BayWolf
Since 1975, BayWolf has been Oakland's favorite neighborhood restaurant, consistently delivering vibrant, world-class food in a Victorian home made modern with its popular terrace and eclectic dining rooms on Piedmont Avenue. BayWolf has several options for those looking to celebrate or meet with large groups of friends or business associates. The dinner menu changes monthly, always featuring the abundant locally-grown seasonal produce of Northern California and utilizing the culinary traditions of the Mediterranean. Additionally, the menu always showcases duck, raised especially for us by Liberty Ranch in Sonoma County. BayWolf remains a home away from home for all lovers of food, art, wine, friends and most of all family, which is who we consider everyone dining with us to be.

"It has been 31 years since I have been to Bay Wolf. The interior has been improved. Other than that, Bay Wolf's quality food, excellent service, and attention to detail has not changed. It is still a great place to take someone for a special dinner. We went on Mother's Day and while I was not thrilled about a restricted price fixe dinner, I was delighted by the menu and enjoyed every bite of what I ate. I had the crab bisque, roast duck, and pannacotta with Meyer lemon and candied blueberries. The pannacotta was the crowning glory of my meal. The best I have ever eaten. Smooth, light, with vanilla bean in the proper amount. The lemon was perfect, not too sweet or too tart. I'm coming back!"

"Maybe Mother's Day wasn't the best day to try BayWolf for the first time. Prix fixe choices were limited, and yet dishes were still not prepared as they should have been, except the wonderful Meyer lemon panna cotta (the one dish that can and should be made ahead.). Most things tasted as though they were prepared well in advance. Grilled fruit in my salad was tired and limp. My duck breast was well-done (Who does that to a nice duck breast?), and the leg overcooked and stringy. Don't expect we'll be going back. One can get mediocre food anywhere."

"While the food and presentations are first rate, especially the salads, we have been unhappy over the course of several visits with the meager size of the main courses. They are often about the size of what you'd expect as a first course/appetizer--maybe very very slightly larger. Once we checked with the server because we were in disbelief we were being served the main course size of the dish."

"Food was great, except I made the mistake of ordering duck which came out rather bland and a bit overlooked. The rice cake that came with it was flavorless as well. All other dishes were great though, calamari, duck pâté, the fish. I prob wouldn't order a steak here.
Ambience and service were both great. I would def recomend , just avoid the duck and steak."

"BayWolf is special. They offer not only phenomenal food and service, but a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy your dinner exactly how you want. Their menu theme for the month is Paris in the spring. So fun and romantic! We loved the butter lettuce salad and carrot soup. Both had clean, light flavors, and perfect portions. The handmade tortellini were tender and flavorful. Scallops with lentils and red pepper coulis- the plate was beautiful and tasted like magic. The wine list is lovely. We drank a bottle of Oregon pinot. Not the cheapest, but a great value. We enjoyed all this over a 3 hour conversation without feeling rushed. The server understood that we were in no hurry. Her service reflected the mood of our evening."

"In Oakland on business, wanted a small neighborhood place for dinner, picked this one from reviews. What a great choice! The food was all delicious, from the chickpea soup to the gnocchi to the duck. A diverse menu, something to please vegetarians as well as meat lovers. It felt cozy and welcoming. Service was mixed. Attentive support staff (person who brought the wine, person who cleared plates) but the main wait staff seemed a little dazed and confused. No matter, it was a lovely dinner and we'll return next time we're in town."

"My wife and had dinner. The food was ho-hum. I had a stuffed chicken leg and my wife had the duck tangine. Both were ok. Probably not worth the money. Our service was fantastic, as good as I have ever been served, which is a good reason for me to go back."

"This place is always amazing. The service, the food, the wine selection, the ambiance are all spectacular. We have been there at least half a dozen times and each meal is superb. This is the BEST place to go for a fabulous meal. It isn't inexpensive, but it's an amazing value."

"We have no dearth of new, up-and-coming, and high profile dining experiences available to us here in the Bay Area, a universe of wonderful dining experiences right before us--and for 37 years BayWolf has been turning out delightful cuisine with the best of them, attentively served in a warm, relaxing environment, with dining both inside and out (on an inviting, sheltered patio). I can't say enough about the good meals we've had there, and if you've made it through the last 37 years without checking out this great Bay Area treasure, you are definitely overdue!"

"We waited an inordinate length of time for our meal. The same size group that sat down next to us, 15 minutes after we sat down, got their meal 20 minutes before us. One of us ordered fish. There was a discussion with the waiter about making sure that the fish was cooked through. He agreed that that was important. The fish came obvioulsy under cooked. We then had to wait another 10+ minutes for the fish to be cooked further ( microwaved ??). We were surprised that the waiter did not offer to at least comp us a cup of coffee. Nothing. We felt like the waiter was doing us a favor by serving us. The other two meals were very good, but the meal was stop start due to the need to have the fish be sent back."

"The dinner was excellent as always. I have been to BayWolf many times over the years and I took a friend who had never been because she has asked me to introduce her to some of my favorite restaurants. The quality of the food and the wonderful preparations are unsurpassed. I think many restaurants would charge much more for the food so the value of the meal is delightful as well. The service was attentive, pleasant and charming."

"Fabulous food- interesting and well executed. But very odd service - maybe something was happening that night. First, Water server very abrupt, no eye contact or acknowledgement. Our entree was a bit late - but we were fine - then a different wait staff rushes in and pushes our food in front of us.... Startling and intrusive!! But again, food was ever so good, and the enclosed outdoor seating was cozy."
