Since 1975, BayWolf has been Oakland's favorite neighborhood restaurant, consistently delivering vibrant, world-class food in a Victorian home made modern with its popular terrace and eclectic dining rooms on Piedmont Avenue. BayWolf has several options for those looking to celebrate or meet with large groups of friends or business associates. The dinner menu changes monthly, always featuring the abundant locally-grown seasonal produce of Northern California and utilizing the culinary traditions of the Mediterranean. Additionally, the menu always showcases duck, raised especially for us by Liberty Ranch in Sonoma County. BayWolf remains a home away from home for all lovers of food, art, wine, friends and most of all family, which is who we consider everyone dining with us to be.

"Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. My friend's swordfish was cooked to perfection - he cleaned out his plate! His wife's chicken wrapped in pancetta was a very generous serving and surprisingly moist throughout. My husband's lamb dish was also very tender and delectable. My mini duck polenta and oxtail ravioli were also amazing. The polenta and ravioli were both very flavorful. The service was just right - attentive, but not too overly cloying."

"As always, had a wonderful experience at Bay Wolf. Greeted warmly by owner Michael and seated at an outdoor table that he assured me would be the right temperature. It was perfect. As was the salad Nicoise. Desserts were to die for. Our server was terrific as well but just a little rushed as she was very busy."

"We appreciate the options this restaurant offers at this address. However, I must admit that we do no longer raving fans becasue the food quality has slipped. Not a bad product and we understand the menu adjustments in these hard times as all our favorite locations have done, but the attention to detail and over taste is just not what it use to be. This location appears to be slipping."

"The service was great. The food was outstanding. The only minus is that when it came to dessert we were not asked if we wanted coffee or anything else. So the dessert came...which was delicious...but we didn't want to order coffee at that point (I wanted a cappuccino) because I figured I would be done with my dessert by the time the coffee came. I would definitely go there again for a special occasion as it is a bit pricey. The Valentine set menu was $68 per person, excluding drinks and gratuity."

"As always Bay Wolf is a fine choice for a special dinner. Food was great, service outstanding and the atmosphere friendly and sophisticated. My guest was a little disappointed that the filet mignon was sold out (by 7:30PM) and found the replacement NY steak a little tough. We loved the duck flan and avocado/citrus/asparagus salad. All in all a great time."

"Given the exclusiveness and the high quality cuisine of this Oakland gem, several key factors played a part in making my anniversary dinner truly unforgettable. The reservations were easy to make on the Baywolf's website. When we arrived an hour early before our reservations, we were still seated promptly. The server had an extensive knowledge and an eloquent description on each dish. Each course was served in a timely fashion and was simply delicious. Thank you!"

"Our group of four had three different main dishes and all were delicious The traditional duck a l'orange was perfect and not overly sweet. "We went there for lunch on a chilly day, but were able to eat outside with their outdoor heating. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the wines and gave excellent selections. "The food was very good, but not exceptional. The restaurant space is very comfortable, like eating in someone's house. The service was efficient, but not very warm or welcoming. "Baywolf still delivers. I haven't been for ten years, although it has always been one of my most treasured restaurants. I this past Sat. night with my fiance, Brother, and sister inlaw and had a wonderful meal. We sat on the well warmed covered porch. and enjoyed a wonderful meal. The Baywolf excels in serving wonderfully excuted, perfectly seasoned, seasonal food that satisfies the soul. It may not be "cutting edge" cuisine or presented in any new way but it delivers what food should be: delicious, satisfying and done well. We all enjoyed every bite, every sip of the cocktails, and two bottles of wine and every moment of the warm, proffesional, informed service. I am glad the Baywolf hasn't changed, only gotten better with age."

"Great portions, delicious flavor combinations (the avocado, fennel and beet salad was amazing, and I don't even like beets very much!), servers were very attentive. The restaurant has a very cozy feel of being in someone's house (I think it is a converted house) and the outside heated deck is quite warm!"

"We took my mom for birthday dinner. She wanted an elegant but quiet dinner. It fit the bill perfectly! Waitress was very friendly, good service. One of he waiters heartily recommend the chicken tagine which he said is the menu a few months of the year. As he said, the sauce was delicious. It was definitely enough for two. Only complaint is a very limited wine list for a restaurant with such good food."

"I hadn't been to Bay Wolf in years but remembered it as a special occasion place with great food, great atmosphere, and great abundance all around. It is still the same beautiful place, but the food, though tasty, was sparse. This seems to be the sign of the times all around. Prices remain high while portions shrink.

I would still recommend the place for a very pleasant dining experience in a wonderful space. Just wish there was more abondanza!"

"We were celebrating 2 birthdays. We were seated "outdoors" in the heated front porch. 4 stars for ambiance as the outdoor seating felt a bit isolating (there were no other diners & no music the first 1/2 hr). 4 stars for service as our waitress was rather abrupt in manner in the beginning, although by the end became more friendly. Every entree was tasty--esp the chicken tagine dish--but we all enjoyed our entrees--duck breast w/crispy polenta, & the cassoulet. Duck liver flan was outstanding as were the double celery soup, smoked salmon salad and shaved fennel salad. Great desserts we all shared: meyer lemon pot du creme, lime panna cotta, persimmon ice cream sandwiches & flourless chocolate cake. A great dining experience for all. Thanks."

"Food was ok at best. They need to change the corkage policy--we purchased a bottle of wine and also brought a bottle of our own. Most restaurants waive corkage on a one for one basis if you purchase a bottle of their wine list, but alas, BayWolf does not. We won't be going back."

"The only negative to our anniversary dinner was our seating. They squeezed us in the corner by three other tables of two, plus our table was in front of the heating vent. Made for a very hot evening and not very romantic for an anniversary celebration. Seats were rather uncomfortable."

"Lovely all around. It was my birthday but none of the desserts appealed to me. Out waiter brought the warm chocolate cake with a candle (gratis) because he said that was the one I asked about and I should have it for my birthday. And it was delicious after all! He also suggested a great wine."

"The ingredients seemed excellent, but the flavors and components of some dishes seemed off. For example, the leek and potato soup tasted of something other than leeks and potatoes, the duck tostada was overwhelmed by radishes, and the otherwise excellent braised short ribs were violated by the amount of vinegar on the accompanying Swiss chard."

"I have been going to the Bay Wolf for some twenty+ years now, both for lunch and dinner. It is superb, and in the summer the outdoor patio is really fun, gets filled up first. In an industry where so many restaurants bite the dust after the initial hype dies down the longetivity of Bay Wolf speaks volumes. A bit pricy for more than special occasions, but well worth it."

"First experience with Baywolf, they pay very close attention to the details here. Appetizers were great- baby lettuce salad with exquisite shaved pears, gorgonzola, mustard vinigairette was fantastic, potato leek soup was the best i have ever head. As main cource the butternut squash gnocchi was amazing, however the new york strip steak, while posessing good flavor, was very tough in texture and overcooked.

The wine list had good selections but definitely not for the prices charged. I advise bringing your fave and paying the 18 dollar corkage."
