"Before visiting San Diego, I did a lot of research in to the top chefs in the area. Carl Schroeder did not disappoint! My partner and I visited Market on our last evening in the area and tried the tasting menu with wine pairings. We made sure to select opposite items so we could try as much of the menu as possible. Wow. Every bite was perfect. If you're a foodie, don't miss this one."

"This restaurant is a gem! I live in Orange County and when I come down to San Diego I love going to Market. The service is excellent. They give us immediate attention, but they don't rush you. Always have great specials. I've had several of their menu choices and everything I've tasted is outstanding. I love that they change their menu so you always have something new to look forward to."

"We went to Market during a restaurant week 3 years ago. Then after trying few restaurants around the city, we had to go back to Market, simply because many 4+ star restaurants end up disappointing you, most likely because their food quality is not consistent. Service and Ambience aren't the problem with these places. With Market, however, we found that the ambience was better than before and the food was just as good as before (if not a slightly bit better). It is a restaurant where I wouldn't mind paying full price for almost any entree on their menu."

"The evening started out well, though there was some awkwardness about cocktails before dinner. The server seemed to want to slide up to our table rather than approach directly (maybe an individual quirk but a little strange). Certainly the food was good, with the quality of freshness that one expects in any good restaurant in California, and from salad to a very-interesting dessert, the food did not disappoint. But towards the latter part of the meal the service began to wane and, even for a short time, seemed to have stopped (delay in getting dessert). The wine steward was helpful in helping choose a wine but I want to say that the wine was warmer than I expected. Ultimately I was there for the food and enjoyed a good meal."

"We just recently ate at The Market for the first time, and we were absolutely blown away at how amazing the food tasted! We love going to new places to see how they are, and we are so glad that we came to The Market. Our server was Terra (sp?), and she was very knowledgeable, friendly, and very professional. I wanted to be daring and try one of their "Adventurous White Wines" that I had never even heard of, but I wanted to make sure that it would pair well with their Lobster Special. Terra gave me an excellent recommendation, because it paired beautifully with the Lobster and all of the veggies it came with. I can't wait until the next time we eat there! I also can't wait to try their sushi!!! Eat at The Market! You won't regret it!"

"The tasting menu is the way to go. You get to taste quite a few things and you are very full at the end. Everything is fresh and inventive and so flavorful. I am seriously - seriously - looking for another restaurant in San Diego that compares. I haven't yet found it. (Accepting suggestions). The price tag is higher than your regular everyday place (our bill was $200 for 2 including tip, no alcohol) but being someone who sometimes suffers from shoppers remorse, I have no regrets dropping money here. It's just that good and so worth it. And who wants to waste money on food that isnt good? I really wish I could ask what the chef's favorite restaurants are. I bet he'd have some suggestions for me!"

"OMG. This place is a hidden gem. We had the BEST time for my birthday. Love the food! Not only did I love the food but I loved my waiter!!!! He was awesome. So Classy…. I could go on an on! I had the salmon and am still savoring the mashed potatoes.. I need the recipe. Thank you to all the staff!! Bryan LaFontaine (General Manager)is the best!!!! "We were very impressed with the chef's adventurous menu. The restaurant is casual but has un upscale feel to it. One of the things they are proud of! I had their beet and goat cheese salad that included pink grapefruit, something that was delicious. They also use local ingredients! The service was also very good. Very enjoyable experience!"

"What a pleasant surprise! For years this location has been the kiss of death but Market has been successful here. Why? Food, service and little touches such as a complimentary amuse and homemade caramels presented with the check. Our server was wonderful and all her suggestions were perfect. The hamachi appetizer, cabernet short ribs and the market bars were wonderful. Eager to try other things on our next visit.
Have already recommended it to friends and want to bring people with us next time."

"We arrived at 5:30 p.m. for a 6:15 p.m. reservation as our prior activity ended early. The restaurant was EMPTY yet they made us wait until exactly 6:15 p.m. for seating. It seemed ridiculous to us to make us wait so long. Perhaps when making a reservation, the restaurant should let you know this policy so you don't suffer a waiting period should you arrive early...makes a diner a bit aggravated!"

"We enjoyed a pre-Valentine's Day dinner at Market. Both our waiter and the sommelier were extremely knowledgeable, and helpful in their suggestions. Our appetizers and entrees were fresh, interesting-tasting, and attractively presented. Only regret was that we had no room for dessert. Would definitely dine here again, if visiting the Del Mar area. Only criticism was the "buzz" was a little too high for a romantic dinner. Marginally behaved teens next to us did not add to the ambience."

"My wife and I have dined at Market several times, and have never been disappointed in the food or service. We recently took friends of ours there for dinner. This couple had never been to the restaurant. They were absolutely blown away by the fine dining experience. As we sipped our after dinner coffee, the friends stated it was the best meal they had EVER had. And she's a very good cook. The poached lobster special was exquisite and the Wagu beef two-ways was excellent. And the bottle of Seasmoke Pinot complemented both perfectly. Market is the best restaurant in the San Diego area."
