"Friendly waiter, albeit slow. Salads and appetizers arrived at the same time instead of as two separate courses. Risotto was hot, tasted nice, but was under cooked. Time between the appetizers and the main course had to have been at least forty-five minutes, if not more. When my wife's steak arrived, it was raw in the middle. She ordered medium rare and would have eaten rare, but it was cold and raw. They offered to fix the problem, but stead of proving a new, properly cooked steak, they brought back the same steak my wife cut in half earlier when she checked it. After the long delays and problems, we cut our losses and had them wrap everything up. We weren't charged for our main courses, but we shouldn't have been charged at all."

"It is very sad that a former go-to restaurant was such an epic failure. There was not a single bright spot in the whole evening. First, it took a full half hour for our drinks to arrive. When they did, my sparkling wine was flat and needed to be replaced. Another ten minutes and words with the waitress and manager. Mushroom risotto was watery. Chicken had not been trimmed properly and the first bite was all fat and gristle. French fries had been under a heat lamp for too long. Flatiron steak was mediocre at best. Waitress never came by to check on us once during the meal. The only way it might have been worse was for the valet to have lost the car."

"We made a reservation for dinner at the restaurant. Once we arrived we were promptly greeted and seated.

"If you can snag a booth at Union Bar and Grill, you'll enjoy a private conversation with your dinner mates and NOT have to listen to diners at the next table. This...and the food is also very good. I enjoyed the kale salad topped with poached egg, as well as the prosciutto wrapped pork tenderloin. My vodka gimlet was also the perfect opener on a warm summer evening."

"We missed the nice fixed-price brunch menu; however, the regular brunch menu is just as good! Portions are a bit smaller than most brunch places in the city, but still adequate. We got the huevos rancheros, which was delicious but nothing out of this world, so I'd give it a 7.5/10. We followed that with the brioche french toast with fig and bacon jam, which was definitely a 9.5/10 if you're a fan of french toast. The fig and bacon jam was delicious. The price for the food was very fair, but we unknowingly got whooped on the $4 tea and coffee.
Will go back again!"

"I have been here five or six times. I was disappointed last Saturday when there was a special that was priced at $38 which is completely disproportionate to the balance of the menu. The server did not tell us the price when he described it. I think this is a bad policy. If a dish is priced way more than the rest of the menu it should be clearly stated at the beginning."

"Service fabulous as usual. They serve a cornbread when you order drinks. While usually moist and warm ours was dry and cold. We sent it back and immediately got a fresh one - but the first should never have been served. The appetizers - mixed beet salad and the salmon mousse were fair - the beets lacked much goat cheese, and those who had the mousse were not blown away. The entrees were the strength - two great servings of tuna, and very good hanger steak, and a very good lamb dish. overall a good experience with room for improvement in a few areas."

"Dinner and service were great. The only disappointment was that we waited about 30 minutes between appetizers and dinner...which typically wouldn't have been so bad but we had told the waitress that we had a 8:00 show to catch (sat down at 6:00)...she told us that she had asked the kitchen twice to get our order going but she was not successful in the end...wasn't her fault and in fact she was great...we didn;t have enough time to even look at the dessert menu. But would still return because the food was very good."

"My wife had gotten a gift certificate through a silent auction, so we went to celebrate my birthday with our two 13 year olds. We went early on a Sunday evening. It has kind of a classic 40s decor with leather booths and a dozen or so regular tables. The waiter was great. Friendly without being over bearing. Treated the kids well and answered our many questions. The food was outstanding. Everyone liked their meal including the kids who can be picky. There was a very nice presentation of the meals and everything was delicious. The waiter overheard us talking to my son who wanted a burger. He told us there was only one left, but he would have them hold it for us. We were slow in ordering, but he was very patient with us."

"Three of us had dinner after a play at Speakeasy and it was an easy walk from Tremont Street. We had a great table in a corner booth and our waiter was very attentive and pleasant without being overbearing. Our meals were very good (we all had some sort of steak) and the sides, including the brussel sprouts were delicious. I would definitely go back."

"We went to Union Bar and Grill for a friends birthday. They were very accommodating for a large group (8) and the service was excellent, when the waiter found out it was my friends birthday, he brought out a free champagne/sorbet treat for her. A friend and I split an appetizer and a dinner meal. The appetizer was smaller then we expected and the meal was on the small side, however, with the corn bread they put on your table, it was enough food."

"We had a great time. This was our nephew's Bon Voyage dinner with us. He is going into the Navy for a five year commitment and so we thought, why not take him out for dinner to just spend time and chat. It was a 6PM reservation, so not full as of yet. The atmosphere was welcoming and so wasn't the staff. The staff took care of all our needs...quite attentive, yet not in an overwhelming way. The waiter was knowledgeable and helpful with the menu and all our questions. The food was fantastic. If you like oysters, the bloody mary sorbet that came with them was scrumptious....I just wanted to eat more oysters. The pork loin was perfection and for steak, the waiter was spot on...the hanger steak. Eat the Smores for dessert."

"Bartender very helpful in explaining and letting me tastes tap beers. Table service very good (a little slow on getting the check) but otherwise great. Food was surprisingly good! We split a calamari appetizer, and the waiter recommended the pork roast and the scallop/short rib combo. Both we very good - only comment on the scallops was there were 5-6 scallops and only one small short rib - expected more of a mix. But the presentations and tastes were very good. We'll go back."

"Went with a friend for a visit. They have a special menu from 5:30-6:30, three courses and a glass of wine for $30, which I would go back and try. We couldn't decide what we wanted so we ordered an array of appetizers. They had a special with mozzarella that was terrific. The roasted corn risotto was perfect. Our favorite was the mussels. The broth was fantastic. Only downfall was that there were only two crostinis to use to soak it up. Our server was great but the bussers kept trying to take our broth away while we were trying to ask for more bread so we could continue enjoying our meal. This happened a few more times with our dishes- since we had apps and were picking at everything, they must have thought we were finished."

Even with a full house we could still have conversation. We took the south end chocolate tour and ended our day here. Perfect day in Boston."

"Union had been recommended by a good friend of mine, so I was excited to finally try it out. I loved the ambiance-dim lighting (but not too dim to read the menu), dark leather, a lively bar and a relaxed dining room. The servers were very friendly but not overbearing, and they quickly brought over some warm corn bread with butter. They have a strong base menu and lots of specials as well as a fixed price option, which you don't often see outside of restaurant week. They have a full bar with a fairly extensive wine list (although I would have liked to see more by-the-glass options) and about a dozen creative cocktails. Overall, my entire party was more than satisfied, and we left extremely full and very happy."

"Very nice South End spot, close to downtown and right on Washington Sreet. Darker atmosphere with the black chairs but not too dark. Found it through Open Table and was not disappointed, The cod chowder was delicious, the fried clams on top a nice touch. The mussels may have been the most tender I have had in years. Scallop and short rib dinner was just right, waiter was spot on with his recommendations. My colleague had the hanger steak and not a bite was leftover. And the cornbread was a treat. I will be back, I think a lot."
