"The food, the wine list and the presentation all lived up to the Relais & Chateaux standard. The sommelier was knowledgeable and sincere. The wait staff were attentive. However, patrons who are familiar with Relais & Chateaux expect a fine dining experience as much as good food and wine. Rushing to take the food order before the aperitifs arrived was a mistake. Putting down the wine list randomly without asking who is the host (in advance or at the table) created an awkward moment. Asking a diner if he had Turbot before was insensitive, considering Patina does not generally attract inexperienced diners. Details count."

"Food was extraordinary. Service not so much. Waiters forgot napkins, forgot requests right after having a long conversation about it. Someone had to dodge a napkin being handed to the person next to her. Servers were all congregating and talking to each other when some guests were trying to flag them down. Bread server was slapping the bread really hard while offering choices. A little weird. Servers convinced not to get a course because it's too early for it (we ended up just not getting that course). Hop these all could be improved! Still a great place to eat aside from the odd service."

"My husband and I had a superb dining experience at Patina on Saturday night. His ahi tuna appetizer and my mosaic vegetable signature dish were outstanding. He said his scallops entree was very good. I had the poached salmon, which tasted fine but looked colorless. The flourless chocolate dessert we shared was indescribably delicious!!! Service was excellent and the decor was lovely. Highly recommended! Be sure to allot at least 2 hours for dinner before seeing a show at the Ahmanson, Disney Hall, or Mark Taper e.g. so you don't feel rushed."

"I have always loved Patina. I moved away from LA in 2001 and heard it had closed down. I was just there for a business trip and was amazed to find it was open and right near Disney Hall. I made a reservation for dinner on Sunday night, and it was just as fantastic as I remembered it. The food is really fantastic with beautiful presentation and amazing flavors. Service was wonderful and attentive. I am so happy I was able to dine at Patina again after so many years away."

"The food is amazing, really special delicate flavors, presentation is beautiful yet realistic, Loup de Mer was fantastic. Dessert was delicious. Got very nice service, Husband's Birthday, got a cookie plate with a Happy Birthday on it, a mid-course compliments of the chef, and a tiny pretty box of chocolates at the end. Very, very nice!"

"If you are attending an event at the Music Center, this is a special dinner venue that flows perfectly for your evening out. The first thing they ask is which event you have tickets for and then they do their very best to get you out the door in time. We arrived a little late and were seated immediately and the maitre'd suggested the food choices that would fit into our timeline. The Turbot was a beautiful plate and was delightfully delicate. The complimentary amuse´bouche and small dessert were sufficient to fill out our menu. These are not lumberjack sized portions, but a very satisfying dining experience."

"It would appear that in the effort to be unique they have lost sight of the need to serve good food, and judging by the almost empty restaurant on a Saturday night, others are in agreement. The food was interesting and creative, but only one in our party of four rated their meal any better than "okay," not nearly good enough to justify the cost. Our waitress was helpful and generally professional, but with all the waitstaff standing around the almost empty restaurant it was surprising how often we had to flag someone over to take care of routine requests. Even salt and pepper had to be summoned. The brownie desert included a "brownie" the size of a thumbnail--literally. It was a joke."

"My wife's steak was quite good, but my mother and I shared the loup de mer, which was not special in any way. My wife made a better fish the following evening. My dad had the lamp loin and didn't much care for it. The appetizers were good, but not great. The best thin about the meal was the amuse bouche--a carrot ginger soup that was amazing and got us very excited for our meal. Unfortunately it was all downhill from there. The food wasn't awful, but for roughly $40 an entree, I expect a lot more.
Service was friendly and professional and the ambiance is nice."

"The service was over-the-top. Neither of us could complete a sentence without someone coming to the table to ask if everything was all right. It was the opposite of relaxed and discreet; it was incessant and over-formal.
The only outstanding dish I was served was the "amuse bouche", a lovely little tiny cup of delicious carrot soup. The John Dory was boring, though well-cooked, and the potato rectangle tasted like tater tots. The squash soup was fine, but not at all exceptional. The bread service was excellent, however."

"Best thing about this restaurant is its location. Service was horrible, food mediocre. Had received a call confirming the time of our reservation, the fact that we were attending the concert and that we were celebrating two birthdays (both of these were again confirmed upon arrival). It took so long to receive our entrees we felt terribly rushed, and ended up with no time to even finish our lattes. No mention or acknowledgment was made of the birthdays. As we were literally putting on our coats, a small plate of petite fours arrived...not sure if they were meant for a birthday treat or not, but we had no time to eat them. VERY disappointing."
