"I really liked this place, it was my first time dining here. The guacamole was really good, white sangria was good as well (although as always they fill the pitcher and the glasses with ice and you can barely taste the alcohol).
The shrimp dish was excellent, my only complaint was the wait: although we had a reservation we waited 30 min to be seated."

"First they are honest! Forgot my credit card. Had it next day. Food and drinks great. More sophisticated Mexican food. Live in neighborhood. Everyone goes. Great to bring 20-40 out-of-towners to get off the tourist track and enjoy an Upper East Side good ethnic spot."

"We really enjoyed the food and drinks here. The issue is that the restaurant is incredibly loud. They expanded the restaurant to add way more bar space and despite moving to likely the most quiet part if the restaurant it was intensely loud which dampened the entire experience. We were initially seated close to the front of the restaurant and we could barely hear each other across from the table. Love the food and drinks the service but management needs to figure out of they want to be a high end restaurant or a tequila bar with good food and pick one or the other because both is not working."

"Happy to see the improvement in the menu selections since Maya renovated. We are glad we gave it a second chance because we were very disappointed when the change took place. We spent many New Year's eves and Cinco de Mayo's as well as just going when we felt like it and were not happy with the changes. Wish they could do something with the noise level!"

"Maya is a cut above the usual tacos and margarita mix which seems to be the usual New York Mexican restaurant mix. They have an inspired tequila menu, and their dinner menu is varied and original, especially for Manhattan. Their inspired guacamole is a good way to start the meal. And while their taco selection is excellent, consider opting for one of the duck or pork entrees if you find yourself at Maya. Definitely worth the trip!"

"I ate there several weeks ago with a colleague for the first time in years. Food was great. I couldn't wait to bring my husband. We made plans with another couple on my recommendation...and I had to apologize to everyone after the dinner. We arrived on time and were promptly seated so that was great; but it was downhill from there.The waiter did come promptly for our drink order but after that it was difficult to find him. I had to ask other servers for water/ice and eventually the bill as he never came back or even glanced our way after serving the coffee. The guacamole was good but the tacos were not. My husband had to send back his steak as it was inedible. If you go, go during the week. They can't handle the Saturday night crowd."

"This was a last minute decision with a friend of mine who came to NYC from Connecticut for his daughter receiving a treatment in the Sloan Kettering Hospital. Since we were looking for a place to be seated quickly I opened the application and looked for the places that could be visited and also have some characters. So, this place was perfect for our needs at that moment of time. We ordered a guacamole plate. It was nice a bit spicy but in terms of the amount it was not filling at all for the amount of money that they were charging. I have ordered a steak and my friend ordered Mahi Mahi. Both dishes looked and tasted very nice but yet again not so filling. However, their margaritas and martinis were really nice."

"From start to finish-fantastic. We were 15 minutes late to our reservation, and we were easily accomidated. Great booth in the corner of the restaurant (asked, it's table "32"), and we were welcomed with pleasent service. The waiter recommended the Yucatan Margarita, which was perfect (I love spice), and a Mercado Margarita (which had hibiscus foam).
Started with the tuna guacamole which was Phe-NOM-IN-al.
Had the chicken enchiladas (a bit pricy at $20) and filet mignon (wish the cheese enchilada was more cheesy)
Finished with the peanut butter bar (marshmallow was stiff), but loved the warm churros.

"Recently redecorated with a contemporary decor that was fresh and chic. I miss some of the Aztec touches it once had though. Guacamole was very good. Drink prices were a little high, but maybe not for NYC."

"My wife and I went to Maya to celebrate a wedding anniversary.
The noise level when we got there was overwhelming. The hostess has been kind enough to find us a table that was a little protected from the bar and the high-pitched all-girl tables. The food was outstanding and the service impeccable.

"Unusually good food, expensive for Mexican food but worth the experience. Attentive service. They gave us as quiet a table as they could, and from 6:00 to 7:00 it was fine. Around 7:00 the restaurant began to fill up and the noise level became so high it was difficult to have a conversation with the person next to me. If you're sensitive to noise or want to have a quiet conversation, go early."

"The food was very good except that it was not hot enough and we had to return it so it could be heated more. We had the crab & shrimp. They did bring out a whole new plate which was excellent customer service. The margarita's were heaven - we had the strawberry & pineapple flavors. It was crowded but a nice crowd for a Sat night. If your looking for a night spot to go past midnight - forget it - this place will kick you out the door by 12:20 AM. I would recommend the place & I will be back myself since I am around the corner. Moderate pricing. Woman taking reservations via phone was extremely rude - kept saying it was booked - yet lots of empty tables when I was there."

"Went here with a group of 7, had to wait a while despite having reservations. Food was GREAT, started with the chile rellieno soooo good, amazing Mahi Mahi and my date had one of the pork dishes that was really good. Margaritas were great, service was a bit slow took a while to get our drinks. I would recommend maya bc the food was so good, hard to find Mexican this good!! Service could use a little work"

"The bottomless Margarita brunch was fun, good food, good drinks - just know that you need to bring flexibility. You order a variety of small plates from the menu, and drinks, and then things start arriving. Just not necessarily the things you ordered - we joked with the tables around us as we all kept getting a wonderful selection of many things, which we would flag a waiter down to describe to us. The food is all very good, as are the drinks. Enjoy what you get!"

"Went here for Valetine's day dinner. Service was great! We knew we were going to be a little late for our reservation so we called and they had no problem with that. The food was delicious and the portions were decently sized. I don't know the area well so I can't compare the restaurant to other options in the vicinity, but I felt like the experience at Maya was well worth the money!"
