"The food served was excellent, my wife had the French onion soup and I had a wedge salad , both were very good. My 14 ounce rib-eye was cooked just right and was seasoned perfectly as was her filet. The creamed spinach was one of the best I have ever had and the augratin potatoes were very good too. We finished with a fruit crisp that was a sweet and crunchy delight. Our only complaint would be the too small mojitos for $24, we feel a $12 drink should be a little bigger.The same goes for the $15 glass of wine that was only 1/3 of a glass. We feel that a glass of wine should be at least 2/3 full. Overall we felt this is definitely a place we will return for another steak dinner sometime in the future and we will highly recommend it."

"We were impressed that they had a special menu for my husband's birthday celebration. Although we did not order from the menu, I still brought it home to remind us how special the dinner was. Everybody was pleased with their orders. My pear and gorgonzola salad came without the gorgonzola, but once our waitress found out, she brought a little bowl of the cheese ready to throw into the salad. My husband always loved the scalloped potatoes and was not disappointed this time. My son devoured his ribeye steak which was done to perfection. I am sure we will be going back for another birthday/holiday/anniversary celebration."

"Our server is awesome. He patiently explained the dish, recommended good wine, and served us good food. The 12oz steak my husband ordered (medium rare) was a little over cooked and fairly dry. I ordered the restaurant week menu. My salad, on the other hand, is so well balanced and full of flavor. My two sampler meat portion also medium rare were moist and tender. Love it! In general, it's a good meal. A little disappointed on the meat for a steakhouse though."

"Went for my wife's birthday and while we've had nice diners in the past, this one missed the mark. Food was good, flavorful and hot (except the mushrooms which had to go back) but the presentation was a bit lacking as in the past. Our server on the other hand was cold. She didn't explain anything, seemed to disappear for long stretches of time, and it took a long time for any service. She didn't ask if we wanted more wine, coffee or after diner drink. During our meal, my wife noticed another server that was quite good and attentive to his table to the point of asking his name so we get him next time. Overall still a great restaurant for special occasions or just to have a nice meal in Los Gatos."

"First visit to Forbes Mill. It was crowded on Saturday eve, and we had to wait a bit to be seated, but no problem. The waiter was a bit disorganized, forgetting what wine was ordered, and confusion regarding the wine steward. The food was excellent for all of us, with filet steaks for all - very appropriate for a steak house. The Oysters Rockefeller were the best I've had, and the birthday desert as terrific. When I received the bill, there were several charges on the bill that were not ours. Needless to say, the waiter was embarrassed and eliminated the charges from the bill. However, the damage was already done to our confidence with the wait staff.
We will return for the food, but the complete package is lacking."

"My husband and I went here for an early dinner at 5:30pm on a Saturday. It took the hostesses about 5 min to contemplate on where to place us, even though the place was practically empty!! Finally, they gave us a great table in the middle of the room. The food was nothing special, we had the mixed appetizer plate ($36) with shrimp cocktail (4 shrimps), deep fried calamari (lots of them!!), and slices of Ahi Tuna (six 1inch square pieces). We also had the rib eye steaks ($39). Just to let you know, the steak came with just One baby carrot and TWO leaves of greens (literally!), no starches included with the steak, we had to order the mash potato separately for $7 dollars/dish! Overall, for that price I'd expect more imaginative food."

Only real complaint was the very casual dress of some other customers (I feel shorts and flip flops are not appropriate for a nice steakhouse, but understand Forbes can't control this and is more a reflection on the class level our society)."

"We went to Forbes on a recommendation from a friend who's a complete freak for steaks. I myself love a great cut of beef, so I was all about it. I don't have time for a novel, so let me just say that ALL the food was very good. (the crab cakes were only good) At our table we got a filet, a NY, and a surf and turf which was a small filet and an 8oz australian lobster tail. Everyone had a clean plate and a smile, so I would feel confident in ordering just about anything from this place.
The only area that needed work was the tempo of the meal. When I'm spending over $400 on dinner, I don't want the food to come on top of itself. I felt like we were in the middle of the morning rush at Stacks. Slow it down Forbes...slow it down."

"The staff at Forbes Mill was excellent. Our childcare plan fell through and we ended up bringing our 4-month old, unsure of how this would be received. The staff were able to find us a nice booth located where the little ones noises wouldn't bother other diners. They were also very helpful in altering my wife's entrees to avoid dairy. The food was excellent, and the wine list is (IMO) the best in the Los Gatos area."

"My husband and I were here on a Sunday evening for our anniversary. The service was average for a high-end restaurant. The food was outstanding. The oysters were the best I ever had, except for one that was bad. When we let the waiter know this, he took the whole serving off the bill. My husband had a delicious fish-and-crab entree. I had a rib-eye steak that was done to perfection. They even had a good decaf espresso! The street is cozy and with a warm ambiance on this the first summer night of the year. The restaurant interior is steakhouse classic, a bit too dark for my taste, but very nice. Large chairs and sufficient space between tables."

