"My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary on a Friday night at this romantic place. The service was excellent and so was the food. We will definitely return."

"My husband and I went on a Saturday night and we were really disappointed. The menu online was very different from the one at the restaurant. The one online was better. The service was okay, but the food was a bit underwhelming. The risotto dish had way too much parmesan cheese melted on top of it. It was not appetizing. The salad selections was weak. My skillet chicken was good. The brioche bread pudding was dry, dry, dry. The manager didn't charge us for that. The restaurant is very small and on a Saturday night at 8 there were only 4 tables filled and 2 people at the bar. The atmosphere was, well, there wasn't any. We are foodies and likely won't return."

"The restaurant pretends to be a kind of "haute cuisine" restaurant - small menu card, starting with an amuse-bouche. And although the food was good, it was not great or special. We expected more for the price we had to pay!"

"My husband and I had dinner here a couple years ago when they served a tasting menu. We went last night and were disappointed that they changed the menu to just normal plate style. We ordered a couple apps and entrees and I really didn't like the apps and my entree was just ok. The waiter was great except sometimes he was pretty slow."

"What a great little restaurant. I'm sorry I didn't know about it;. Went there with a party of five and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. Everyone loved their food and it came out hot and tasty. No complaints here."

"There was a nice variety of food, from the more exotic and creative as well as a few"safer"options. And for a smaller restaurant the space seemed cozy, not cramped. I would like to mention a couple minor complaints. I love bread and butter and while it wasn't horrible to have unsalted butter served with our bread, to them also have seemingly salt-less sour dough as the bread portion was not very appetizing. And also when paying a decent some for steak it's some what frustrating to not be asked how you would like it cooked and just have to eat it mostly rare. The steak still had a nice, if somewhat bloody flavor."

"Went for brunch as the online brunch menu looked interesting. I ordered the turkey hash, thinking it would be turkey from a freshly roasted turkey or at least a breast, right? Well what I got was ground turkey, like hamburger meat. I didn't think I'd have to ask, "Is the turkey fresh roasted or ground meat.". Guess I'll have to do that in the future. I might go back as most of the food coming out of the kitchen looked good, but avoid the hash unless you enjoy the hamburger helper variety."

"The food here was pretty average, nothing outstanding but still edible. The service, however, was horrible. Our waitress told us to wait for her to finish her conversation with the next table over when we asked for our bill. From what I heard, they were discussing tv shows."

"Sugar Toad is an outstanding restaurant that features amazing food and spirits. This is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or just enjoy a well prepared meal. The service is impeccable and the well-appointed atmosphere is relaxing, yet elegant. We try to plan an overnight at the Arista every few months and always have dinner at the Sugar Toad. An overnight get-a- way is our reward for working hard and raising a family! The fact that we choose to spend our time at the Sugar Toad speaks volumes."

"A hidden gem with a wide variety of fare containing ingredients from local sellers. An entree selection for everyone, with the scallops and Ono a huge hit. Mussels with garlic and chorizo are a must. Large selection of wines and beers, as well as tasty cocktails. From Host to wait staff, service was stellar. We will return and recommend."

"Great food although the portions were small for the price. Very friendly and helpful server. She was very accommodating when it came to our special dietary needs. The desert list was the only disappointment the entire evening. Can't wait to go back and try the new menu."

"Service was somewhat slow. Food was not hot. Wine pours were lean. Seating next to window was cold! Prices were a little steep. Scallops were tasty. Steak cooked properly and seasoned properly. Dark chocolate ice cream was a highlight."

"Our evening did not start out the best. We were seated by the hostess and after about 20 minutes had to ask for the manager because our server had yet to come by our table. The manager and the server were both apologetic and the manager did waive their corkage fee. After that, things went well. For appetizers, we had oysters and tuna tartar. Both very good. For entrees, we enjoyed the short ribs and the diver scallops. Both were very tasty. We did not have room for dessert. We would give the restaurant another try."

