Welcome to the Blue Marlin Restaurant, proudly serving "A Taste of the Southern Low Country," located in Columbia South Carolina's thriving Congaree Vista District.
Stretching from Savannah to the South, and Georgetown to the North, the Low Country is resplendent with the bounties of the sea and coastal marshlands. Succulent shrimp, oysters, crabs, crawfish and catfish abound. Lush greens, corn, rice and ripe red tomatoes are plentiful. Low Country cuisine brings all of this food together in a sumptuous array of unique and distinctive dishes.
"My meal (I forget the menu name) consisted of a wonderful, perfectly cooked steak, with the best grits I have ever experienced in my life. As it was my 70th birthday dinner being enjoyed with my wife and my sister who was in from New York, I could not have invented a better dining experience. All three of us experienced excellent food, a member of the wait staff who was gracious, timely, and wonderful (Amanda was her name), and a no hurry ambience that made my day. Thank you Blue Marlin!!! And thank you for those grits!"

"Great seafood served low country style. They were backed up for Fathers Day which is understandable. Had to ask for our bread but it then came out post-haste!
Nice people, great food, good value."

"Ambience was great, slightly loud but not overbearing. Our appetizer, fried green tomatoes, were very light and delicious. The Fried Gulf Shrimp dinner was superb. My husband was not as pleased with his dinner. Crab Cake was a little salty, and the collard greens were Not tasty at all ( tasted vinegary, yet like sugar was added)...you could tell they were from a can! Our waiter was on top of things. I drinks were always filled, he was on point with his social graces. We went around 2pm on Fathre's Day so it was crowded. I am so glad I used Opentable to make reseravations. We walked in and were seated within 10 minutes. I definitely would go back, next time during dinner hours, cause there was only one steak option for lunch."

"My fiancé and I had one night in Columbia and chose to eat at the Blue Marlin. After checking into our hotel, we took a taxi and were about 30 minutes early for our reservation. We were seated promptly with a smile. Sean was our server, and he was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had a fantastic meal and I loved my salmon! My fiancé ordered a steak, and although we were comfortable with it, our server felt that it was slightly overcooked. Without our prompting, the manager came over and apologized for the error and told us that they would be replacing the steak with another full meal. It said a lot to us that our server would express concerns about the quality of our experience. Great food and service!!!!"

"Ambience was better nearer the bar -- livelier, brighter. We sat in a booth along a side wall. Best dish was the wedge salad by far -- typical iceberg but with addition of candied pecans and lots of bacon. Huge portion -- plenty for two. On the down side: Soup luke warm and tasted like gussied-up canned soup. Shrimp and grits were fine; amberjack OK; chicken overcooked; crab cake with a strange floral aftertaste (could not eat it); rib-eye was fatty (even for a rib-eye) and thin and flavorless, too. Sides were miserable: cold, gloppy mashed potatoes and "sauteed" string beans that tasted like frozen. Bill was reasonable at about $130 before tip for four people. But we won't go back."

"Lunch meal of four different salads was excellent. Weather perfectly accommodated outside seating. We did, however, have to ask for our initial wait staff to attend to us and noted that at least two tables that were seated following our arrival has their food brought to them ahead of our meals. Nevertheless, would return for another visit."

"The Blue Marlin was great. Having lived in Columbia for as long as I have I never really ventured out. I am glad I picked this restaurant The food was perfectly season. My boyfriend and I had the petite shrimp and grits, appetizer crab cake, The Amberjack plate and the firecraker flounder. All was very very good."

"First and foremost the food was great. We made the mistake of sitting in a small booth right along the Main walkway.everyone walks by at racing speed.unfortunately the two guys sitting across from us garnered most of the waitress attention, and used profanity in each sentence.they received some kind of discount from their waitress.i think we should have sat outside. But the food was very good!"

"I took my wife here for her birthday and having lived in the Columbia area for a while we decided to finally go to the "legendary" blue marlin. We made reservations a day in advance and when we arrived we were told that our table would be ready in 15 minutes. We waited 10 minutes and were seated in a cozy booth. We ordered the pecan dusted calamari which was ok. The aioli sauce was nice but the majority of our calamari ended up looking like crumbs from the bottom of a cereal box. My menu had surf and turf on it but when I ordered that I was told that I had the old menu. I was offered a filet mignon topped with crab and shrimp (kinda sounds like surf and turf to me). Overall we spent $98.02 on 2 beers a piece, an appetizer and our entrees."

