"Kona used to be one of our favorite restaurants but our experience seems to get worse with each successive visit over the last 2 or 3 years. My $12 top shelf martini (up) was small. The bar manager told me the glasses had recently been changed but the pour was supposed to be the same with the liquid coming to the top of the glass. You would have to see the glass for yourself to realize what a remarkably creative and humorous answer this was. To his credit, he filled my glass.
We ordered an appetizer, salad and entres together and everything arrived together. The asparagus in the salad was very fibrous. I love the Chili-glazed salmon ($21) but the portion seems to have gone from about 8 ozs to maybe 6 ozs over the years."

"Kona Grill is my favorite restaurant for any occasion. I frequent Kona often and decided to take my Mom there for Mothers Day. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately, which was quite a pleasant surprise on Mothers Day. I noticed thru out our meal everyone that walked in was seated right away! My mother and son both had the surf and turf, which is only offered a few times a year. They absolutely loved their meal, and I had my favorite sweet chili salmon, which is always excellent . We all loved the shrimp appetizer as well. The complimentary red velvet cupcake was a pleasant surprise for Mothers Day. We all left satisfied and FULL."

"We ate at the restaurant following my son's Masters graduation. The atmosphere was fun, energetic and vibrant. Appetizers were excellent - flatbread, calamari, etc. For dinner the group enjoyed the steak, some chicken and pasta, and salmon. My entree was sushi, which unfortunately wasn't as good as I had expected. It was not bad, but rather didn't seem as flavorful as I've had.
I'd definitely recommend the restaurant, but would most likely choice something else other than items off the sushi menu."

"Kona is my go-to for lunch - particularly business lunches. They have everything from sushi to a great burger (which they will cook rare - hard to find these days).
This visit I ordered from the Perfect Pairings - pick 2 items from a list for $10. I ordered the Oriental Salad and Crunchy roll - my buddy ordered two different sushi items from the PP menu as well.
We ate on the patio - only note is that the music was a bit loud for conversation.
Good food, great service!"

"Kona, Hawaiian, I get it. The wife LOVES the sushi, so this is a good fit for a carnivore like myself. I do wish though, there was one dish that didn't have the Hawaiian flair.
Be ready for Ginger, Pineapple, and Soy sauce to permeate everything. Great Rib-eye steak soaked in soy and pineapple....Wish I had the option to just grill it with salt and pepper...but I don't!
Overall a great place that seems to cater well to groups (another reason I feel a non Hawaiian option would be appropriate). Awesome service and great ambiance."

"Our experience, food and wait staff, was very nice. The only problem was that where we were seated was a path for the bus people, and althought I pulled my chair in at least three times and did not push it back out, the bus staff still seemed to run into my chair. Being only 5 feet tall and of small frame, I found it ironic that they could not go around me. The last collision actually resulted in my body being pushed into the table. Since we were done eating and just having an after-dinner cocktail, we saw that as our que to leave."

"While the dinner was excellent I was disappointed with dessert - We ordered the Banana Cream Pie and it was more like Banana Cheesecake - - Super heavy not at all light...
I also specified that it was a special occasion for my brothers bday and asked if they did something special - - Since nothing was done I assumed they didn't, although as we were leaving there were red velvet cakes with candles brought to another table.. Did they just ignore my comments on the OpenTable form???
And the server, while pleasant, and did her job, was not very attentive to our table, we actually left after waiting 20min for her to come back for the bill!
I dont think I will be going there again anytime soon..."

"Kona Grill offered an extensive selection of sushi and sashimi dishes. We didn't make it to the other side of the menu after filling up on the sashimi flight, the grilled asparagus salad (outstanding) and two of the delicious speciality rolls.

"Kona Grill has a variety of menu items to please mostly anyone from sushi to burgers. Everything is more 'gourmet' than you might find with similar menu items and the atmosphere is appropriately more classy, similar to a J. Alexanders. I enjoy going there and the service has always been fantastic."

"This was our third time there, but probably our last. It was good, but not great. Our service was just okay. We hadn't even finished our appetizers when the main course came (too quickly) and the table hasn't been cleared. Most of our main courses were either over salted, had too much pepper, or were bland, but our waiter didn't come back to check on us until the meal was nearly finished. We had a reservation but had to wait 25 minutes for a table. The reason I gave it 3 stars, is we had been there previously and loved it...this time not so much. We probably won't be running back anytime soon, but would recommend people to give it a try."

"Sashimi Starter was delicious. The wave roll was very good as well, however the other roll we had (forgot the name) was quite bland and we were slightly disappointed. The artichoke/spinach dip was one of the best I've had in a very long time. Service was good, were never brought waters in the beginning and seemed to take a while to get them, however, understandable as it was a Friday night."

"To me this is the best restaurant for consistently good Sushi in the Suburbs.
It's also refreshing to visit a suburban restaurant that puts a priority on people who made reservations and that hold true to their reservation times.

"Had a lovely waitress who worked hard and provided good service. However, the bar seemed to be having issues keeping up, so we didn't get our drinks (bottle of wine) until our food was served. Bartender seemed to have trouble managing orders with the restaurant being busy. Waitress was apologetic and otherwise service was great."

"This was my second visit to Kona Grill, several years after my first. I was shocked by how much prices had been raised, and the food was nothing special. I had the macadamia crusted chicken and it was too salty yet bland. $20 for a meal with one chicken breast. Service was good, but we won't be going back"

"Gave a lower star for ambiance only because we were seated in the outskirt of the restaurant (side room with fireplace and tv's). I assume it was because we brought our one year old with us (which is completely fine and understandable), but it kind of took away the fun of being out a nice restaurant among other diners. Food was still great, server was excellent and everything else was perfect."

"We sat in the heated outdoor patio area. It was chilly at first, but once the heaters came on, it was very relaxing. The food was great, our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered suggestions for us. We ate off of the happy hour menu, which had a good selection. There were four of us and the appetizers we ordered were perfectly proportioned for our group. It can be a little noisy on the patio, but I have eaten inside as well and found it easy to have a conversation."

"This was the 1st time My wife and I have eaten at Kona Grill. Here our the complaints, offered no water, ordered and appetizer and no plates or silverware to eat appetizer. main meal came which was ok, but once again had to ask for more silverware. employees seemed too occupied to help us. For a $100.00 meal I would think you should get better service. Probably wont return, and will spread the word about this place."
