"We had the 8 course tasting. We did not pair with wine but had a bottle from the interesting and fairly priced list. Our server, Matt, was excellent. Overall, the food was very good and the pasta (surprisingly) and the game (not as much of a surprise) were excellent. A very enjoyable evening."

"I have to say not good at all for Sunday brunch. The food came out slow to the point the kids were actually crying - and it wasn't busy ! - the duck confit was inedible so salty , the eggs benedict one hard poached egg! Basically a good cafe is the same dinning experience! $140 for brunch two children 4 adults! FURTHER They also charged my debit card three times for the same amount of money - they are closed monday/tuesday so still awaiting my refund! One good thing what was excellent were the pastries!"

"I hosted a table of 7 persons. Everything went along in a timely fashion. The waiter introduced himself (I believe he said "Brice"), took our orders efficiently and made explanations when asked. However, he did not return to ask "how everything was" or did we need anything else. We ordered a bottle of wine listed on the menu at $60. We were told that "they were out of that one." Then he substituted it for another bottle at $100.00. (two bottles were ordered). He should have inquired if there "was a particular host at the table", then attended to me for questions and follow up. (He didn't know who to give the bill to until I gave him a sign. I wanted to quietly tell him that the lamb I had ordered "medium" was over done."

"This was one of the finest dining experiences I have had in Los Angeles, if not the country. The restaurant was full at 7:00, but we were seated promptly and very courteously. Ambience is upscale rustic and beautiful. Perfect spacing between tables. Service excellent without hovering. Martinis served in an ideal fashion with large, fresh olives. Beautiful wine list and a somalier who is knowledgable, informative and friendly. We had the 8-course tasting menu and I can find no fault. Every course was unique and delicious. Not cheap by any means. The bill with tax and tip was $700 for 4 of us..... And I don't feel like I overpaid. Wish I could do it every night."

"I've heard so much about this place and was really excited. I made an error and assumed the Valentine's Day dinner menu would be available for the lunch (so I'll have to go back for the Game Trio that's rumored to be great). So the menu was more limited than I would have liked (it was a special less-expensive prix-fixe menu for Valentine's Day, but only had Bison and no Elk or Venison), but the ambience, service, local, and expansiveness were really impressive."

"This restaurant is nice. Very cold inside. The service was slow. The waiter's table with water, bread, etc., was in the corner behind our table. As such, a waiter knocked into my chair at least a dozen times. The food was fair, the price was high. The presentation of the food was beautiful, but the portions were extremely small. Overall, it was not a memorable experience. Honestly, the restaurant has gone down hill. Sorry. I was really looking forward to nice experience."

"Everything was lovely, however, they need to work on their desert menu. It's really not up to the standards of the food itself, it was disappointing. We had a "smores" desert which on the menu was described as "chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallow ice cream" well the so called chocolate was a kind of mousse/gelatin thing, as was the marshmallow "ice cream", and as for the crust, it was just graham cracker dust which I'm sure came out of the box from the market. Usually when the menu describes ice cream, we kinda expect actual ice cream."

"We went to Saddle Peak Lodge for the first time on Valentines Day weekend. The menu was lovely, but I think I would have enjoyed seeing their regular menu instead of picking from a small selection. The staff was very helpful. The ambiance was lovely. It was perfect for a couple who haven't celebrated Valentines in quite a few years. We did the wine pairings with dinner and all of the selections were lovely.
Guests should be be prepared for sticker shock when they get the bill. We knew what we were getting into ahead of time, so we did not mind."

After that he was very attentive. The bread pudding was absolutley FABULOUS!!! Thank you! We'll be back for our Anniversary in a couple of months."

"My wife agreed to marry me 9-years ago at the Saddle Peak Lodge. It was the perfect setting for the beginning of a wonderful relationship. We have returned several times for our anniversary, and have never been disappointed. The setting is beautiful, the ambience is romantic, and the service is attentive and informative. It is the food, however, that makes the experience so exceptional. From the complementary cup of soup, to the extraordinary deserts, the entire meal is filled with one memorable taste after another. The Saddle Peak Lodge never disappoints, and seems to just get better each time we dine there."

