Natsumi Breaks New Ground with Innovative Modern Japanese Cuisine. Barbara Matsumura founder of Haru Restaurants, has teamed up again with Chef Haru Konagaya to create this strikingly original destination. Two separate experiences in two adjacent sites, an elegant restaurant and a trendy Tokyo-chic bar/lounge. Natsumi specializes in modern Japanese cuisine with a touch of Italian ingredients; offering an array of creative dishes such as, sashimi arugula salad, new style yellowtail carpaccio, and lobster green tea ravioli. The innovative menu relies on unique preparations with dynamic flavors. The wine list is international, with white, red, sparkling wines, and champagne by the glass and bottle. The restaurant is divided into distinct dining areas, a cozy space with intimate booths, a sushi bar where diners can watch the chefs compose, and in the front, the windows open to the street. The whole room is infused with a warm golden glow and earth tones.
"I went there for sushi and tried a number of selections but none of them tasted fresh - not bad or off mind you -just kind of stiff, bland and uninteresting. I wouldn't go there again. The service was OK after you got past the Matre 'd (?) who, even though it wasn't busy, practically leaped over tables to get us seated as though there were a line of people waiting to be seated. We had to sprint to keep up with him. The waitstaff though was very pleasant."

"Not fancy, but great food! We loved the experience. Got to try: rocky shrimp, toffu ravioli and the rolls! Price is not crazy like you would expect in a NY sushi."

"I'm a huge fan of Japanese food and this place exceeded my expectations. Came here for a company dinner and we all loved it. Food was amazing. Rock Shrimp Tempura is our new addiction. We love this place and will be back."

"Nice experience...used Open Table to find this restaurant. Totally as advertised. Food was delicious, vegetables prepped perfectly as was the cooked fish and shrimp. I was in NY on biz and will definitely return to this restaurant."

"Wow! I've walked by Natsumi more times than I can remember and my girlfriend and I finally decided to try it yesterday before seeing a show. By golly, I was blown away. From the moment I walked in we felt welcomed and even got a special quiet table alone in the corner! The host was charming, the waitress was very knowledgeable and even the bus boys were always on their game! The food came and looked awesome and it tasted even better! I can honestly say we'll be coming back here for time to come. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening dinner!"

"We tried the Chet's selections for two for sushi and a wonderful soup featuring edamame. Fabulous! Complex layers of flavor in the soup, and the fish was sublime. And, they had no trouble making kids chopsticks and a California roll for our seven year old."

"Delicious sushi and inventive menu! Perfect for pre-theater dinner. The staff was very accommodating and attentive with our food allergies. We will definitely go back. The bar scene looks very cool and so does the drink menu."

"The food was amazing but this House of Japanese cuisine was made most brilliant by their manager/host . A table ran late causing a slight delay in our reservation, but our host made us aware, made it easy for us to enjoy a drink at the bar while waiting and provided a appetizer on him. The rest of the experience exemplified professionalism and service as well. Our waitress was quick, attentive and had a delightful smile that made our dining experience prefect. We finished our meals with the tempura cheese cake and it was beyond marvelous."

"Food is consistently excellent. The sashimi and sushi rolls are some of the freshest that the city has to offer. The wine and sake selection are superb. Service is attentive but not intrusive. Hosts make you feel appreciated and welcome all the time. Love this place!"

"Loved the food & choices. We froze in dining area because of their entry doors not closing fast enough. Every time they opened it is a blast of cold air straight back. The lounge seems unaffected but fills first. Seems like there is another dining area off to the side. Service started fine but after we received our main course we never saw our server again and the one we flagged down for dessert & check wasn't too happy. Next stop was the theater which worked out great."

"The restaurant and lounge areas are split in half by the lobby of the Amsterdam hotel... Both areas are small, cozy but small. Although it has a nice atmosphere, I still felt like I was in a 'hotel' restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their sushi. I had the tobanyaki dish and although it was tasty, I found it very heavy, almost too strong a flavor. My background is japanese so unfortunately I guess I'm a little more critical..."

"One of the BEST meals we have had in NYC!!! I ordered the price- fix dinner. Sea Bass came with sushi, salad, dessert, & saki!!! My husband & brother in law shared one of those sushi beautiful platters. Everything was fresh & yummy. Will go back next time in the city. Reasonably priced. And on top of it, we were presented with a $20.00 gift card to use upon our return. You must try this gem!!!!!!"

"Sushi was exceptionally fresh. Service was at times a bit slow and waiter kept rubbing up against my chair...seating design should be reconsidered. Great touch of handing out chocolates at the end of dinner service."

"I was a little nervous w/ some reviews before I made the reservation, but so glad I went. I took my friend and my daughter for dinner before the show. Great find! Sake came in a very pretty glass carafe w/ open side w ice in it to keep the sake cold. VERY cool! The food was awesome. The variety of sushi rolls, I wouldn't call them traditional, but very creative and fresh. Very tasty. I had "Daily Selection of Seasonal Best" and was better than I expected. Presented pretty, tasted awesome & nice variety. If you are looking for a traditional sushi restaurant it's not for you, but if you are in a mood for something new and fusion, it's a great place to go. Nice staff too! I'd definately go back there, next time with my hubby."

"Great sushi/sashimi and adequate service. It's really cramped and not overly creative. However, it's fresh, beautifully presented and delicious. If you want a work of art; maybe not for you. If you want fresh seafood and convenience when in the theatre district...you won't beat it."

"I really ought to give one more star but the service was too poor. So glad my friend could cheer me up. I got there 10 minutes before my reservation. there were empty tables but they chose to leave me waiting because my guest had not arrived. for the first 5 minutes, the man by the front desk just attended to the people who got there after me like i was invincible.
I eventually got seated. the seafood cerviche was good. the rice was hard but the green tea noodles were yummy. the best part was probably the dessert. yummy sorbets and amazing cheesecake tempura. I liked the food, but i was still upset from the service.
Oh btw, you have to tip the waiter a minimum of 15% of your total. regardless of the size of your party."

"Been there a couple times, always ate at comfortable couches in the bar area where you can order from full menu. Good sushi, good sake menu, good prices were only marred this time around by staff that seemed overburdened by 15 people in bar, and that did not seem to have good grasp of menu when presented with a minor change and some questions. Also had to be reminded about dessert order after 15 min no show."