"Not a good night for the Blue Marlin. Entrees were rushed out on top of appetizers. Shrimp and grits were bland. Lots of grits; few shrimp. It's been much better on other occasions, so hopefully this was an abberation."

"As always the food was outstanding. I love taking my out of town customers here to experience what REAL Southern food is about. As usual they were impressed and blown away by the food. The appetizer sampler was a great special to have as it showcased the variety of Southern favorites. The She crab soup and Shrimp and grits were wonderful as they always are."

"The Shrimp and Grits are worth the trip alone. My wife who dosen't eat seafood, reluctantly agreed to go. She ordered the Charbroiled Ribeye and said it was one of the best steaks she's ever had, and at a reasonable cost. Also ordered the Scallop dinner and the Tile fish special, all of which were excellent."

"Based on the menu, I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I made reservations at the Blue Marlin for my brother's graduation dinner. The food did not live up to the way it was described on the menu. Overly salted and overly creamy, almost everyone in the party was unhappy with their food. Aside from that, the staff could not have been nicer, from the hostess who greeted us to our waiter."

"Easy walking distance from Colonial Life Arena. Perfect spot to celebrate SC graduation. Unique food choices with a southern flair. She-crab soup had large lumps of crab and was perfectly seasoned. Firecracker flounder, crabcakes, and tilapia all were delicious. Glad we saved room for dessert - - the cheesecake was the best we have ever had!"

"My family and I came here for dinner and had an all around wonderful time. The hosts were very friendly an even though they were extremely busy we felt very welcome apon entering. We were given a large booth and were greeted by our sever right away. We had the special appitizer to start which had crab cakes (which are some of the best I've ever had) spicy shrimp, fried green tomatoes and home made pimento cheese with chips. I had the shrimp and grits, which I highly recommend. Every one was very happy with their food and we will go back for sure."

"Great atmosphere and excellent service. Unfortunately the food was only ok. My steak was a few seconds from well done when it was ordered medium. My wife's mahi was good but eat under seasoned. The shrimp & crab topping was very fishy tasting. Like the crab was a bit old. Sides were way uneventful. Had been looking forward to going. Won't go back at the prices they charge for mediocre food."

"Shrimp and grits portion seemed a little small where the Fried Green Tomato Salad was too large to finish. Since it was already dressed it did not last well to be eaten as a leftover."

"We were there the Friday after Valentines Day so the restaurant was very crowded. We were a little concerned that we were going to have to wait even though we had a reservation because the hostess staff seemed a little out of sorts. We were seated promptly, however and in spite of a wait for our server to acknowledge we were there, the service ended up being outstanding. The food was wonderful The restaurant was a little noisy for our taste but it was the day after Valentine's Day. We would definitely try it again the next time we're in Columbia."

"Visited Columbia for Valentine's Day and enjoyed our dinner at the Blue Marlin. We arrived a little before our reservation and enjoyed the bar area. The restaurant was busy but they were able to seat us prior to our reservation. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu & the Columbia area, in general. He was attentive but did not interrupt. We would go back again!"

"I recently went to South Carolina and was looking for a place to take my soldier for lunch the day of his graduation. We kept seeing the blue marlin in our searches so we decided to try I out. I thought the food was fantastic! I'm not someone who tries to be a food critic and puts a nose up at chain restaurants like a lot of reviews that I see but overall the price and the taste of the dish I ordered(I got penne chicken pasta forget the actual name) was great. The staff was friendly and very attentive also!"

"Both my husband and I enjoyed a wonderful Lunch. The service was super. The food portion for Lunch was a good. The food presentation was appetizing, it looked picture perfect. The food was fresh tasty and savory without being too salty. We ate all of the bread that was served with our meal. It was so good. We weren't able to have dessert, we were too full! Next time I'll forego breakfast to make room for coffee and dessert."
