"My girlfriend and I chose MK as the place to celebrate my 30th birthday, and we decided to go with the recommended tasting menu, with pairings. What a fantastic choice that was! Each course was more delicious than the last, and the wines we tried (I counted six) were all equally fantastic. My only complaint here was that we felt somewhat rushed, and often had more than one glass of wine on the table at a time. I know it's a busy restaurant and it was a Saturday night, but it would have been nice to not feel hurried out. Overall, though, in combination with the truly exceptional and attentive service, lovely atmosphere, and scrumptious food, this was a wonderful treat."

"Bread and apps were very good. Main courses just okay. My medium rare steak was medium at best and my wife's white fish and lobster was a bit tough. Deserts were just fair. Fries were a bit weird tasting, we had to send them back and get mashed which were good. Service was decent. When I pointed out the steak was not medium rare I was told that it would be more red near the center. It wasn't. It was still tasty because it is such a good cut of meat but I found the server a little defensive about it instead of being willing to say "yeah, that's definitely medium, should I get you another one?". I probably would have stuck with it but it would have been nice to have the offer of a replacement in any case. Too $$$ for the what it was."

"We took the tasting menu with wine pairing. We had a great time and would definitely go again. The cod was amazing, and so was the beef. The food was inventive and the wine pairing was excellent with some interesting moves (e.g. red on fish). The noise level was a bit high to our taste and the tables are a bit close to each others, but the staff was great. Highly recommended."

"I had booked a large party for Tuesday night. I called to cancel the day before because of a mix up and was informed the cancellation penalty is $50 PER PERSON, which would have been $600! So, we went, and the restaurant was 1/2 empty the whole time -- meaning our reservation had not displaced a single patron. Based on the rigidity of this policy, I wouldn't go back and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone else.
The food was good but inconsistent. Steak portion was generous and delicious, salmon entree was tiny and nearly $40 (for salmon I am pretty sure was farmed - outrageous for the price.)
Very expensive, not sure it was worth it."

"This is the fifth meal I have had at MK, and each one has been extraordinary. The menu changes frequently, so I have the occassion o sample many dishes...none have diappointed me. I eat fish and seafood regularly since I live and vacation on the coast. The grilled octopus was well prepared. The Alaskan halibut was truly special. The desserts were heavenly.

"This remains our current favorite in Chicago. We get to the city about twice a year. We continue to love the food--its quality and its originality without being too fussy. We brought friends from NJ with us and they were very impressed. The service was good as usual and we enjoyed the meal thoroughly. The restaurant is attractive in an open kind of way. It's not exactly cozy but there's still something about it that you remember favorably after some time."

"Disclosure: I am in the wine business and I eat out a lot. MK is (currently) not a customer of mine but my wife and I were in Chicago for the weekend and looking for something a little different.
MK is the best dinner we've had in the year at a place where they weren't already a customer of mine.
Tasting menu was great, each dish proverbially better than the last, though the white fish with beluga lentils and caviar will be remembered for a long time.
I appreciated them letting me open a bottle of my 2007 Batasiolo Barolo cru Corda della Briccolina to help make the night even more special. Service was great all around."

"Had dinner on Saturday night for my wife's birthday and was dissapointed from the moment I walked in. The service is horrific for this caliber of restaurant. Little things went wrong - the person who walked us to our table did not pull out my wife's chair and we were never offered a black napkin. And big things went wrong - waiters were always confused/disorganized/unknowledgable/unpolished, there were huge lapses in time between being checked on or served courses, servers dropped someones entire order causing a huge mess on two occassions, and I was overcharged (which was rectified). As for the food, both the lobster and the procuitto salad were excellent. Pork/shrimp and whitefish/lobster entrees were good, but not great. Good ambiance."

"Well-executed food. Loved the complimentary sturgeon starter. Highly recommend the mk anniversary cocktail. Started with a delicious curry, cauliflower soup! Followed by the skate, very moist & well-prepared. My skate was a thicker filet than the one served at a table next to us. Her skate were two filets that were thin, like sole. There was a slight spice on the skate & mine was perfect while the table next to us shared that they thought it was a bit spicy but still well-prepared. My husband enjoyed his bison, which was cooked perfectly & also indulged in the cake & shake dessert. Happier with our server than our waiter. She seemed more knowledgable, very friendly, attentive & welcoming. Our waiter disappeared, attending other tables."