"The food was quite good; however, we think that $33 for an entree that had 4 scallops on a small bed of lentils was a bit pricey.
We arrived just lightly prior to our 5:45 pm reservation. The restaurant was totally empty but the bar full.We checked in and expected to be seated. The hostess said we had to wait as she likes to walk each group in one at a time! Two other couples arrived and were told the same thing, which led us to believe that the purpose was to get folks to drink at the bar before dinner. Since one champagne cocktail at dinner was $14,(a bit high as we order them weekly when we go out) perhaps that was the purpose. We were finally seated after 6 PM. There was no need to wait as there were 9 tables empty after all were seat"

"I used to love Sugartoad, considered it destination dining. Now it's just OK. Food was good but not inspired. They were out of the trout but offered tilapia. Out of the blueberry sorbet even though we dined early. I missed the sugartoad amuse bouche. The server was pleasant but not great -- from a community college program I'm sure. All in all a disappointment."

"We've been here twice--once for brunch, once for dinner. Food fantastic both times. For dinner, we had their short ribs and their pork chops. Sounds ordinary but it wasn't. The flavors were unique, subtle but divine. Great salad which we shared and they delivered on separate plates, adequate for each of us, with a nice white balsamic dressing. EAch came with a nice starch and veggie, salads or soup were extra. Ambience is nice and the music selection, played softly in the background (Daws, Wilco among others) was nice! The one problem was that each time we went, we felt like we had a new waitress who didn't really know what she was doing or know the menu well. For a restaurant with such great food, why not train your staff better?"

"We live close to Sugar Toad and have always plan to visit a Group on offer brought our intent to fruition. We were surprised by its tiny and intimate size but it still worked with roominess and level of noise.
The menu had a good variety husband ordered fish and I had meat. We also tried the soup of the day which was artichoke. We waited a very long time inbetween our soup and main courses being served. We were addressed by our waitress and the busser with bread but it was too long.
Once the food arrived mine was cold and well done. It should have been recognized by an expeditor or server but it was not. Husband's scallops great my burger was tough and cold. Just need some refinement but would return."

"We were greeted and seated promptly although we did arrive earlier than our reserved time. Service was attentive. The fish special was very tasty. And the steak was prepared to order. The menu has enough choices to please most.
Dinner was well paced and very enjoyable. Extensive wine list was appreciated. Our only low point was the lemon curd dessert. It needed more fruit to balance out the extremely acidic lemon."

"1.5 years ago, we fell in love with SugarToad. It had a menu that had some of the most ingenious food we'd ever eaten on it. We had spectacular dinners there, with a warm/attentive/helpful staff, and couldn't wait to recommend it to others.
Over the last year, however, it's gone downhill. 3 trips in a row now, have gotten progressively lackluster. The entrees have gotten mediocre and difficult to eat. The waitstaff have turned scatterbrained, underprepared, and unapproachable. We keep hoping that things will have turned around, but we just get disappointed.
I'm begging the management to fix whatever extinguished the spark that used to make SugarToad a magical place to eat, because you're going to lose loyal customers."

"Awful experience here Sun 2/24. I have no idea on the actual food b/c we left after an hour of waiting. This restaurant has about 20 tables and with manager, two servers, hostess, and two bus staff. However we were ignored for 45 mins after we ordered, then the server finally came back to the table but rather than admitting the order got lost and they should have noticed that sooner, wanted to 'confirm' our order, insisting that our food was ready?? After another 5 mins the manager came out and said something about kitchen being so busy - when only 35 people were in the place? It would have gone a long ways if they'd just admitted they screwed up, our food would be out immediately, and it would be free. Only the last was offered."

"The food was just ok. ?We had salmon that had little flavor. The ingredients with it were bland. Asian pear came to the table after the fish was served and the waitress said the chef forgot to add it to the dish. My pork chop was a little overdone. The place was nothing special. The seating was such that I looked at the wall and 3 feet in front of me. I was expecting some thing snazzier. We were expecting more for the price which was expensive. There are better places to go in Naperville."

"I've been going to SugarToad since it open a few years back. The atmosphere and menu have changed quite a bit since then and it's not as upscale as it was when it opened the doors. Lately, the service has been down right indifferent and does not measure up to the cost of the meal."

"Everything was prepared with skill and creativity. We elected the prix fixe menu option and the appetizers, entrees and deserts were delicious. As with most restaurants today, it was difficult to gauge the value of the wine list offerings since most appeared to be from obscure wineries. That being said, the lower tier $40 Chilean Cabernet we selected was excellent. Sugar Toad is a great choice for a special occasion or simply a fine dining night out. We'll certainly return."
