"I guess my expectations were too high after visiting the website and seeing other reviews that this place was good. Plus they seemed to have a nice brunch scheduled for Mother's Day, but it was a total disappointment. The small tea-sized plate brunch was nothing more than an appetizer fest. Definitely not your average brunch or what you would expect for this special day. To add to it, we had to order a few small plates at a time and in between ordering another appetizer there was about a ten minute wait which was annoying. Now $35 per person would seem like a fairly decent price for a good meal, but not for appetizers. My kids were even disappointed which is rare. I won't go back there again."

"I love mexican food and I love the approach to elevate it beyond my expectations that you get with Border Grill. I'm thrilled to say it's one of my favorite restaurants and look forward to trying all its unique dishes. I brought a crowd of 10 which quickly turned into 16. The waiter didn't object and accommodated my last-minute additions. I will go back next time I'm in L.A."

"I made a reservation only about 30 minutes in advance on a weeknight for a group of hungry convention wery friends. We arrived on time and the table was already for our group. The service was excellent, and the food made everyone in our group more than delighted. I would recommend the Border Grill to anyone that wants some of, if not the best Mexican food in L.A."

"I'd been wanting to check out the famous Two Hot Tamale's restaurant forever.

The food was lovely, so unique. We shared the Baja ceviche, I had the Enchiladas de Costillas and my hubby had the very interesting Pescado Veracruzano. Then we finished with the coconut ice cream w yummy plantains & Kahlua!

"We had an amazing experience at Border Grill. Our server, Izzy, could not have been more helpful. We had two visitors from out of town, and she had great recommendations of what they should try. Susan was at the restaurant that night, and Izzy had her come by the table, which was a thrill for everyone in the party. We will definitely be back!

"Recently went to Border Grill for a business lunch. We shared the Peruvian Ceviche as a starter. It was delicious, and had a nice kick to it. The carnitas and pork rib tacos were very tender and flavorful. Black beans were creamy, rice was a little dry. The service was excellent - our waiter was very attentive, did a nice job making recommendations, and kept our water and iced tea refilled. It wasn't too crowded, so perfect for a quick business lunch."

"I think the food and service have slipped since our last visit. The service was off. My husband's drink wasn't refreshed in a timely way. He had iced tea and it took 13 min for any one to notice that it needed a refill. I initially ordered a berry mojito, but they were already out of berries at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. The cucumber mojito didn't really taste strongly of cucumber or mint. It was pretty bland.My Mexican salad didn't fit the description. It was lacking in some of the ingredients and it used to come chopped. This salad wasn't as good as it used to be. My husband's Yucatan pork was very good.Overall, I think the ownership is showing some indifference to the location and the quality has slipped."

"We went to Border Grill Los Angeles for lunch for a friend's birthday. We were seated right away and brough a basket of hot tortilla chips and a trio of salsas. I really liked the green salsa. The chips were good too (and I ate way too many). I had the grilled mahi mahi tacos and they were tasty. The jalapeno aioli was good, not too spicy and so was the cucumber slaw on top. The rice and beans are "ok". This is certainly not your "authentic" grandmother's type of food but still tasty nonetheless. The service was really good. Our waitress was attentive and helpful and very friendly. We would go back again since it's close to work."

"Our server seeemed like she did not want to be there, very lack luster service on her part, just going through the motions. The bus boy was far more friendly and helpful though. Unfortunately my dates dish came out and was luke warm at best, we informed her and she failed to apologize and just replaced the dish after about 10 minutes. We ended up sharing my dish, which was delicious. No manager came to the table to say sorry, as I am sure they were not informed of the situation. I have to admit I have pretty high expectations of service, but even by low standards this was a fail."

"I love the Border Grill and usually dine in the Santa Monica location and have always found the food to be excellent. The downtown L.A. location is good and convenient as a place to dine prior to an event at the Disney Concert Hall. On the night we were there, the guacamole was fresh as always but a bit bland. My mom and I had the Poblano Chicken enchiladas and we both agreed they were the best enchiladas we've had anywhere. My dad had the chile relleno which he loved and my husband had beef enchiladas which he said were okay (but he's super picky). We loved the jalapeno margaritas and the service was excellent!"

"I had invited 4 of my clients to join me and a co-worker for a business luncheon. The host sat us toward the back which was very nice and allowed us to discuss business with less noise from other patrons. The food was awesome and everyone enjoyed it very much. This is not the first time at this establishment and very pleased each time I return with clients. Our server was attentive and did not interupt while we were in discussions. I already have another scheduled luncheon at this restaurant for next week. Also a plus, is that they validate for parking."

"The food was tasty and the servers were great. The music was on a completely different plane form the rest of the restaurant, though. If not for the music selection, the restaurant would have been approximately twice as fancy."

"Selected the restaurant due to reciews and top chef. Unfortunately was not as good as we hoped. The wait staff was very friendly and curreous. The food seemed like a lot of $$$ for so little food. We hoped the portions were larger. Thr drinks were ok. Our friend from Texas had a better idea of Mexican than we did and she was a little disappointed. We hope that others have a better experience than we did."

Friendly service but difficult to get to. Must park underground for $5 and the escalators did not work.
The Margueritas were terrible , not sure they put the tequila in??
The food was so-so, Some okay but a lot of it was greasy.
Its sad because the "two hot tamales" have always done well. Maybe they should start to pay attention again."

"A very active scene: bar crowd are professionals from the downtown area because this is located in the middle of downtown L.A. A tad on the energetic noise level but not unbearable. Just ask for a quiet spot and they are more than happy to accommodate you.
I'm a repeat guest because their food is exquisite! The herbs & spices used are traditional and, also, unexpected. Great blends & sauces! Fantastic presentation but the most important part is the flavors. A bit pricey but well worth it.
Service is impeccable! Fast, friendly and there when you need them!
Parking is great - giant underground garage. Ask for validation at the restaurant. I forgot to ask so they asked ME if I needed validation.
Overall a great establishment."

"Drinks were very good. The restaurant was busy but the service was relatively consistent. 3 of our 4 entrees were good, one came out of the kitchen lukewarm - that may be acceptable for many dishes, but not chile rellenos. Last time we were at this restaurant it was Ciudad and the quality of the food seems to have dropped since it became Border Grill."

"We had never been here before and was pleasantly surprised at the friendliness and attentiveness we received. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the spectacular view while eating dinner. All the staff was great! We had an awesome time and was excited to find out there was free shuttle service right in front of the restaurant to the Ahmanson Theatre! Score!! If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely choose Border Grill. Thanks for such a great night!"

"We were there fairly early on a Tuesday night. Quiet when we got there, more energetic as we left. The food and service were very good. I recommend the Yucatan pork. Great margaritas. Out the door in plenty of time to catch the shuttle to the Disney Hall."
