Rue Dumaine
Chef Anne Kearney and Tom Sand Jr., co-proprietors, welcome you to their home! We have created a unique atmosphere where you can celebrate the good things in life, and put your cares on hold for a few hours. The décor has been created with many French bistro elements. Rue Dumaine specializes in an Americanized version of classic French flavors. Come savor duck rillette crepes, or indulge in crispy Herb de Provence frog legs, or a robust serving of Cabernet braised short ribs. Chef Anne is passionate about local ingredients such as honey, organic eggs, and all-natural chicken from Ed Hill’s farm in Xenia. Only the best artisan cheeses, gelato, vegetables and breads are brought in; everything else is prepared in-house. Menus change seasonally to accommodate fresh produce and seasonal specialties from local suppliers. The wine room is stocked with “wines from around the world” chosen from boutique wineries that exhibit “attention to detail” in all aspects of their winemaking process.

"Food presentations are artistic and beautiful! Normally, my spouse likes me to take pictures. But I smell the wonderful aromas, I admire the presentation, and the next thing I know my mouth is happy and my plate is empty. Rue Dumaine satisfies all the senses and my taste buds hold the memory longest, because I forget to take pictures. I enjoy introducing my friends to what has become the delight of my month."

"Arguably one of Dayton's best restaurants we were not disappointed our lasted (but never our last) visit. Often full, open table gave us the confidence we could get a table for two (very cool). Picking up that we desired a relaxed well-paced dinner our server allowed us to finish our drinks at our pace (very cool). Arugula salad...simple...very tasty. We both had the Friday night duck paired with glasses of the Burgess - amazing. Chocolate gelato for two wrapped up the evening. What a great dining experience. Dayton is blessed to have Chef Anne and Tom in town. Their relentless attention to detail balanced with a desire for a friendly, comfortable experience make each visit looking forward to the next visit."

"We went here to try someplace new for my husband's birthday since it was highly rated. We both thought the food was excellent, but my husband was a little disappointed that they only had one choice of steak on the menu (& not a cut that he wanted), so if you're in the mood for something in particular I recommend you check out the menu on their website prior to going there. However, what we did select was fabulous. Another good "feature" is that they have all their gluten-free items marked. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. Two things that could have been better: 1) they 1st tried to seat us in the busiest walkway even though there were many open tables & 2) the tables were close together so not the most romantic."

"Once again, Anne and krewe come through with a memorable dinner. The three course Thursday prix fixe is a steal at $30.00 (price may vary). This weeks included sweetbreads atop potato appetizer, grilled quail main course and a Meyer lemon crepe stuffed with lemon curd. Beware though and make a reservation for no later than 7:00pm as the prix fixe sells out early. Dead reliable and possibly the best in Ohio."

"This was my/our first trip to Rue Dumaine. Often when you think of French cuisine and restaurants you think of a little more cozy/romantic setting. Not the case here. But, this would be a great place to go with another couple or two. The food was fantastic and especially appreciate they locally source as much of their menu as possible. They have a great selection without it being 12 pages long. Had a couple of appetizers, entree's, couple of glasses of wine, and split a desert all for about $100 or so. Great price. The one down side, if you will, is their location. Terrible; plain and simple. Don't put a nice French restaurant in a strip mall next to a burrito, burger, and ice cream joint. It just doesn't work."

"Could not have been more satisfied. Food, service, and ambiance was excellent. When we asked for wine advise, it was the charming co-owner (and chef's husband), who appeared at table-side and served as our sommelier. It was our anniversary, so we shot the works- cocktails, appetizer, entrees, wine, and dessert. That is to say, that over the course of our leisurely 2 1/2 hour dining experience, we saw a good sampling of that evening's offerings, and can say with confidence that this is top-shelf french cuisine. And the chef uses seasonal and often locally produced ingredients. Definitely pricey, but absolutely worth it. For a more moderately priced experience, we intend to return on prix fixe menu night. Dayton is lucky to have Rue Dumaine."

"We ordered a nice bottle of wine and then started with the L'assiette du charcuterie which was just "okay." There was toast, one meat product, mustard, a relish & tiny pickles, not an assortment like most charcuterie plates. I ordered the house salad which would have had absolutely no flavor except for the blueberries they put on it this particular night. My husband ordered the soup of the day which was Barley, leek, rutabaga & ham and it was absolutely lovely. For the main course Hubby had the special;Bacon wrapped Quail and it was gorgeous. I had Pork Tenderloin and there was so much salt on the meat & the spinach that it gagged me. The sweet potato Yukon gratin was very nice. Too "iffy" for a 40min drive. We expected more."

"We took our 2yo with us for our 6th anniversary dinner. We had to bring our own booster seat, but they treated her like a princess and printed special menus just for our special occasion. The chef came out at the end of our entrees and talked with our daughter and thanked us for coming. She was very nice and her food was great. It was a little on the expensive side for us, $150 before tip. But that was with 2 drinks each 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 deserts. We were treating ourselves right on our special night. Rue Dumaine was just the place to do it."

"My husband and I have made it our New Year's Resolution to try new restaurants and Rue Dumaine was high on our list to try. We had an awesome experience! I highly recommend the Thursday night Prix Fix, three courses for one fixed price. The duck crepes were amazing! Chef Anne Kearney came through and stopped to chat. She is absolutely delightful, and extremely talented! They locally source as much as possible for their menu. We will be going back again soon, to experience their Wednesday night New Orleans specials. The menu is creative and full of imagination, the food was excellent, the servers and front of house were very attentive, and we loved our experience! This will not just be a one-time try....we are now true Rue Dumaine fans!"

"The food was AMAZING. We ordered the lamb and the seasoning was so fantastic that we sent our gratitute to the chef who was kind enough to come to our table and introduce herself. She has an interesting culinary background and seemingly natural knowledge of what turns taste-buds on. Thanks!"

"Birthday dinner was so enjoyable. My husband had the Domaine Salad, I had an onion, goat cheese pastry for appetizer. Both were great. I did have to take the anchovies off mine,just a bit too strong. I had the pork my husband had the hanger steak. We each had a glass of wine and dessert. The pecan pie cake was incredible. Even tho' i was't hungry I ate the whole thing!"

"The food and service were excellent. My husband and I haven't had a dinner that good in a long time. However, the tables are so close together it feels like you are dining with everyone else around you. This was our first "romantic" night out since the birth of our son nine months ago. Unfortunately, we couldn't hear each other over the conversations next to us. It would be great for small groups, though. I know they are opening a new location at Austin Landing so I hope there is a little more space between the tables there."
