We found the food good, but nothing really special. This restaurant has received excellent reviews in the past, so we were really looking forward to the experience. We arrived before the dinner service, and so, were presented with an extremely limited lunch menu. (Even though this was Mothers' Day. You would have thought they would put on something special.) Not much to choose from other that tuna melts and shepard's pie. I had the shepard's pie, and it was rather tastless. Don't think I'd go back."

"Our family recently had an early dinner (3:30pm) reservation at the Blue Plate to celebrate Mother's Day a bit early and we all had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere inside was calm and not loud which was great for keeping our 2 year old engaged and occupied.
The food was delicious and the deserts we chose ended the meal off with such a great note.
The service was very friendly and attentive to our needs, which always makes any dining experience just that much more enjoyable.
We all enjoyed the meal and will no doubt be soon for another opportunity to experience what the Blue Plate has to offer."

"Veggie shepherd's pie was not heated throughout. Chips with the trio dip were burnt. The server brought the food and never came back to find out if we even liked the food. One item was good, the house salad with cranberries and a vinigrette. That was quite good. Menu choices in restaurant were less than the posted menu on website. Experience was mediocre at best."

"Just as the title suggests we had fantastic service. Our server was neither too pushy or hovered too much. He was just the right amount of available and abscent from our dinning experience all at the same time. The food however, was not the best that I've had from Blue plate, I took a chance and ordered something new, the shepherds pie, it tasted like the ingredients had been sitting around for awhile in a pre-mixed concoction in the back, it was the first time I ordered it and the last."

"A friend and I went to the Blue Plate Dinner on a Saturday night and had a wonderful time. The food is always amazing. I had the barbequed chicken and it was amazing. The BBQ sauce is very delicious. Their desserts were also great. The staff is polite and helpful. I love the atmosphere of the place with the retro tables and lamps. The prices are reasonable. Dinner for two with a shared dessert was under 50 dollars."

"There was just the two of us celebrating our 41st anniversary. We couldn't have been happier with our choice of restaurants. The atmosphere is casual yet classy and we appreciated that the tables were not all jammed together so we could actually have quiet conversation. The food and wine ( both recommended by our server) fit our palettes perfectly! We also appreciated the variation of menu choices and look forward to trying some more on a return visit."

"Went on a Wednesday after work and the diner was fairly empty. We were seated immediately. The ambiance is nice - quirky & retro. The macaroni and cheese was a little disappointing - slightly bland. The meatloaf, dijon mashed potatoes and grilled veggies was very good. We also enjoyed the peanut butter pie. It wasn't too sweet and a nice light dessert after a heavy meal. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and our food arrived pretty quickly. I would definitely return."

"I always thoroughly enjoy meals spent at Blue Plate. While I've only been there for lunch, I've heard great things about their dinner menu. It gets quite busy for the lunch hour, I always make a reservation just to be certain. The green onion cakes are PHENOMENAL, as is the macaroni and cheese. "I've been many times and as always the meal was excellent. It was at lunch and it was quite busy and a little noisy but the restaurant was full. "I had been here before, remembering it to have a hipster/vegan vibe to it. I ordered the Veggie Loaf (like a meatloaf), as I'd had it before and liked it. Unfortunately this evening, it was so dry, it was hardly palatable. We had a trained Chef in our group (one who has competed internationally), and he was underwhelmed by the food quality. Beef skewers that accompanied the Greek Platter were tasteless (little to no seasoning) and too dry/overcooked. Greek salad was also surprisingly tasteless, and tasted just like cut up vegetables. Since portion sizes were quite small, we ate almost everything, as we were hungry! We paid over $100 for 4 people (one was under 12), no drinks, not a good value for what we received. Funky atmosphere=positive."

"I suppose it was my ignorance, but I always forget what it means to have 'diner' in the name. Not that I have anything against diners; I think they're great for certain occasions, but I was expecting a more classy ambiance. Anyways, this was just my error. We had salmon spring rolls, lasagna, and green chili stew. The food was fairly good all around. The server was extremely friendly, and the overall atmosphere was lively and energetic. Overall a decent place for friends to have dinner; not a very romantic place though, for couples."

"1. The chicken on my salad was "off". Something was wrong with it so I didn't eat it.
2. Server came around very quickly mid-meal to do her check. She left so fast that I didn't have time to finish what was in my mouth to mention the awful chicken. She did not come back.
3. I mentioned the chicken when they came to take plates. Did not eat the chicken and asked not to be charged.
4. Hostess then came and criticized me for waiting to the end to mention the off chicken...what???
5. At least I did not get charged for the chicken. Did get charged for the rest of the meal and paid.

"Food was excellent. Went there that night for the Easter ham special and it was absolutely delicious. I love how they used local ham too :) Our server wasn't the greatest. She didn't have much menu knowledge and she did not bring us the water that we had asked for and even after another server brought us the water she did not notice our empty glasses and did not fill them. The other server (who wasn't even out server) was great! She kept our water glasses full all night. The service has always been great here in the past so guessing our server was just a new bad hire or something. I would recommend eating here. The food is simple yet tasty and full of flavour everytime :)"

Vegetarian sandwich was tasty. My latte was served luke warm. Didn't enjoy it. I did get some hot coffee in my cup.
Service was friendly. Ambiance with work by local artists on the walls makes the Blue Plate a pleasant destination.

"This s a nice restaurant with good food and good service. We were there with another couple on a Sunday night - chose the restaurant as part of the "Downtown Dining Week" and because I had good experience at lunch when I worked downtown. The staff were pleasant and knowledgeable.
The only downer was finding that our car had been plowed in on 102 Ave. Not a good way to end an enjoyable evening."
