"Even though we had made a reservations weeks in advance when we showed up (10 minutes early) we were told the only table they had was upstairs - the brunch is on the first floor. When I asked if there were any tables on the first floor they said there was one in the tavern. We took that table but the table for four was so tight that it actually impacted our enjoyment of the meal."

"I guess I should have known, that an early dinner on the Saturday before Mother's Day as not going to be great. The table we sat at was on an aisle that was constantly busy with guests, kids running and staff.
The food was good, but not as good as in the past. I guess they're skimping a little in an attempt to avoid raising the very high prices.
Maitre'd offered complimentary after dinner drinks and desert... got the drink, but was charged for the dessert. I think it it time to look for a new Steak House."

"We go to Rod's often and the food is always good. The interior is beautiful, dark woods amd brass railings, very traditional. However, in the main dining area it is such a large space, with an open mezz above, so even with so much dark wood it feels open and airy. Sunday brunch is excellent, offering a wide range of foods. My son and I are carnevors so the carving stations and smoked salmon platters are our spot. My wife is an ova-vegatarian and she is always able to find an array of options beyond simply an omlette. Only draw back is that the service can be noticeably slow at times. This was particularly surprising at a recent buffet brunch, with service being only drinks and the check. Still Rod's is worth the visit."

"We were a group of 6. I was entertaining 2 clients and their wives. My wife was also in attendance. Rod's was a hit with everyone! The service was some of the best I ever had. The attention to detail by our wait staff was exceptional. For example the wine service was excellent. There was never an empty glass. The wait staff was always there for us without being intrusive. Four of us had steaks which were tasty and prepared the way we requested with the other 2 in our party having the seafood which they raved about. A great experience , especially when you know your clients were very pleased."

"I had requested a rail car because aside from the delicious food, Rod's rail car is my favorite feature of the restaurant. The main dining room is beautifully appointed, however the train car brings you back in time. If you are looking for a romantic dining spot to impress that special someone or just want a quiet dining experience, I strongly recommend it! The service was outstanding and attentive as always."

"We had not been to Rods in many years. Things looked the same, pretty but dated, could use some updating. The menu was typical of a steak house and the prices were quite high. the steaks did not come with sides though other things on the menu did. We had french onion soup, 9oz fillets and mashed potatoes. Soup was good, but nothing special. Steaks were done very well, charred on the outside and perfectly pink inside, beanies sauce was a bit bland. Potatoes were tasty, a little salty and though they were described as crispy shallot mashed, there were so few shallots, they should not include them in their description. May go back again but more likely to try the more casual Red Dog tavern that is in the same building."

"We went for a special Occasion. It was my inlaws 57th wedding anniverary. It was a very nice touch after dinner for the waiter to bring them a small cake, that they were able to bring home with them. We were there on a Monday @4:00 so it quiet, and the fixed menue for $25.00 was great. The wine list was good. We picked one for $47.50, that was the only down side, we liked the wine, so we looked it up and can purchase it for $14.99 on sale for $8.99. I dont understand why restruants have to charge so much. I understand you want to make money. But a %100 or more mark up."

"I remember when I was growing up coming to Rod's with my parents and loving the place. Well, 40++ years later, and I still love it. My wife and I come to Rod's when we want to be "adults". It's that special. So, if you haven't been there yet, you need to get there sooner than later!!"

"We've lived in Morris County off and on for years, having visited Rod's a number of times many years ago. Recently we were in the mood for steak and saw the name when we were looking for a place to go. Shame on us for not doing it sooner. Rod's has exceptional food with a great wine list and service. The Crab & Shrimp Martini is a great starter - be warned, portions are huge and if you're not very hungry will never finish and have room for the entrée. Best French onion soup around and you cannot go wrong with any pick of the steak or seafood. We've gone several times now in the past few months and Rod's is on our regular rotation for date night."

"The quality of service at Rods has decreased over the last few years. This visit, the waiter who brought water spoke no English and kept giving us plain water when we'd asked several times for sparkling. Several of the wait staff barely speak/understand English. One steak ordered rare was rare on inside, but burnt on outside. Several items we asked to be wrapped to take home didn't make it into the bag. During a previous recent visit, the waiter spilled water all over the table and instead of re-seating us (there were several empty tables near), he just put a towel over the spill, so our table was wet the entire meal. For the prices, I expect better and this was not a one-time occurrence, so I will not be returning to Rods anytime soon."

"Wide variety of food. Service with a smile. Great food and choices. We got our table right away. Best to go before 1130a for sunday brunch so u can beat the crowd. They offer valet parking but you can self park too and it is just a short walk to the lot."