"We were married on wife's birthday. MK noted both, and made the effort to write Happy Anniversary on our menu, and both Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday in chocolate on the dessert plates. We both had the tasting menu and it was great throughout -- no weak dishes.
The staff also greeted us and wished us farewell with the appropriate "Happy's", indicating they had been briefed and had paid attention.
The service and food was very good, not hurried, and our party of four -- another couple had driven in to the city to meet us -- had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Highly recommended."

"I met my mom in Chicago (me fromt he east coast, her from mid west) for a birthday weekend celebration. My husband and I love Chicago and never miss MK on our trips. This time was no exception. We loved the food, choices and preparation were excellent, as was the service. We were seated and looking at the menus, when a rather noisy table was seated next to us. I was not even finished explaining to the hostess, and she was already planning our reseat on her screen. Such outstanding staff makes MK's food and atmosphere shine even more. What an excellent package."

Our server's sense of pace for the evening was perfect and we never felt rushed as we ordered salads and our main entrees. My wife ordered the whitefish and lobster and it was wonderful. I ordered the seared peppercorn crusted tuna and it may have been the best I have ever had. Perfectly seared and you could easily cut the medallions with a fork. We finished with a shared desert and cappaccinos. Their servers work in pairs, always near, never intrusive. You must go here!"

"We did the tasting menu and while the food was decent, it certainly was not worth the price. The wait staff was overworked and for 3 of the 6 courses either did not know what they were serving or told us incorrect information. The wine pairings were great but again the staff couldn't tell us anything about what was served."

"THE BEST MEAL WE HAVE HAD IN CHICAGO. You can't go wrong with any of the fish dishes, we had the seared ahi tuna, salmon, and white fish and we couldn't have been more satisfied. They treated us to an extra dessert and appetizer on the house. Our servers took incredible care of is and were extremely friendly. We enjoyed some of the other top restaurants in Chicago and no others could touch mk."

"Took my boyfriend for his 41st birthday and they have a personalized menu and dessert with candle. Sweet! We did not ordered tasting because I don't eat meat and my boyfriend does and they couldn't make portions for vegetarians that small. The chef was very kind, came out to explain to us. We ordered from a la carte menu. Beets appetizer was great! Octopus appetizer was very good in flavor but a bit over charcoal. When I mentioned to the waiter in a nice way, he came with a curry soup that was divine. We ordered the white fish and lobster for main and they were very tasty and delicious. We ordered a side of truffle fries that were divine but we could barely eat more. Of course, room for dessert always. We ordered the banana was great."

"When the waiter came to our table, we were informed that thre was only one order of tuna available and one of us wanted it so the waiter went to the kitchen and reserved the dish. After taking our orders, he came back and advised that the tuna was sold to someone else. While unhappy, my dining mate ordered the veal chop as a replacement. Unfortunately, the veal chop was stringy and came rare which made it inedible. Needless to say, she went without an entree and was very disappointed. We also had a problem with the size of the portions as two in my party ordered the bouliabaise. One of the dishes had four good size pieces of lobster while the other had two small pieces. "If I lived in Chicago I would eat here REGULARLY! Aside from being a bit loud, this is a wonderful place in terms of overall ambiance and decor. But OH, the food. Absolutely excellent! The roasted beets were a perfect kickoff-cooked perfectly, seasoned impeccably. My dining partner had the tuna tartare and almost licked his plate! :-) Our entrees were the braised short ribs and the walleye/lobster duo w/ lobster cioppino broth. The latter was amazing and the cioppino broth took me back to my nonna's kitchen - but almost better! Execution of our meals was spot on, presentation very nice and taste - over the top! And the wine list is fantastic too. Any list with 6 Turley Zins rocks in my world! I will be back next time I'm in Chicag"

"It was a great experience in general. The only complaint we had was our treatment in the bar. Our waiter was rushed and impatient . This area seems to be an afterthought. There was no wait staff committed to the bar, they just squeezed us into their workload in the dinning area. W asked for water and were told we would be seated soon and would get it' then. Not a good way to start the experience."

"An amazing food experience. Took my wife for her 30th birthday. Chef created a menu for her and personally stopped by our table a few times to check in on us.
