"i heard great things about it before i went and it def lived up to all the hype. we were a lil late for our table reservation and as a result had to wait to be seated which i totally didnt mind. there is a sweet alcove space where we sat outside with our drinks, perfect place to jus have a glass of wine and talk. the food was amazing i had the fried cheese, the eggplant n zucchini mix, tuna tartare as well as the chilean sea bass... talk about melt in your mouth delic"

"What a tremendous evening. Avra is a regular for us. We had guests from out of town and wanted them to enjoy a tremendous dinner and a wonderful evening. Saturday, of course, was busy as well as rainy, but we soon forgot the weather. We were greeted warmly and went right to our table. The Maître d was first class. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and a true expert. The fish was delicious and incredibly fresh, the prawns were delicious, the octopus was great and the desserts were worth every calorie. Nice wine selection. The ambiance was inviting and the conversation flowed as well as the wine. Our guests loved their evening as did we. One of my absolute favorites."

"I have been here a few times. each is better than the last. food is delicious and wine list is well matched. where i normally would not try octopus, i tried it here and came back for seconds. the flaming cheese is amazing as well. and the zucchini chips are a must. outdoor seating even though right on the street, seems to be far enough away from the traffic yet still close enough for the people watching crowd. indoors bar area has a nice party vibe to it. all around happy with the experience."

"Food was ok but experience was lacking. Soft shell crabs were good - with the grilled being better than pan seared which were overly breaded. Salads were nice with very flavorful tomatoes on greek salad. Problem was the waiter and ambience. Our waiter was not attentive (wasn't there when needed, and when he was there, he was wildly distracted by the chaos around us), there were big waits for drinks and between delivery of courses, and the room was crowded and I got bumped frequently by the wait staff. Simply not relaxing. The place is also looking worn in a number of areas."

"This was my first visit to Avra. I really enjoyed the food. The selection of entries (meat and seafood) is amazing. The Greek salad was fresh and served with an in house vinaigrette prepared with olive oil and some fine herbs. The grilled scampi and the moussaka were delicious. The staff is very attentive and courteous. It was a nice experience and I will definetely return to this restaurant."

"We went for lunch and all ordered the prix fixe, which is a great value in Manhattan. Food here is always fresh and flavorful and even the portions in the prix fixe are plentiful. They also serve as a starter really good bread with hummus, olives, radishes and olive oil. The desserts are good too. I especially like the Greek cookies."

"Avra is quickly becoming one of my most favorite restaurants in Manhattan. The food is amazing, and I want to order everything on the menu! Stufed Calamari made me feel as if I had died and gone to heaven. Amazing. authentic Greek Salad and Branzino big enough for three to share was spot on! This visit we had the privilege of sitting in Antonia's section. She has been with avea since the doors opened - and she's Greek to boot! Antonia is reason alone to come back - she is personable, knowledgeable, attentive and one of the BEST servers I have ever experienced. We will definitely be back and we will definitely request to be seated in Antonia's section!"

"Food was fabulous. Tried the 3 cheese stuffed calamari and it was amazing. The presentation of our meal even made the people next to us say "wow". Wonderful open air restaurant - try to be seated outside if possible if it's nice weather. Service was excellent. The waiters do not attempt small talk, but are very efficient. Excellent food, nice for couples, parties, business, etc. Noise was what I expected inside for a NYC restaurant. If outside, you can have a more intimate conversation. Very clean, nicely decorated. Will definitely go back."

"The food was superb.The Mediterranean snapper the Fagri was succulent ,light and flavorful.I ate the king Prawns ,absolutely delightful.I took 2 pounds which gave me 4 prawns at 52 dollars a pound expensive yet delicious.The calamari appetizer and the octopus were both very good.The one thing none of us liked was the 3 spreads with pita.The Tarama was just creamy and heavy tasting no flavor,the other 2 the eggplant and Tzatziki were average.We also had the Sangria which was great as well a treat.I highly recommend this restaurant"

"Overall the food was okay. Raw bar was excellent and fresh; entrees were not particularly different from any other seafood restaurant except pricier. The table was small and close to each other. "Went for Mother's Day Brunch and my mom and grandmother loved it. They offered a prix fixe menu that was well worth the price. It's full-sized appetizers and entrees with a brunch cocktail and a dessert. We were stuffed. Seafood was fresh and prepared just right. This is a place to go for group dining as it's in a hotel and business district in Midtown. The a la carte menu is pricey but that's typical of Greek restaurants in Manhattan. I recommend this place."

"I enjoy taking clients to this restaurant and they offer a very nice pre fix lunch. They don't skimp on portions and the quality is very good. I can't eat bread anymore, but the table bread is excellent. My lunch came with dessert, but I can't eat flour or wheat/gluten...The waiter offered me a sorbet which I thought was amicable. A very good place"

"We have dined here several times. The food is consistently fresh and prepared simply - grilled. The Greek appetizers and salads are wonderful, too. This is the first time we dined here where the service was less attentive than usual. Had I been asked to review this restaurant at another time, I would have given 4 stars for the service. This could have been an off night."

"I have to say, I went into dinner quite skeptical. My Husband & I had been to Avra 12 years ago, so I wasn't sure if it would still be as good. We actually found that it was better than we had remembered. The service was amazing & the food was outstanding. Definitely going back soon."

"Everything I expected and more. Great seating and waiter was gracious even though we blew him off three times before ready to order. Bar scene is too cramped to show up early so save yourself there.Seating was right on time! Very nice outdoor dining if you can get it. Fish by the pound is a little confusing and expensive but ask many questions and they help you.I'd go back for sure."

"I selected Avra for dinner with friends who were coming into town from Gloucester, Massachusetts. My friends are seafood experts and have virtually every kind of ocean fish there is.
The menu at Avra was delightful, as well as the wine last. The waiter recommended Bronzino (in Italian, Luraki in Greek) and it was custom prepared in a charcoal oven with light, delicious herbs. Our waiter also was very knowledgeable in terms of wines and recommended an outstanding Santorini/savignon blanc.
Delighted with the food, service and whole experience - and a new experience for you seafood expert friends!"