"Ambiance is one thing but food quality and service are another. Extremely disappointed with portion sizes for the price and our waiters lack of attention. The bus boys were quick with refills on bread and water but our waiter was too concerned with his other tables. No quality check on our food. He never informed us of any specials and we go the distinct feeling we were an inconvenience to him. It was a slow night in the dinning room as there were more than half of the tables empty at 7:30pm on a Sunday night. Do yourself a favor and unfortunately save yourself the trip as you will leave with no reason to ever go back."

"Great restaurant, we've been there many times, but unfortunately we now understand that Saddle Peak Lodge does have a bad table. Ours was stuck near a corner where the water and utensil station was located and we had to endure staff squeezing past our table repeatedly during our meal. "This was our first time at SaddlePeak and we were impressed with the quality of the food, service (excellent) and wine list. If you are averse to seeing animal heads on the walls, don't go because there are plenty staring at you. Our first opinion was that we weren't in a fine dining room, it felt like we were in a huge open, dark space in a lodge, at a tiny table with slightly uncomfortable, oversized chairs.
It's a nice place to go to if you want a beautiful drive up Mulholland coming from Malibu but it's also close to the 101 in Calabasas. We recommend this restaurant to a mature crowd (who can afford it), and would like a VERY good meal. We had lamb 3 ways and filet mignon. Apps and salads were very good too."

"Unique restaurant with exotic menu items. I tasted the ostrich, antelope, partridge, and elk. The elk was my favorite hands-down. The others were okay but not spectacular. The restaurant is set up so each table has plenty of space and the decoration has a nice, rustic ambiance. This restaurant would be perfect if it weren't so pricey. I think the food was excellent, but it does not level up to the price. The wine list was the most shocking. I typically buy mid-priced (~$30-50) wines at restaurants, but Saddle Peak did not have even that. If you don't mind spending a pretty penny on wine, their wine list is amazing. My boyfriend and I ended up getting a half-bottle of wine for $36."

"This restaurant has been unique and excellent in the past. They have served wild boar and elk among other exotic dishes at dinner time. We have been wowed. Sunday's brunch was ordinary. "We went with a group of 6 to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. Everyone had the 8-course chef's tasting menu. Overall, the food was outstanding! It was the poor service that detracted from this being an amazing experience. Waitress was uninformed about details of the menu, delivery of courses came with no introduction to what was on the plate, bottle of champagne for a toast that I had requested in advance was forgotten about, wine order was delayed, sommelier changed during the meal causing us to start over with our desired selection, second sommelier lacked knowledge of their own wine list. You get the picture. We made the drive from the south bay, and apparently had much higher expectations. Great food, disappointing service."

"Saddle Peak is a special little gem in a game lodge setting that, admittedly, won't appeal to everyone, but the food has been undeniably good and consistent over the many, many years I've gone. Brunch is particularly good, with slight variations on the classics that upgrade them from decent to delicious: the eggs benedict gets the upgrade from english muffin to croissant, from ham to applewood smoked bacon, the hollandaise a mere generous dollop, while the quiche is a delicate blend of gruyere cheese and caramelized onions in lieu of the standard Lorraine, served typically French with a perfectly dressed mixed green salad. The service, from waitstaff to valets, is attentive and polite. Even the drive is a scenic marvel. Never disappoints."

"The Elk Tenderloin, their signature dish, was outstanding. Much like filet mignon it was juicy, tender and full of flavor. The puree it sat on was an excellent addition to the palette of flavors. The salmon and scallops, ordered by other members of my group, were also delicious. There was obvious attention to detail in both the preparation and presentation of the food. While the portions were smaller than the last time I was here several years ago, and notably more expensive, it was still a memorable dining experience and I will happily return in the future. I'm going to try the Chef's Trio next time - which, on this particular night, featured elk, antelope and ostrich!"

