"We booked La Mar as date night for my husband and me, perfect! Though the restaurant is primarily seafood and Peruvian, if you are neither, you will still love it! This is a "small plates to share place", which is a good thing because you will want to try everything. Every table is served with a cone of fried plantain and sweet potato chips, ... just to keep you busy before your food comes. We ordered a total of 5 plates, but our favorites were the Ceviche Barrio, amazing mixture of flavors, and the Caprese salad. Not only were the heirloom tomatoes full and juicy, and the burrata cheese was smooth and creamy, but the sauce was soooo good we wanted to lick the plate! Empanadas and Anticuchos were amazing too! Great wine too!"

"We sat outside and had a great view of the ferries and the Bay. The heaters and transparent plastic walls protected us from any effects of the wind. The interior of the restaurant, which we passed through to get to the outside seating, was well-lit with natural light, spacious, and had a good high-energy buzz going.
The food was good, but pricey enough that we would reserve visits for very special occasions or when friends willing to treat on an expense account made us an offer. (But, hey, it's San Francisco. Not much they can do about it.)
The table service was great: attentive and helpful without being intrusive. The bar was very busy at Happy Hour when we arrived, so it took 10-15 minutes to get drinks and appetizers there."

"Cebiche is great...ordered the cebiche la mar. Not a fan of Jalei (spelling) , nikei pescado (seabass with mushrooms), or the crusted yellowtail or pannacotta however others in my party enjoyed it. Enjoyed the anticucho mixto and in comparison to the meat used in lomo saltado, the meat is more tender. Enjoy the fried plantains accompanied by the 2 sauces."

"I have been to La Mar for work lunches several times. Always fresh, vibrant, and satisfying. This dinner was better than even those experiences. We had the tuna and hamachi cebiches, the empanada sampler and arroz con pato. All excellent and worth recommending to all. Will go back again soon."

"This is my 2nd time at the restaurant for lunch. The first time I went was when the restaurant was newly opened. This visit was very different from my first time. There wasn't many people in the restaurant and the food wasn't as good as I remembered. It is still a beautiful restaurant in regards to its decor and atmosphere. I'm wondering if the menu is limited in regards to the offerings of the food from the region. It was just ok this time."

"Having eaten in the Gaston restaurants in Lima, Santiago and Caracas we were not disappointed! great attention to creative tasty cuisine. We are very particular about our dining and I must say that your restaurants have truly brightened the culinary scene in the Americas.
A delicious dinner and a great way to celebrate my daughter's birthday.

"When we asked to be seated on the patio, we were told that it had been reserved for a private party. My friend said she was told the same thing when she asked to be seated on the patio the last time she was there for dinner. Not good. Our server wasn't very attentive. Personally, I hated all his tattos I was really annoyed when someone came and took away our dishes, placemats and silverware before we even ordered dessert! I knew it was crowded, but don't rush people out or they may not come back!"

"This was the BEST Peruvian food that I have ever had! From the cebiche, to the empanadas, to the ensaladas...everything was perfect. We also had 2 different cocktails...the pesco sour and the blood and sand...both excellent...full of flavor and not overpowering in any one taste. We got to sit outside in the heated tent, and it was perfect night to observe the bay. The food is pricey, but if you are going for a special occasion, or for a romantic meal, this is the place to go and enjoy all the tastes and scene."

"We were seated on the patio and the lighting is so dim and the print so tiny on the menu that we could not read the menu, even with glasses. We finally had to turn on our iphone flashlight app to see. So we were not really sure what the dishes we ordered were composed of except the primary ingredient because we couldn't see/read the menu. Service was terrible . . . bottled water brought that was not requested, second round of drinks brought that we did not order. The chips usually brought at the beginning did not arrive until after we finished our entrees. Service was just terrible. We have been to La Mar a number of times and love the restaurant. But this experience will give us pause to return."

"Second time here and it's still very good. Great setting on the water front and very good example of Peruvian food and drinks. We had beer and cocktails, so no idea on wine list, but the Pisco drinks are good. We had ceviche, empanadas, beef heart and a causas - all were great. I'm not usually a fan of ceviche, but I really enjoyed the 2 we ordered. I am a huge fan of empanadas and really enjoyed these, especially the corn filled one, which was sweetly delicious. Our server was great and the atmosphere, with the bay view, is perfect."

"We absolutely love this restaurant! The Cebiche sampler is a must. It's so good, we continue to have it to avoid choosing one. Our favorite causas are the vegetarian and the chicken; just a cut above the rest. Even if you're there for the seafood, try the steak. Their wine list is wonderful, but try one of their sour drinks. They add whipped egg whites and the creamy consistency gives the drink that something extra."

"The service was wonderful from start to finish for lunch--they were great accommodating our request for a table with room for a stroller and the room is bright and airy. I've been here before and had the ceviche, which was wonderful. This time we both had a quinoa/veggie/seafood stirfry that was pretty awful, and I love quinoa, veggies and seafood. It didn't have much flavor at all, and tasted sort of burned and bitter, with much of the calamari overdone. I think this might have just been a "miss" of a dish, though it was quite pricy (at $20) for a simple dish that was pretty bad. I didn't eat much of it, took the rest home, and my husband, who eats ANYthing, took a few bites and threw the rest away. It just didn't taste good. At all."

"The causa tasting was delicious and arroz la mar was exceptional. We always try to have something different each time . The flavours are lovely. Always enjoy our meals there, whether lunch or dinner. The pisco cocktails too. Never disappointed. Do recommend reserving especially for dinner. Lunch can be a little difficult, but the exact same menu is served in the bar too."
