Much like the ambiance within the restaurant, Amber India’s cuisine is a mix of modern style with traditional roots. The delectable cuisine, the well paired wines, and the exotic cocktails are sure to indulge anyone’s senses. The split-level three-story restaurant can easily accommodate 140 people, with a private dining room in the back for up to 25 people. "Amber India is quite close to the Moscone Center where I was attending a conference. It's a brief walk just north of the north building. I dined with a friend who is very familiar with Indian food who loved the excellent flavors as I did though described the dishes as non-traditional. I found the black lentil dahl very tasty as was the eggplant main dish. We shared the cauliflower appetizer which had such a wonderful sauce that we kept the dish until we had the garlic naan to get the last of it. I had been there about four years ago and found it just as good. I'd recommend it highly and likely will return on future trips to San Francisco."

"We had a reservation for 10:00pm Saturday and got seated by 10:15. The waitstaff was busy cleaning and were not welcoming at all. After repeated requests, didnot get the drinks menu. No one told us that cut off for ordering food was 10:15pm and as soon as we ordered first time, we were not allowed to order again. Instead of apologizing for the blunders, they started arguing that they have been working since morning and hence will not entertain us. They did get us a bowl of dal after their cutoff - but with a caveat " I cannot promise the quality of the dal as this is after our cutoff".
Have been to this restaurant atleast 15times and have loved it . When I complained, they said "Come here at 8:00pm next time for better service""

"I give a lot of reviews and honestly I have never given 5 stars in all categories. But Amber deserves it. From the moment you walk in the door you know your going to have an experience. Everyone that works int that restaurant is top notch. Polite, friendly, attentive, and professional. The food is the best I've ever had. My husband and I have only been eating Indian food for about 2 years now, and by far Amber has the best Indian food we've ever had. We live 3 hours away and find ourselves looking for reasons to go to San Francisco just so we can visit Amber. Wonderful experience!"

"This once fine restaurant is now unbearably noisy. The food has declined somewhat in quality, although some dishes (such as the Amber Dal) are still quite good; but the close-packed tables and reverberant walls spoil what would otherwise be a decent meal."

"Been here for lunch before and now dinner. Indian food with European-fancy service. The food is good, sometimes delicious, but not spectacular. I wanted to treat my team at work, and they felt treated... but not relaxed. This is not the "share everything," umami yum-goop comfort food of typical Indian restaurant fare. No one would eat everything with their hands, and there will be no licking of fingers. Instead, the table feels dressed up, though not quite stuffy. Cloth napkins and multiple forks. Drink list is decent.
I had the lamb stew and was glad about it. The rack of lamb was notably well seasoned and tender... and not terribly Indian. I might go back just for that dish."

"We had lunch here while attending a conference at the Moscone Center. It is an easy walk through the beautiful gardens. The lunch was all buffet. There were a variety of options although none of them were very spicy (we love Vindaloo). They brought bread (naan) to the table which was good."

"On our second visit as on our first the food was terrific. The menu includes mostly familiar Indian favorites but each is done with some extra touch or flair. In our group of six everyone was very happy with the appetizers, meals, and desserts. Special faves were the flash-fried crispy spinach (we ordered a second bowlful) and the mango brulee. The specialty drinks such as the Marquis de Mumbai were a big hit as well.
The service was disappointing, however. On our first visit it had been a bit slow but pleasant and accurate. On this second visit we had some orders that had to be repeated, and when we left after asking for our food to be boxed up the bag they gave us turned out to include only a few of the items we'd asked for."

"Had a lunch reservation here on a Friday and the place was packed! It tools over ten minutes just to let the host know we had a reservation. Our server was prompt in coming to the table to get our drink order. But then we waited for almost 10 minutes again in the buffet line, only to find most of the protein entrees wiped out. The food was good though, and I liked the decor other than the overcrowding. The cocktails were also great. I would just suggest coming at off time. Either 11.30 or 1.30 would probably work."

"My first time at this establishment. Noted as best Indian food in SF so I had high expectations. Expectation - disappointment = reality. On a business trip by myself, I could only get a reservation at 9:30pm. The place was still jam packed and very noisy. Waited 15 minutes to even see the server, Vanda. I ordered Lamb Korma, Rice, Garlic Naan and a glass is wine. The meal was served in lightning speed, about five minutes. Wine arrived half way thru the meal. Lamb delivered at room temp. It was tender, but uninspiring. Had Vanda ever come to check, I would have sent it back. After finishing, another 15 minutes to get the bill. Total $42.16. My charge slip $102.32!! A tip? Not for Vanda. For you? Find another restaurant."

"Good food. However, I've dined twice, was given the same booth both times, which faces other diners in adjoining seating and offers no real way of having a conversation without sharing all of it with the "neighbours". The booth seating is designed with a seat to table ratio that is (quite) uncomfortable for diners who are less than 6" tall. For two people out together, this adds up to considering another place."

"We love Amber SF. The food is delicious. Love the ambiance of the restaurant. Lunch buffet is excellent...delightful. I was in heaven. Service was a little off. I realize that the restaurant was extremely busy since there was a conference in town, however with as many servers and bussers checking in on tables - there was a bit of a disconnect. We had to ask two different people within a 15 minute span for refills because the first request never made it to the table. Not exactly great when you have nothing to drink and you have a mouth full of food....and desperately need fluid. Besides that hiccup, fabulous fabolous time had by all! We would definitely return."

"Amber India in San Francisco was a wonderful dining experience. The food was absolutely some of the best Indian cuisine that I've ever had. The restaurant was packed and quite busy, but the service was still fantastic, and the noise level was not bad at all. It still felt like a small, intimate dining experience. I asked for a recommendation between the Butter Chicken and 1 of the curry dishes; the server recommended the Butter Chicken - & it was fabulous! We also ordered the chili & thyme naan, which was spicy, hot, & exceptional. All-in-all, a great dining experience! I highly recommend Amber India!!"

"We had a good size party (11) and they were able to accomodate us nicely and at short notice. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. Since we ate family style, we had dishes rotating pretty much continuously, and made for a lively dining experience. Every dish was on the mark, the scallops were perfect, and the butter chicken was so delicious, I was tempted to lick the bowl clean. The dessert selection was lovely, and has my very favorite, Ras malai, and it was a classic rendition of the dessert. Yummy, yummy food, and great service."