"Great food. Steaks are always cooked as requested and very tasty. It's too bad they don't have smaller steaks for kids (They had a 6 oz, but no 4 oz), but they were very flexible about having a larger steak split in two for our two kids. It tends to be a little 'chilly' in there, so definitely prepare for a little bit of a cooler environment. Portions are a good size (not overly large, nor ridiculously small). Sides are good for sharing. Sauteed spinach and the mushrooms were very good. Mac and Cheese was 'ok'. Filet was delicious. French Onion soup was very good, but the red wine within it was a little stronger than preferred, but that's a subject taste."

"Our waiter was fabulous. Food was delicious. Portion size was just right. My husband had his birthday. He took the option of getting a steak, fish and lamb plus appetizer and dessert for $59. My seafood risotto was delicious. One of my daughters had the halibut and she really enjoyed it. My other daughter had the appetizer sampler. She loved that. Desserts were fabulous. My husband had the chocolate cake, I had the creme bulee, my one daughter had the sorbet. Everything was delicious."

"My husband & I came here for an anniversary (it was our first time at this restaurant) and I would give it 6 out of 5 stars if I could. Everything from our waiter Tim who was extremely knowledgable and the ambience to the outstanding food was over the top. I had the crab encrusted sea bass and it was the best thing I have ever tasted, EVER! My husband who is not the easiest foodie to please was stunned from the superb cauliflower bisque, the filet mignon that melted in his mouth through to the passionfruit cheesecake. I've never heard him be so silent! ;0)
I would recommend this place especially if its for a special occasion. Forbes Mill Steakhouse will definitely impress the toughest of critics."

"We had an excellent dinner at Forbe's. We always order the 14 oz ribeye and it has never disappointed us. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. The drinks are also very good there. "Had a fabulous celebratory dinner for my son's birthday. They even printed their nightly menu with a Happy Birthday message for him. Accidentally when one of the dishes we asked to be boxed up to go didn't get boxed up....they made up a small portion for us to take home. Now that is classy!"

"The main thing that I must say is that this place is definitely overpriced. The quality of the food does not nearly match either the quantity or the quality. I ordered the seafood risotto and the first thing I noticed was how salty it was! There was way too much sodium in this dish and for $28 I would say it was not worth it. My dad purchased the 8 oz filet mignon and for almost $40 all he got was a piece of meat on a very large plate with one or two pieces of broccoli and a small baby carrot. That's it! As far as the quality of the meat goes, I tried it and in my opinion it was just as good as any $20 cut you would get in a cheaper steakhouse. Overall our experience was OK but the prices were just WAY too high."

"I took three guests to Forbes Mill on Friday night. We were looking forward to a special evening with good food and great service. While the food was good..not amazing..the service was so poor I was really sorry to have spent so much money on the meal ( nearly $400 with tip for 4 people). The waiter was basically absent and when he did manage to come he barely missed a step as he got out a robotic " how is everything " and walked away. He did take some time for warmth as he left the check though; tip time brought out the best in him. We had no "thank you for coming " from the two hostesses who were chatting when we left."

"Have driven by this restaurant many times without noticing. It's a quiet nondescript building along the avenue. The service was top notch-very attentive. The restaurant asked at confirmation about any special instructions. I told them we have someone celebrating their birthday. Upon arrival, the staff made every effort to make him feel special. Our menus arrived with a personalized prix fixe menu honoring our birthday boy--very thoughtful touch. The food was across the board wonderful, from fish to chicken to steak, all outstanding. We ordered dessert and they surprised us with a special birthday chocolate lava cake with the plate decorated with Happy Birthday written in chocolate. Lovely... From beginning to end this dinner was flawless!"

"It was my first visit to Forbes Mill, after hearing many good reviews from family and friends. My wife and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary there recently. The food was fantastic! Everything was prepared perfectly and exploding with flavor. The only negative aspect was the place was very noisy. it wasn't just one table nearby, it seemed the whole place was packed with diners who were just having a great time. Though it wasn't the anniversary dinner experience we were expecting, the food more than made up for it and we left quite pleased."

"Food was lovely. Loved the fried calamari which had flavor of truffle oil. Also loved the Kobe Filet Mignon, it was tender and very flavorful. The wine list was quite expensive, at least for me. Liked the ambiance, very cozy and romantic. Service was very good, however, we didn't quite understand why the server kept on coming back and asking us if we were done with our appetizer. My conclusion was because they don't serve main entree without taking out the plates from the appetizer. Other than that, we had a very lovely dinner."
