The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
Maryland is known for its crab cakes, and ours makes waves. Come for the seafood – over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish served throughout the year – and stay to shop. Our convenient restaurant location on the second level the Montgomery Mall will get you hooked.
With parking right outside our entrance, steer a course for seafood directly to us. In season our patio is a popular lure for those who want the fresh seafood and fresh air combo.
Legal Sea Foods has received a boatload of accolades including “Best Place for Great Seafood” (Washingtonian Magazine, 2008), “Best Crab Cakes” (Washingtonian Magazine, 2008) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

"We were here with friends on Sunday evening, and had a lovely meal. When I requested grilled (instead of fried) calamari, our server suggested we try a seafood antipasto. This was a green salad with many added veggies, and with generous portions of grilled calamari and shrimp, mussels and clams. As with plain grilled calamari, this is an off-menu item, but it will now be my regular dinner. The other guests were equally satisfied with their selections."

"We started to go to this chain many years ago, in Chestnut Hill. This is not Boston yet it is our go to place whenever we feel like good, fresh, reasonably priced fish. Easily accessible from the parking in the mall, always good service. I have had the ahi tuna appetizer for lunch and with their delicious rolls it is more than enough for me. We all like the plain trout a lot and the french fries are terrific. Their standard baked schrod is also one of our favorites.

"Wonderful lunch. Ambience was perfect. We were at table for three hours enjoying a reunion lunch. Best things about restaurant -- menu had calories for every item on menu. Thank you! And our single bill was sorted by waiter by each diner. So we easily knew how much each person owed. I'd never seen that before and thought it innovative and thoughtful of diners. Great idea."

"We've eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and this is the first poor experience we've had. Misses on the food, slow service and an extremely heavy hand with salt by the kitchen will have us looking at the many alternatives in the area.
Specifically, the Rhode Island-style calamari was overcooked and rubbery. We did mention it to our waiter when he removed the partially-eaten plate from the table, but got no particular response. My wife's lobster roll was similarly overcooked - both dishes have always been perfect in the past and, in fairness, my grilled steelhead was perfectly cooked, although accompanied by stone-cold peas.
One might guess this is all due to a failure of management. Very disappointing."

"I had the lobster with a filet for $44.95. It was ok, not great. The lobster was over cooked and the shell very tough. The lobster tasted good, even though it was chewy. I ordered my filet medium rare. It was totally black on one side and had deep char marks on the other. I sent it back. Medium rare, should have no black at all. It took forever to get a replacement, which arrived luke warm, long after I finished the lobster. The put a big slab of butter on the top which didn't even melt. That was ok because I don't care for butter on top of my steak. The steak was pretty rare and had a heavy smoke flavor. I ate a couple bites and asked for a box. It will be ok in a sandwich."

"The food and service were great this visit! Our waiter was very accommodating and helpful. The restaurant is beginning to show its age, though. It's definitely time for a renovation...our booth had tears in the vinyl and the carpet is worn looking. Overall, a very pleasant experience."

"The combination shrimp, scallops and crab cake are always a favorite and prepared well. The ceasar salad was a bit soggy, but it reminds you to ask for dressing on the side. Coffee is always fresh and the wait staff attentive."

"The food is still pretty good, although our waiter did not seem to know his product (the food). He neglected to mention the day's specials or make any recommendations from the menu. It appears to me that the watiers at this location have no real knowledge of the food they're serving. Maybe if they were required to taste certain dishes they would be more than just order takers."
