Five Fifty-Five
Steve and Michelle Corry, the proprietors of Five Fifty-Five, arrived in Portland armed with a passionate vision and extensive experience in the restaurant industry. Steve began his culinary career as a brew master at several breweries in Northern California. In 1999, he attended the New England Culinary Institute in Burlington Vermont. After graduating in 2001, he returned to California to work at Domaine Chandon in Napa Valley. A graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Michelle Corry has worked at numerous prestigious establishments, including the French Laundry in Napa. Together, they have envisioned a dining experience that would combine a comfortable atmosphere, professional service, and fresh, simple, and delicious food sourced locally. Steve and Michelle Corry would like to welcome you to their first collaborative, Five Fifty-Five.

"It started off a bit rocky, as they were a little backed up.Extremely busy and really no room to wait for our table.Then things changed as we were seated. The service and food was fantastic. "Not a food comment but loved the free valet service...especially given the difficulty parking in the old port.
Prices are high but definitely worth it. Food presented well (I loved eating upstairs and watching the plates being prepared) and tasted so good. I can tell when the meal is excellent when the tastes, odors, presentation, colors, and textures slow me down (otherwise I eat too fast and too much).
This was my 2nd time there (went there 5 years ago and it was excellent then too)."

"Interesting seasonal menu from an inventive chef. The service was spot on, not intrusive but staff was there when needed. Knowledgable about the menu and origins of local ingredients. "My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and it is also my birthday. The staff at 555 printed a message on our menus, gave us an excellent table and even wrote happy birthday and happy anniversary in chocolate on our dessert plates. The food was excellent and the service top notch. This is the place in Portland for a special occasion meal. With Portland being a foodie city, 555 stands out in all levels as a wonderful place for a meal."

"We had the chef's tasting menu which, unlike most other restaurants, is made up of items not on the regular menu so that the chef has maximum flexibility. The ingredients were those in season and each course creative. "My boyfriend passed the bar examination, which I mentioned when making the reservation at Five Fifty-Five. Upon arrival at our table they had champagne waiting for us and our menus had Congratulations! Cheers! written on them. The service from there on was fabulous and they even wrote Congratulations in chocolate on his dessert plate.
They truly made the night even more special than it was planned to be with all of the extra personal touches we experienced throughout meal. Highly recommend this restaurant, and we'll certainly be back."

"To celebrate my new job, we wanted a guaranteed delightful meal. 555 was definitely the place to go. We like to go at 5:00 because the restaurant is quiet enough for us to hear the music and we get a lot of individual attention from our very knowledgeable waiter. We like to split the signature tasting menu and add one or two small plates of our choosing. At 555 the presentation and freshness of the dishes is too important to waste on a takeout box. The wine pairings are always good, but this night they were amazing. Each wine echoed a stand-out flavor in the dish, making the pairing much greater than either the food or the wine alone. Even if the new job turns out to be a downer, I'll remember the celebration with great joy."

"Had a fantastic evening here at 555 on Friday Evening...the whole nine yards! Candles, perfect lighting, champagne, five-course meal, wonderful service, and we even had the opportunity to meet (and compliment) the kitchen staff.
I would recommend this restaurant to any couple, or even group of couples looking for a fine dining experience, with a comfortable and inviting ambiance."

"Five Fifty-Five Restaurant consists of two ground-floor rooms, a spacious bar with some tables, and the main dining room which is an atrium design with a balcony on four sides, wide enough for a row of tables. The room is in fact an old fire station. The kitchen occupies a section of the main floor. Decor is dull. But the food and service are exceptional. Most famous among main dishes is a lobster mac and cheese (did they invent this dish?) which is excellent but too rich for my taste. I had a roast duck--not the trendy duck breast--which was just perfect, as was lemon souffle for dessert. The wine list is so extensive that you wonder where they keep all those bottles!"

"What a great space and a tremendous menu (and extensive wine list!). The open kitchen allows you to see what the chefs are up to, whether you're on the main level or up in the balcony which rims the main dining room. For foodies, there's something magical about watching pros make the food you're enjoying. The multi-course (ours was 5 courses) tasting menu highlighted signature dishes and cheeses from the menu (the cheeses are excellent - many are from the finest cheesemakers in Vermont), and the portion size meant that at the end of the meal I was pleasantly full without feeling overfull. Innovative food, tremendous, personable service, and a lovely space. We'll be back."

"555 was amazing in all respects and proved that it is a top spot in Portland. We tried the Chef's Tasting Menu of 5 courses. the pacing was perfect, the portions just right, and the food was spectacular. Each time a plate arrived we were told what was on it (ginger foam on the rutabaga soup for example), and honestly it was just a top-notch experience all around. Highly recommended."

"Overpriced, $29 for 3 scallops and a dollop of mashed potatoes, seriously. Lobster mac & cheese was tasty but definitely not the best I'd ever had and definitely not worth $32. Showed up 15 minutes early for reservation and was told to come back, based on that alone I shouldn't have returned. $100 for two, it wasn't even worth $50 for two based on portion and taste. The restaurant isn't very concerned about appeasing customers either as I had an issue and addressed it and didn't even get a response."

"This was a great find for an out of towner in Portland. I picked it when I saw that the chef was a NECI graduate, and we had an excellent meal. The service was excellent, and the food was great from start to finish. We had the mussels and the haddock cake for appy's which were both super. For entrees we enjoyed scallops, hanger steak, and lobster mac and cheese (there were three of us!) We tried a couple of the petite deserts with a glass of port. The interior of the restaurant is very warm and cozy on a cold March night. Even the valet service was great."

"My boyfriend and I took an impromptu trip to Portland President's Day weekend and our dinner at Five Fifty-Five topped the weekend off perfectly. From the service (Christopher), to the appetizers, to the main course everything was literally perfect. I have the beets 3 ways, he had mussels - both scrumptious - and for entrees I splurged and ordered the lobster mac & cheese with the extra lobster. It was worth every penny and calorie. My boyfriend went with the steak which he described as like having sex with his food while he ate. We really enjoyed our time there and would take the 2 hour drive from Boston just to eat here again."