"Experience was excellent, as expected. Food was wonderful, ambiance is nice as well. Service was a bit slow this time, with us having a table on the very top floor - it was my impression that the waiter was responsible for tables on multiple floors. It left me waiting to speak with him a few times, which one does not expect in a restaurant of this caliber and cost. It made the $75 tip a bit hard to give, but the rest of the night made up for it.
3 of us had the Elk, which I believe is their most popular dish - it is the most tender cut of meat you can possibly imagine. It makes their exquisite filet mignon (and, it IS exquisite) seem like a burger from Wendy's.
My wife had the ostrich, which seemed over done to me, but she liked"

"The food and ambience were the only redeeming factors. After driving an hour from LA, the experience was really lessened by a number of issues with the service. Our reservation was for 8:30pm- we arrived 10 minutes early and were not seated until 9:15pm. We were not offered anything complimentary to make up for the wait. Once we were seated, no one waited on us, to the point that we had to get up and walk over to the waitress after having been sitting for about 20 min to take our order. Finally after having ordered a $120 bottle of wine, the second bottle we wanted was $90- we were informed they were out of the wine and the waitress tried to upsell us by $30-$40 and did not offer the more expensive wines at the lower price."

"Saddle Peak, especially at Christmas time with the decorations and a fire roaring in the stone fireplace, is a singular experience. One feels a million miles away from Los Angeles, and everyone spends some time imagining themselves living in log and timber home as beautiful as this restaurant. The menu and service is always excellent, and thanks to some more adventurous members of our party, I got my first taste of antelope----absolutely delicious. I stuck with the trout which was wonderful as usual. Make reservations well in advance so you can get the main dining room, although the upstairs room has a charm all of its own."

"This is my favorite restaurant in the L. A. area. The food is top-rate, the service excellent, and the wine list never-ending. For a rustic atmosphere, you couldn't find a better place - you feel like you're eating at a cozy lodge tucked away high in the Sierras. There are several rooms, a few with fireplaces. This is a great choice for special occasions, for bringing out-of-town guests, or for intimate romantic dinners. Even if you're just going out to dine with friends, you'll love this restaurant. There are always interesting game choices on the menu for the more adventurous diners and at least one vegetarian dish, though I don't recommend this restaurant for vegans or vegetarians. However, for the rest of us - GO!"

"In a secluded spot above Topanga, Saddle Peak Lodge is my choice for very special occasions. It's like you're visiting someone's house up in the mountains... your meal may be served in the living room or the library, both of which have warm fireplaces and rustic decoration such as stuffed heads of elk and other game animals on the menu.
The wine list is wonderful, and in fact I could spend a whole evening enjoying the quiet surroundings and a glass of wine. But then there's the food-- all of which is excellent. On this visit, I tried a duo of buffalo, while my husband had the chef's selection of three game meats. From my experience, you really can't go wrong with any selection. Service is extremely polite and you never feel rushed."

"It is a fantastic restaurant to celebrate a special occasion; expensive but worth it for those special days. The food is always good and creative. A few ongoing issues: (1) Very young hostesses lead one to the least desirable table (regardless of what was requested during reservation and confirmed in a phone call) at first and then reseat if one complains. No one bothers to pay attention to the reservation request. (2) A college student "sommelier" who recommends wine based upon his taste and no professional training whatsoever. (3) There is a parking lot which is adjacent to the restaurant and guests are being charged $6 for parking, which is really unnecessary. Restaurant of this caliber must pay closer attention to detail."

"Of the rated restaurants in the Calabasas/Agouro Hills/Thousand Oaks/Westlake Area this one is by far the best. Zagat shows several that are close in rating and I did eat at several in the same week (Fins, Mastro's, Riveira, Padri) and found that there was a significant difference in quality of food at Saddle Peak, they do it right with great creativity and execution.
It is more expensive than most and the same as a few others but much better overall experience. Plan on 100 per person with a reasonable wine - or bring your own at 20 corkage.
It was nice to see Chef out of the kitchen occasionally and speaking to the guests. Adam Horton and Team provide a great dining experience with outstanding food and service within a perfect set"

"We were pleased with the food and the service was excellent as always. I was a bit disappointed with the drink I ordered, a sour apple martini. I first experienced one at this very restaurant and loved it. The martini came, made with a lot of sweet and sour mix, instead of with just the vodka and pucker. I sent the drink back asking for it to be prepared without the sweet and sour mix. The replacement drink was poured, only filling half my glass."
