Lala Rokh
Lala Rokh, established in 1995, is located in the heart of the historic Beacon Hill, and is the namesake of Thomas Moore's 1817 romance novel. We feature Persian cuisine lovingly prepared and garnished with fragrant herbs and spices that we import directly. The recipes have been handed down from generation to generation to us from our mother who still tastes everything for quality. The restaurant is decorated with our family's one of a kind museum quality artwork. Our staff will do everything in their power to welcome you as we would to our home and provide impeccable service. Our specialty cocktails and wines have been created and picked specifically matched to our cuisine. Winner of numerous national and local awards by Gourmet, Zagat and Boston Magazine.

"This was my 3rd time at Lala Rokh and I must say it was a bit 'different'. Don't get me wrong, Lala Rokh is by far one of the best restaurants I've been in Boston and never had a disappointing meal. It just happens that I had a bad grape in the bunch, i.e. our waiter. I do not know if our waiter was new or was just his attitude towards us but I was not really pleased by his service. I would have given a 'Fair' rating if it wasn't for the over the phone assistance I received prior to the event. It was a birthday party for my girlfriend and they were very accommodating to our part size (10) and special requests. Aside from our waiter, the guests loved the restaurant, the meals, and my girlfriend had a very special night"

"The restaurant was nice and the food was absolutely amazing!! But we went for a friends birthday and even though we specified that it was his birthday, they did absolutely nothing. Also, our waiter was a bit rude and condescending. It's a classy restaurant full of adults and they seemed a bit unwelcoming to our group of 7 teens. We are very well behaved, but our waiter seemed to have something stuck up his a**."

"We were meeting old friends who we had not seen for many years. We were looking for a place with good, interesting food with a beautiful and quiet ambiance where we could talk and catch up...This place was perfect. The flavors in our dishes were delicate and delicious. The service was attentive without being interruptive and restaurant had a soft and cozy ambiance. Our friends loved it. Oh and the savory martinis were wonderful. We will be back!"

"My daughter and I met for a pre theater dinner and got there a little earlier than our reservation. We were seated immediately. Our waiter was wonderful.....stayed close but didn't hover and answered all of our questions about the menu. We both like lamb and he made some wonderful suggestions. Food was wonderful......both of our lamb dishes were amazing as was the eggplant appetizer we tried. Would definitely return."

"Food was okay and service was very attentive. If you are a fan of Persian cuisine, a few things will impress you: Kaske Bademjan, Mast-I-khiar, and Addas pollo...the Kabob Kubeedeh was also good. The Bargain, Tahdeeq, and Ghormeh Sabzee were not that great...just "okay". What struck me most about this restaurant was that the Persian owners and Persian cook never came out to check on the guests, welcome them, etc. this is profoundly confusing. I have eaten at many Persian restaurants in the US and UK...and this is the first time I have ever experienced this. Eating Persian food is about an "experience" and a feeling of warmth. That just didn't exist at Kala Rokh. The wait staff were excellent, but the Persian owners need to be present."

"The food is fabulous and authentic (or at least I saw a number of Iranian/Middle Easter families eating there so that's my proof); and quiet which is a nice break from the noise levels that dominate other great restaurants. I may be old but sometimes it is too loud! My second time there, and since I love lamb-- I love this place! Food is well prepared; rice is perfectly cooked with a nutty dry texture and lamb was tender to the bone and perfectly seasoned. I even liked the eggplant in my dish--and I don't normally."

"The appetizers were delicious and authentic, however, for the main course for lunch it was clear that the restaurant was cutting corners for restaurant week. The items they chose to include were all pretty cheap on the regular menu, and they tasted like american food. As an example, I ordered a chicken kabob wrap with lavash bread- I received a piece of white wrap bread filled with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and French's yellow mustard with a small chicken kabob.
I have been to this restaurant for dinner, and the food was amazing. It is too bad that they were so cheap for restaurant week."

The restaurant was quiet (we got there at 5:30), but by 6:30/7:00, the small room was noisy--probably too many tables too close together for such a small intimate space.

"What a lovely find in Beacon Hill. My husband and I had a weekday dinner for our anniversary here. We used to lived in London so we miss having the opportunity to grab Persian food on any corner. This definitely satisfied our craving. The food seemed very fresh. The atmosphere was quiet and romantic though the decor was very simple. The staff were friendly and welcoming. All of the food was delicious, and I quite enjoyed the rose water cocktail. I would go back if I was in the area."

"My only regret related to Lala Rokh is that I didn't know about it earlier. The food is truly fantastic, particularly anything eggplant related. I went with a group of girlfriends and we loved it - great cocktail list, great service, we could hear each other talk. Ambiance would also make a good date night."
