"As usual the food was very good and the staff friendly. The only downside to this visit was that the service was very slow. The restaurant did not appear to be very busy, so not sure what was going on. Fortunately we were not in a hurry and it wouldn't prevent me from going again."

"This was my first time in Minneapolis, and this was a fantastic place to go. No regrets at all. I got the mushroom gnudi with salmon, and it was absolutely delicious! I took a picture, and by uploading it on onto Foursquare / Facebook, they gave me free dessert - I got the dark chocolate truffle tart which was rich and divine. Service was immaculate - I came in, the bartender asked if I wanted to sit down, I said yes, and I ended up getting served by a really fun and nice waitress. Definitely recommending! I wish I was coming back to Minneapolis again soon to try another dish."

"I decided to take my family to Fire Lake due to the great reviews and a little adventure because we have never been or even heard of the restaurant.
Absolutely fabulous! the atmosphere was wonderful; we went right after church service so around 3:00pm. Our waiter was very patient and knowledgeble of the menu and with my grandmother's request. We had a wonderful time! We will definitely be back ; maybe for a dinner next time!"

"my son and I always enjoy the MN connections to most of the food. A friend wanted to try the restaurant one nite and she raved about her food choice.
As a mother, i really enjoy the extra special gift on Mother's Day. We walk past several DT restaurants with good food, but none treat mom like Firelake does."

"Even in a small room with several other occupied tables, it didn't feel crowded or loud. The waffles were excellent, and the turkey sausage was a nice surprise (actually an almost delayed spice). Although I don't really care for pulp in my orange juice, I should have asked how they served their mimosas, I guess. Very nice, hope to go back soon!"

"Several of the seasonal dishes revolved around salmon; both of the appetizers from that part of the menu were excellent. For the main course my wife had the flatbread with duck and fig - this was a nice combination of flavors, slightly marred because the flatbread had been cooked to the point where it was difficult to cut. My main dish was the corn-crusted walleye, which was a bit dry and definitely unexciting. I've had better, tastier walleye elsewhere. The cocktail list was somewhat limited and had an over-reliance on pineapple. The wine list was heavy on California wines and even included a Minnesota wine (!) but the strange lack of French wines was made stranger by the inclusion of wines from even further (Argentina, Australia)."

They ended up being seated at another table while I waited at another table for 20 minutes before realizing they were at another table and joined them. No one at the restaurant seemed concerned by this or that I had wasted agoodamount of my lunch hour needlessly waiting. I don't plan on ever returning or recommending this place to anyone else."

"My boyfriend and I went to Firelake for our anniversary and couldn't have asked for a better place to go. It was romatic and cozy. The prices weren't bad at all (most expensive entree probably $30.)

"Food was great. I had the bacon wrapped buffalo rib-eye, which itself was great. But the sauce it came with was awesome. It was almost like a cocktail sauce, but slightly sweeter. The only issue we had was that the beer I ordered apparently wasn't in stock (Lift Bridge's Imp Stout), so the waiter brought me a saison instead without saying anything. Other than that, he was very helpful in navigating the best items on the menu."

"Under the direction of Chef Jim Kyndberg, FireLake is emerging as a well-respected destination in the Minneapolis downtown dining scene. We have followed Chef Jim from his Bayport Cookery days through his turns at The Kitchen, Locavores, Crave and now Firelake, so we knew to expect good food from his kitchen, but our experience definitely far exceeded our expectations! Everything we had was great, and the rotisserie duck was especially memorable - maybe the best duck I've ever had. The flavors were fantastic, the meat juicy and delicious and everything worked together on the plate to make it superbly delicious. We will be back."

"We haven't eaten at FireLake in quite awhile, but had been pleased in the past. I met friends for dinner after work and we needed to be conveniently located. I was charged with finding a restaurant that they hadn't tried before so I chose FireLake. We were very pleased. We all had the walleye dinner, which was excellent. The service was very good and the server was very efficient. We were seated directly in front of the open kitchen, which was pretty warm and somewhat noisy. Although it did not inconvenience us, when I dine there in the future, I would probably ask to be seated a bit further away from the kitchen. Other than that, our dining experience was very good. Would definitely recommend FireLake!"

"I ordered the Mesquite Grilled Striped Bass dinner. I asked my waiter to describe the meal. What I did not understand was that the fish would be "blackened" and would be spicy. My stomach is sensitive to any hot spices. What was even more disappointing was that the vegetables that came with the meal were totally over-powered with the same spice flavor. Needless to say I was unhappy with my choice."

"Good. Have been before & it's always been good. I like the MN-regional bent to the menu.
My early 60 yo parents are steak & chop house-types & they really liked it. We tend to be more foodies, so I just thought it was ok to good this time...not awesome. It was surprisingly dead too for a Saturday night.
Honestly for a hotel restaurant I'd say its pretty dang good, but if you are a Cities person I'd say its good but it's not as great as many others you could find.
We had the artichoke/spin dip (ok, cheeses, mayo/sour creamy, light on the artichokes), goat cheese salad, and mesquite sirloin (more like a lean prime rib & light on mesquite, thyme was great though)."

"We went with a group of friends and none of us had ever been to FireLake Grill House prior to this visit. The restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere and great service. The meal was brought to us in a timely manner and every dish was absolutely fabulous. We are definitely going to count FireLake Grill House as a favorite on our list of Minneapolis restaurants."

"I went to FireLake for dinner with some friends - it was my first time there. I thought the decor was nice, but nothing too special. I ordered the chicken pot pie, and it was tasty. My martini was just okay - again, nothing spectacular. We were there on a Thursday evening, and although the restaurant didn't look full, it seemed very loud. I noticed an open room near our table that I believe the restaurant advertises as "private", but it just has a curtain that is pulled for privacy = not private. I would go here again if invited to meet friends, but I wouldn't choose it on my own - I know of several other places in the area with better food and more unique ambiance for the price."

"It's was good, however, I really didn't think their restaurant week menu was anything special. It wasn't enough to make me rush in there again for a meal. Nothing wrong, but nothing exceptional. They have that fabulous looking grill area/open kitchen that looks impressive. It's really too bad because we eat out a lot and are DT regularly. Always on the hunt for an exceptional eating experiences."

"My wife and I took advantage of restaurant week to check out the Firelake Grill House in downtown Minneapolis. Both she and I were VERY impressed with the wonderful service and superb food we experienced. I started with a beet and goat cheese salad. The beets tasted like they had been picked that day. For my entree I went with the Duck Strigoloni and my wife went with the Hereford Strip Sirloin. Her steak was perfectly cooked and she absolutely loved the loaded fingerling potatoes that came with the meal. I was absolutely blown away by my meal. In fact the sauce was so delicious that I mentioned to the waiter that I, an avowed carnivore, could actually see myself ordering the vegetarian version of the meal. Dessert, outstanding."

"We were there for Sunday brunch. The service was spotty, with multiple people involved in seating us and taking our orders. Our waitress was not helpful with the menu, and the food took a long time to be served considering there weren't a lot of people there. The breakfast items were very overpriced for eggs and hash browns, and not very good. The hamburger was actually delicious, as were the french fries, but no one else liked their meal. The topper to the meal was that the pen they gave me to sign the credit slip was broken, and I had to borrow one from my wife. We will not return."
